  1. What I meant to say is I believe that the pair Eric had (which were on consignment)are now living with me! Here are the emails he and I exchanged before the owner offered them for sale himself, and I bought them-for less than the highest reported bid, including shipping. I did not know until after I agreed to buy them that they were the same ones-I am not sure why they are still listed, unless the seller didn't tell eric they were gone, or I was fed a line by the seller. Regardless, I have a pair of NOS Headlight covers, and the boxes that are in the link above. Will Dear Zparts.com I am interested in your NOS OEM 240Z headlight covers. Will $550 buy them including shipping? William Stokes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- William, At present, there are 4 Z car owners in 4 different countries trying to out bid each other on the covers. Highest offer so far is $750. + shipping. However, the consignment seller just told me yesterday that he saw a specialty Z car website based out of Japan that has a new set for sale at $1000. so he wants to wait a bit longer before accepting highest bid on set that he has consigned for sale at ZPARTS.COM. Eric Neyerlin - owner of ZPARTS.COM ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eric, Thank you for the reply. It was, and is, not my intention to be insulting. However, your blurb is not in your designated consignment area or labeled as a consignment, and is clearly marked $600 with serious offers considered. My intention was to conform to what I understood to be your conveyance. I do appologize. William Stokes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- William No apology expected nor offense taken. When covers were first consigned with me for sale, I had no idea that these were so terribly collectable nor that buyers would be inclined to want to bid up from the original $600. However, my obligation to the seller of the covers is to cash him out at the highest amount possible. Good point about them not being advertised as being "consigned parts" for sale. I may move the ad over to the "Consigned For Sale" parts section due to your observation. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Sorry I was not able to assist you with your interest. Perhaps I can help you with some other parts needs in the future. Eric Neyerlin - owner of ZPARTS.COM

Chris, If I didn't have a time crunch for the '72, I'd pack up the TIG, the Plasma Cutter, and head your way for the weekend! Maybe I'll just have to settle for sending you something else-sounds like you already have most of the special sheet metal, I have a few parts car that can be donors if you need other sections-10min with the plasma cutter... Will
  3. Uh, I don't think he has any any more... I bought these from the owner who asked Eric to take them on consignment. Will BTW, The kit will come witha seal to close the back of the scoop to the headlight-blocking all of the trash and moisture from getting in-hopefully.
  4. GregP, I know there are some in the Galleries, but I will take some pictures tonight and post them as well. Will

Mike, I don't think It is our responsibility to to find the answers either, but if they ain't tellliin' and I want to know, and the Enguirer doesn't think the story will improve circulation, that just leaves me to satisfy my curiosity about what happened to some one as likeable as Chloe. When something matters, people spend time and energy on it, when it doesen't, people talk more passionately about spending time and energy on it, but it still falls throught the cracks Will
  7. Ed, 1) I am going to make a seal for each of the openings-no opening will be left open! 2) The gnose covers are different to the best of my "not-firsthand" knowledge! Moyest, I am examining making a roller die to make a strip with the correct relief. As MikeW pointed out on another thread, the ends will have to be split to wrap around. Will
  8. Hopefuly adding seals at every contact point, and one for the headlight opening will take care of keeping the inside clean and dry. Will
  9. I don't expect this to be easy, if it were, others would have done it before the OEM parts got in the $750 stratophere. For the trim rings, I have press formed thin stainless with good results, the OEM pieces were made in two parts and then welded-I think that is the easiest way to do it in stainless. I have TIG. Mig, and oxy/acet, so I don't think putting them together will be a huge problem. They could also be made with one stamping of 1001 aluminum and then chrome plated so noone could tell the difference between them and the early covers(mine are chrome plated) once they were installed. I would prefer the stainless to aluminum and aluminum to the original steel. But when I get this going, what I will probably do is send a set to a several of the interested long term active members who have the original parts to compare them to for a month long, all weather, evaluation (and purchase if they measure up) and critque before I offer them for sale, that way I will know (and so will eveyone else) just how they rate. I don't expect to sell thousands of these, but I do expext a couple hundred or so through time. Once the molds and dies are made, even a limited "garage" run would be possable to enable quick fixes before a show. I will put seals and pads on every surface and attatchment point, and anneal the covers after the holes are drilled to keep the internal stresses to a minimum, and the quality of seal (and fit)to a maximum. I want it right if I am going to put the time, effort, and money into this. Any more thoughts on what to improve are welcome, I want to do this once, and do it right! Will
  10. Thanks Carl, I looked, but did not find! Counting and deep breaths have not worked for me. Will
  11. MikeW, I am going to the trouble of making a couple of sets anyway for me(I have made plexiglass molds before), so adding some effort, machinery, and using higher wear materials for the molds will make the endeavor much more expensive, but I have already sprung for a NOS set to model from(not cheep by any means), and if I can sell 50 sets, at around $200(CZC club members only) I should break even. I will use eBay like you did to sell to non-members for what the market will spend. I expect to sell more than 50 sets, and even sell upgrade/replacement parts. Will If those of you that have lived with these a while have any suggestions for a better design without changing the appearance, I welcome them. Will

You would think that, in a disaster of that magnatude, everyone would pull together and get the job done, but some people have so much more of the selfish gene, they can't get enough help, so thay take it at everone elses expense. Not the kind of people you want as neighbors-and truthfully, neighter do they. Glad you and yours spared to the extent you were! Will
  13. Gary, after my recent experience with my Sawzall, I can completely understand, you bought it to use, and letting someone else take your use out of it is "thoroughly aggrivating(siad with a cartoon voice whilst holding an ACME disintegrator ray gun, and wearing a floor brush on your head-all too keep you from going off with both barrels on the ragafraggit, moringgrattit, mongrill wascally rabbit)" Will
  14. I bought a NOS set of the JDM headlight covers with the intention creating faithful reproductions with a few invisible upgrades(headlight seals-true stainless steel trim, available replacement parts...) I will not be starting this until after the '72 is on the street. I will be making at least a couple of sets as replacements for mine-just in case. My intent is to make them visually indistinguishable from, and interchangeable with the OEM part. On a beautiful day they would be indistinguishable, but they would be clearly superior after rain or a sudden weather change. Those of you who have experience with them know what I mean. I will also make the seals available to those who already have the JDM parts. Who would be interested in a pair at around $200 complete? (lenses, hardware, and rings-Instructions would be in english, but a copy of the original Japanese will be available upon request! This is not yet an offer, only a little research that may well lead to one. Will
  15. My good friend broke the pin lose today! More heat, more hammers! he cut one of the mushrooms off and all that is left to do is find an appropriately sized drift-I am just not as good with the heat wrench! I still will have to get another useable pin, so the puller will be put together. Will

I am going to cut the pin in two places tomorrow, and hopefully use my shop press to remove what will be the center section. If not I will be setting up a similar tool to pull one from a 280Z parts car. If all goes well, then I will strip and paint the pieces over the next several days, and get the new urethane in place shortly thereafter. Will

  18. What makes you love the car? Leave the generalities at home, type the specifics-yes, I know, itr was hard for me too! Will
  19. What like beating the crap out of it on both ends with two different hammers! Oh, wait, that was me... I did work at Western Auto the summer after High School. and every time I had a problem, the mechanics answer was always "Get a bigger hammer." I guess I took his words to heart! Will

I stand corrected! -Just look at me pounding a threaded rod into two mushroomed ends-where is the wisdom in that-it is with you, getting the right tool for the job! Carl, I found the perfect tickle to your funny bone, but I can't seem to get it posted-but be warned, it is lurking out there waiting! Will

It has been a week since the "buy it now", no emails, or parts-not that I would expect them this soon...anymore. Ebay auction # 7915217680 Will
  23. Anybody knows what happens when you loan out tools to someone for the first and last time? Thats right they come back with all of the blades used and not replaced, or worse yet, broken. I had loaned m sawzall to a neighbor to cut off three pieces of 1" pipe. I had a card of 10 6" Dewalt bi-metal blades, and several other mixed cut blades. I got everything I lent him back, but every blade in the box has no teeth in the cutting section of the blade. Not a word about it when he gave the saw back. Needless to say, I have to hitup Lowes for some more blades tomorrow morning to attempt the cuts on the pin. Dave, That is pretty much what I invisioned, nice tool. I was thinking of adapting one of my spring compressors to the same job-all It would take is a tube, a thick washer and a union threaded appropriately-maybe a hole and pin for the union end of the spring compressor-and oh yes, the bearing-I was going to replace mine anyway... If I didn't have everything right at hand, I would just buy from you-it isn't like I have enough to do with out adding more! Will
  24. When I finish the '72 Hagarty will be covering it-depending on their deffinition of a garage. Will
