My info came from explicit instructions on how to tow my first Z when I bought it, and reading through the owners manual-it could be wrong, I did know a lot less about Zs than I do now, and I have never questioned that specific info, so I have never researched it to find out different. I do know that in towing 35 Zcars over 7,000 miles, I have never damaged a transmission from towing with the rear wheels on the ground-but Towing with out disconnecting the drive shaft could have been just as effective. Who cares, you've got #26 and #27! Hot Japanese twins in various stages of undress! Will
  3. The internals do not have to be swapped, but changing them out will give higher compression. Will

My understanding, from a long time Datsun mechanic is that towing a Z with the drive shaft in it should be done for less than a few miles-the Owners Manual also says this. My assumption is that the fluid pump is driven off the clutch disk, with it disengaged, the pump no pump! Will

I had to chain the SOB too! My Buddy can back anything, anywhere within inches, no matter what the equipment. He reminds me of my lack of skill all of the time, I remind him if he could do the same thing going forward he would really have something(6 car accidents-all his fault-the smugg bastard!) Will

I just recieved the "Buy it Now" emblems. They were shipped from the right Zipcode on September 2nd. They were from an order filled by Nissan on 5/21/03. No invoice, a handwritten note on the outside of the box with weight and contents-does not look like Chloes writing. Nothng new on Ebay, Will

Towing with the wheels off the ground is not just for automatics, In the manual, if the engine isn't driving the mechanism, lubricant does not flow through the transmission, and you will wear things pretty quick with no lubrication! I always put the car front first in the towdolly, just take a coathanger and a couple of wrenches(an adj. and a socket set), disconect the driveshaft at the rear (4 nuts, bolts, and washers-don't lose them) and use the coat hanger to wire the drive shaft to , strap in the wheels and head out! You can disconnect the drive shaft at the front as well, but then you have to secure the shaft so it can still spin, and remember to add fluid when you get home-some will leak out when the driveshaft is taken out of the transmission! Michael, when you get ready to back that thing up, use something to secure the two parts of the tow dolly so that the pivot will not pivot. Not everything is Rocket Science! Go low tech, a couple of bolts, heavy nails, or a tow chain would probably do the trick! You aren't backing from Texas to Minnesota! Will

Yea Baby! Move them over, and get that car on the road! Also, post a big picture of your avitar in your gallery. Will
  9. The turbo block is the same as the na block, the pistons, rings, head, and oil pump are different. You have everything you need, and some parts you don't. Use the turbo block and head with your 240 intake and carbs-rejet as necessary. With out the turbo, and even with-if you know that there is room between the floor and idle- the T-5 is heavy and not necessary, the other 5 speed is probably shifts much smoother. Will

I would leave now, but I would imagine someone would still beat me to pick them up! (17 hour drive-if the Z was done, I would have left half and hour ago!) Will
  11. I hate to see Gary go, but I respect his choice-even though I don't agree with it. He contributed a great wealth of information, shared his views freely, and most noteably stood by his beliefs. I don't knock a man for doing what he believes is right when it doesn't take anything but pride away from me. I Admire the strength of his convictions but wonder about the differences between his value of this site and mine, we must be in different places, not better or worse, just different. Will
  12. I've always taken off the whole rail, checked the injectors, replaced the hoses(split carefuilly with an exacto knife), and put it back. Replaciing all of the hoses means not having to revisit the area again when the next one opens up, and affords the opportunity to examine/clean the whole assembly-keeping tabs on everyhting means a repair can be planed at your convenience, and not ruin a pleasure trip. Isuzu NPR, Mitsubishi Conquest (or GM equivalent), Ford Power Stroke, Audi, Ford Probe, and more. I am going to use several smaller cores on the same plenum, with a HO fan pulling air through. AutoSpeed did an article on flow rates through about 15 yard pulls to find out what was the best. I can probably find and email that article if you are interested. Will

Rick, You got it! But, Who is Elvis? Oh, yea, he is the guy that left the building... Just Kidding, but we were exposed to his acting, not just his music... Will
  17. Replacing an injector hose is a true pain in the butt, but it can be done. It just takes three serveings of your most powerful cuss words, 10 gallons of sweat, and a few busted nuckels-unless you go ahead and replace all 6, plus the rest of the hoses on the fuel rail. WIll

I got a tracking number from payapl today, still no word from MWZ, and USPS says: "Current Status You entered 0180 5213 9073 4578 4096 The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on September 02, 2004 to expect your package for mailing. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later." I guess that means it will ship out tomorrow. If I had only made that 11th phone call, I would have received everyhting with in a couple of days. Having said all of that, I still hope Chloe is doing well, and recovering from whatever is going on. Will

  21. I bought a ton of the ultrabtrite white leds and resistors from them to rework the dash lights in my '72. Good company! Will

TIR has been the subject of many threads in the archives-they do not seem to understand what "original" means-in addition to trying to sell pieces at overly inflated prices. I bought the Zedd Findings "designed to replicate the original floor of the 240Z. All bends, undulations, holes, and forms have been duplicated" floor set, and was impressed. Mr. Osborne does have a handle on what original means, as well as what it doesn't, and has expressed his willingness to help those of us that want "original" parts, or parts clearly identified as patterned after original parts. A mas air sensor generally uses some form a resistance measure of a heated wire, I am going to use a map (manifold absolute pressure) sensor with GM engine management-and It isn't too far from working right, now! I will outline the whole thing in a technical article when it is proven in the car. It is just getting to the tune it, tune it, and tune it soime more stage-while sitting (roughed in-ugly spagetti accident looking mess) in a parts car. I hope to be spending more time on it in about 2-3 weeks-after the '72 has been undercoated (inside and out), and the bodywork is done. Will

I will map the whole thing out when I get it working! It is going to be on the '72(83 turbo engine). Will
