But, which one did you get-show me a picture. If you can't find one over there, how can I help you find one if I don't know what it looks like! Will
  2. Michael, I thought I would polish the aluminum to add a bright bit to the lower part of the engine compartment. I also thought about chome plating the steeering rod, and the brackets for the steering insulator. Treating the aluminum with metal ready (which I did not do) is supposed to make the POR15 stick! There for a minute, I thought you were working on your Z again! Panchovisa, I will have to try some of that stuff-I have Mineral Spirits for that sort of thing-followed by laquer thinner-and you have given me an excuse to visit Bass Pro. Will

Are you an air cleaner fossicker? Here in woop woop we had several to choose from! if the beds dry at home, there is always the septic homeland to take a squiz at, but to give you good oil, I need to know what is "authentic" in the outback. Will

You still haven't said which one you are after! Which one are you after! Will
  5. Carl, please correct me, I would always prefer to have more info! What I didn't post was, I let the metal ready dry on the housing, and did not wipe it off as per the instructions. I let it dry because I knew it would be a week or so before I had everything ready to paint. http://www.por15.com/uploads/files/metal%20ready%20q%20and%20a%20sheet.pdf I am using laquer thinner to get rid of any oils I may have put on the zinc coating in handling. I think better advice would be leave the stock cam(don't forget changing the deck height will mean you have to add shims to keep the valves out of the pistons' way (n.s. w/280 valves), add the header and a larger exhaust, port and polish the head, port the intake manifold to match, and rebuild/rejet your carbs, and keep the car tuned. Lightening your flywheel makes for a car that is more difficult to drive on the street (Lowering the moment of inertia on the clutch drive does mean the engine can rev up faster, but it also makes it harder to drive smoothly because there isn't as much energy stored in then movement of a lighter flywheel-meaning the car is much easier to stall-especially in hills/mountains) Will
  7. Here is the Rack ready for paint. I cleaned it, taped off the lubricated parts(tiewraps are in the pictue) beadblasted the housing, and then treated the housing with metalready. I am going to clean out all of the old lubricant(to make sure any glass bead that may have gotten in the mechanism is gone) with mineral spirits. Then I will wipe down the housing with laquer thinner, tape up everything again, and paint(POR15) the housing. When the paint has dried, I will prelube the mechanism, replace the 6mm bolts with grease fittings, pump some grease through to make sure the openings are not blocked, install new bellows, and fill each side with grease at its minimum adjustment(so I don't have grease squirting all over when the steering wheel is turned lock to lock for the first time. When I install it, it will be acompanied by urethane! Will
  8. First and foremost buy a Factory Service Manual for the chassis you have-NOT a Chiltons/Haynes/Clymer, but a genuine Datsun/Nissan FSM. That said. The reverse lights are actuated by a switch on the tranny, should be the only electrical connections on the tranny-unless it is an auto and a very rare version with a lock-up torque converter. Speedo is mechanical, probably not hooked up, when you get it hooked up, if the speed is wrong, you need to change the drive gear-very easy, just usually very dirty! A new cable from VB or MSA is inexpensive-the grear(if you end up needing it) will have to come from the dealer, but again is not very expensive. For the lights, you have a wiring issue that could be simply a bad combination switch, or a hack job done by a PO. I would verify/replace the switch, then get the wiring diagram and verify it. If the harness is hacked up, replace it to avoid future problems, and to maintain the ability to use the FSM trouble shooting guide. Going through the archives here will allow you to find tach hookup info. Will

And here we have todays progress. First, I finished the modifications to one of the spring perches to make it fit on the coil over collar-didn't get to the other one-I must get some more bits for the lathe-yet another trip to Harbor Freight. Second, I started working on refinishing my wheels-the first one anyway. The gold is coming off, I haven't figured out what color I want yet-playing with the idea of just buffing out and polishing the whole thing, or painting the mesh to match the car. Third, I modified a set of turbo ZX wheel caps to fit my wheels, what do you guys think? With the polished lip it should look Zweet! Will PS, the sticker on the treaded collar was left in place just for Carl, it is a notification that "this product contains chemical known in the state of California to..."

Personally, the lack of interior and engine bay pictures do it for me! I guess the fact that the seller is asking that kind of money without fixing the clock, the fuel gauge, and giving the car a tuneup is just absolutely icing on the cake! Ooh, ooh, everything was done in '97the same time as the accident: "All of the rubber seals were replaced in 1997 (windows, doors, hatch, etc.), so this baby is air-tight. In 1996 when the engine was rebuilt, all hoses & belts were replaced as well as MANY other things such as bushings, struts, steering coupler, fuel pump..." Sounds like a clever way to hide a restoration to me. Vicky, who is to say she didn't get a blank radiator plate and punch it to match! Still a pretty car, but not in the right neighborhood... Will

You are on the right path! One or the both of them is not working, unless the lines are empty! Will
  12. I am in the process of sectioning my struts. I am actually setting up a set of struts with coilovers(using the original perches) to determine the correct ride height before I section a second set and move the original perches. I have everything off the car if you need measurements. Will

I have a used one off my '72 that is available. No leaks, but could use a good cleaning. Will
  14. Emma Samms maybe, a replica I already have-No Way! Will

Most people would be "uncomfortable" driving a car with such conditions, was the PO named Darwin? When you get through finding all of the problems left by the PO, you will probably have a very nice car. I think we all have had our share of suprises left by POs! Will
  16. I guess I stand corrected! Actually both of us are sick-We have been taking this back and forth for a month. The pediatrician says Thomas is just fine with out a steering wheel, but that he will most definitely outgrow that condition! I am going to the Dr. on Thursday to find out what mix of octane booster I need, and to get my fluids checked. Funny, I don't have that steering wheel, and though I am sick, I don't feel undefined and useless- just tired and cranky-course, I guess missing a steeringwheel affects different people differently! Will
  17. Well, at least Vicky has't chimed in with a snail trail story... Will
  18. I guess the seller thinks any Datusn without this steering wheel is undefined and useless! "A great looking item to add some definition and usefulness to your Datsun." Reminds me of a quote from Good Morning Vietmen about Richard Nixon's testicles. Don't ask, I have no idea-I am home with the boy sick again... Will
  19. Kmack, I missed this, but do you still need the rest of the article? Will
  20. One thing about the cars in Ferris Buelers day off, When Cameron stomps the hood, just before the car goes out the window, it dents-definitely NOT fiberglass in that shot! Don't forget the one John Candy drove blindfolded with Emma Samms squeezing his "knee"! Will
  21. Here are some pictures of the factory downpipe and the first bend in the exhaust pipe. Will

But Carl, What(or who) are you driving? Now Sema images are in my head-sooooo Muuuuch better! Will
  25. About the turbo or wastegate, See the post above this one! I probably do have a spare down pipe too. Mock up what will fit, then see if what you have is close. Then wory about what to do next. Will
