That is a good one Vicky! Will

Bill, That was, in a round about way, a compliment! I amm headed to work on the Z, I will check the parts for you, and pm tonight. Will
  3. The song says" too much passion is never enough" Z = passion! Get more Zs, that way if something ever happens to one you have no risk of "withdrawl" we had a good thread on the effects of going Z-less a while back, and annother on the effects of being infected with Z-itus. The subject of this thread is really the cause of Z-itus, but hey, sounds like you already have it! Me too! Will
  4. Ditto, Gary, if you wouldn't mind posting a picture ot two,(probably a good tech article candidate). I have no aversion to welding a rod to the spindle pin to get the lovely thing out. I can cut off the mushrooms from both ends and have a nice, straight section of pin to pull out. I will take some pictures of why not to do what to post to this thread tonight-if I can edit the original post, I will put them there. Will
  5. What Carl said! I had a perfectly good '73, and chose to pass it along to someone who would treasure it so that I could rescue the '72 that I am just getting started on. One less sacrifice to the rust God, one more beautiful car for the world! I have similar taste to Kennys. I did a 280ZX t-top to keep the "convertable" in the right lineage, and to have a little more longevity to the top. Will

Bill, Remember anything stupid you do that doesn't kill you makes you wiser-I guess you may pass the rest of us in a few more months! Will

He shows the folly of his age by highlighting the wisdom of ours-the little rapscallion! Will

Like Ed said, sheck the blower box, the seals are most likely gone, and the air is going around what shoud be directing it through! Will
  9. I looked at cutting the pin at the open hinge points, But I am not confident I could cut it stright enough with the sawzall to not hurt either of the pieces. I had considered making a screw based puller and welding the rod to the pin, but I had the idea, and not the materials... I probably could cut the pin, and I do have a healthy shop press. I am working on the car all day tomorrow, I will give it a shot. Will
  10. I ordered it from Kmack (member here) and while it is similar to an engine stand, it is taller, and made out of heavier materials than the two I have from Harbor Freight. I could not have made it for what I paid for it in terms of time or materials. Ken made t to work with several Datsuns with only some modifications to the body mounts. I have several cars that will be using it after the '72 is back on her "feet" I am almost through adapting it so that I can roll the whole thing loaded with a body on a trailer and take it to be media blasted or shot with urethane bedliner. Another thought I have had is: My garage it too narrow to paint in, but if I motorize the rotissie, I can push th car to one side to where it will just clear the wall, and have plenty of room to paint the car top and bottom, also turning it upside down will keep the dust from settling on the hood and roof and allow me to paint the car more comfortably. I would have to work out some stand-offs to allow me to paint the rear bumper area that is covered by the rear mount. There is a Harbor Freight here in town, and buying a 2000lb electric cilynder winch to sacrifice for the project is not beneath me! Will
  11. Carl, Now you tell me-the worst part is now, I remember the thread, I had been looking at it for pointers as I have never replaced the bushings before! I did take out the keeper bolt before hammering away, but both ends are now threaded mushrooms thought I probably could cut off thedamaged part and still manage to keep 10-12mm of threads. If that doesn't work, the only thing I think I can do is to sacrifice the part that is the same only upside down between the sides and shares with all S-30s to get the pin out and reuse the 240 bearing and strut portion, adding the pin and cut portion from a 280Z. The other side came out with a few taps, and a pair of vice grips on the nut-not even a real challenge! Maybe I should arrange to borrow one of those jewels before I get the spare to take parts from. Who ever has it, if I may borrow it, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity-I will hunt down the thread and ask a little more appropriately. Will
  12. I pulled the suspension off the '72 last week, and went about takeing everything apart for cleaning up, painting and replacing the bushings. I had three corners done, and when I got to the lower pivot on the DS rear(links the strut carrier to the lower suspension member), the MFSOB shaft will not come out. I have tried liquid solvent over night, a two lb hammer(that shaft sure is maleable) a 4lb hammer (did I mention distorting the shaft?), massive doses of oxy/acet, and welding up a jig to use a 4lb slide hammer on the (at one time) still pristine end. The shaft has not moved at all, needless to say, it is trash now, but I would still like to use the pieces from that corner instead of pulling one from a parts car. If nobody has any suggestions, I will pull another corner next weekend. Thanks for any and all suggestions! Will
  13. Ok, lets see if we can get this thread rolling again! There once was a Z from Nantucket, The owner drained her oil in a bucket, He said with a grin, getting from under her again, If my Z had a__________________ I would __________________________ it! Maybe that isn't what you had in mind TomoHawk, but I just had a wild hair (one of the few i have left!!) Seriously, all of you, what makes you appreciate spending time, money, and energy on your Z, and not somewhere else? Will PS, I used my avitar for the first picture!
  14. Thanks Art btw great article! Thanks Carl, I couldn't get around on the site(navigation wasn't effective) to find it! Will

Charley followed the George Jones school of appearances! I guess Mike must have really done something with his Rocket Science to keep me from haunting his car! Will
  16. There was a utility in the Downloads section of this site for accomplishing the same thing Will

Mike, You really need to spend some time with your Z! I think the withdrawl(that's a southern man discriptive) is doing more to you than Charles will do to me-at least I hope! If I get oblitherated, I am going to haunt your Z! (just like Private Malone) Will

When it gets through with FLA, it looks as though it is comming to visit me! I Sent the Wife and TBA off for the weekend, so It is just me, the cat, and the BFT! The Zs are in the garages, the SPl is on the far end of the house, tripple tarped and wrapped in an elastic truck bed net. I am glad I took all of the Pines down last year, all that are left are the Oaks. Will
  19. The Airdam at the start of this postlooks like it was made for another car, and just happened to fit, not like it was intended to add to and blend with a Z-too obviously an addon to look right, but if making the parts you add stand out is what you want, that spoiler does it with a vengance! I like some of the others, my '73 had one with brake ducts, it worked with the car, and added to, instead of detracting from, the factory styling. My '72 is getting a ducted BRE spook spoiler. Will

As I get my car back together, I will be taking pictures and video of that very thing, and writing it up. Actually I have an atricle on carpeting written, but without the pictures, it needs another 5,000 words... Will Check Amazon for the books on the available used listing. I have bought one of those referenced, it is a good book, has some good ideas, but some are not practical in your situation. Buying a $1,000 sewing machine, a $200 stapeler, and $150 worth of shears, needles, and $300 in materials puts you in the same ball park you are trying to stay out of. If you don't take the reccomended equipment to heart, but use the basic info for ideas, the book is full of them! Will
  21. Get with Kmack-I bought a rotisserie from him, VERY reasonable, well made, and best of all it works-see my avitar! Will

You don't say-what a suprise! I would almost say that explains alot, but it really doesn't even get close! Will
  23. I am doing the same conversion, and I have all of the parts except the flex lines(I want Braided Stainless, and have not taken the time to search the arcive or compare the size/thread of the fittings to be sure of what I need.) I have the suspension off the car, and can put the pieces together for measurements if you need them- my only worry is the fit of the Aluminum slot mags, the newer brake parts may take up more space than the wheels will allow-Ed verified that his fit, but I am using the vented rotor setup which is wider-though I am not certian relative to where. Some of the sites I visited mentioned the need to machine a wee bit off the rotor to decrease its diameter for wheel clearance. I found the cores for the rotors on car-parts.com for $30 a pair-the yard was local, so I had no shipping charges, the spacers came from JSK innovations, and were $65 a pair if memory serves. Will
