  1. This car is a quick turn-it has NOT spent most of its life in a garage with a cover-63K, Esprist's observations and peeled chrome on the DS door panel and the Dash 1/2 cap clinches it-no need for a continuously garaged and collector taken care of car too have a dash cap. Car is a nice example of a car that has been daily driven at some point and cleaned up. I would definitely want to go over it in person. too many things not up to par for a collector car-unless it was long ago. Listed at more than twice what I would value it at.
  2. And here it is.... http://www.gallerycars.us/2010/01/toyota-2000gt-replica-based-on-nissan.html

This car has had the windshield and window frames lowered, and the roof line bent to follow the front down? What was done is certainly interesting, and actually cutting a four inch(?) section horizontal section and leaning back the windshileld(it being cut to fit) would be a serious undertaking (not that this wasn't) would result in a better looking car-though filling the gap between the cowl and the windshield would go a long way in cleaning it up. Some one spent some time and energy for a dramatic result! Doing it this way did lower the roofline while still keeping all of the ques in the right location and avoid moving/changing all of the corners-looks like the quickest way to do it-A for effort! Gotta say the early console customization is pretty cool-fitting a Carputer?
  4. a '73 240Z boot will not fit a late '73 260-280('74-78 model year console), the opening is smaller on the earlier console. Sounds like you ordered based on some misinformation-what part number did you get?

This car is something....far to busy for my tastes, though I would give it a go round if I got to see it in person. 3000 miles and already tired of it-One oil change and it isn't the owners dream any more...I have absolutely no doubt that the seller is right when he states "NO OTHER LIKE IT AND THEY NEVER WILL BE", though I think the Primadonna Z is ten times the car and so much better looking.
  6. Arne, Thanks for making the location point, I knew I could count on you-and for posting your take-if the newby notices all complete member profiles list location...to tie in to your point.
  7. Your answer makes sense except for the fact I did ask for each persons threshold, not an answer from the collective.... "I dont think we" should be something to the effect of "For me, if the car has Ansen wheels, a sunroof, a bad gas door knob, and a few other small issues, I'll bring her home. But if the car has a sewn leather dash cover, pinstripes, and an engine transplant I won't even walk next door to see it-much less get parts for it through ZPS..." The point here is what is your threshold...Let others tell their own story... FYI...this seems to be almost exactly the same posting progression as the thread I started on what makes the Z a classic shortly after I joined the club-then it was Carl I had to get into the "Me" not "We" mode...
  8. For a newby that equation is: Infinite + ? + ? < ? + ? +? if ?=x then we may postulate that an Infinite numerical value + 2X will always > 3X What I wanted to do here was give examples that the? were not all equivalent, and that what understand/rationalize changes with the accumulation of experience.

Most kit cars use a chassis from a donor car-and get titled with the vin on that chassis. Insurance as a road car would be a bear-easy to get by not saying anything about the chassis, but make a claim, and I would bet unless it was registered as experimental, the insurance company would be tough to get anything from.
  10. hls30.com posted a post in a topic in Open Discussions
That would require a visit and a drive in a completed one... Titling it-much less importing and insuring it-could be a real issue...Mechanical parts may fit, but interior looks like it would be a challenge to put back in-fiberglass has to have a thicker cross section to have the strength of steel, and that extra bult has to go somewhere...The light coming through the bulk of the firewall tray hints the material is pretty thin there... Not to steal the thread, about a month. I'll be putting up a website with all the before and after details...
  12. I won't have my 240Z there, but I am aiming to have my 300Z convertible there-I think I was one of the first registered...gotta finish Larrys car and get on mine! Chris-you aiming for two bottles of rum this year?

Don't get too caught up in that line of thinking, every year is special for different reasons. From a daily driver and stock maintenance standpoint, '72 would be the best because most of the parts that are still available through Nissan were proper on a '72, and it has performance carbs-unlike the emmissions queens tacked to the '73 models. If you need a part for an earlier car, Nissan will have one that will work, but not necessarily the version that originally came on the car. But, the earlier cars were lighter-meaning higher performance, but less accident protection... If you find one that runs well-in good shape at a good price, don't worry about the year, Just check her over thoroughly(with an experienced Z nut), with an eye out for collision, rust and electrical damage, and take the plunge!

loooooootsa work that one, I'd check the tramming to see if the chassis is misaligned from the damage, if not, I would replace the roof and the inner and outer quarter panel. Good bit of money to have someone do. What is the Vin on the car? It could be fixed with enough time, skill, or money. PS-I did tell everyone I have been busy with Larrys car...
  15. Similar, but not the same one, but WingoZ is the ebay seller of that one, and he has the same thing in our classifieds. The one RV6aflyer is looking for is actually a JDM Nissan part(sold through Nissan overseas), the one WingoZ has for sale is a JDM piece for a Nissan, but not a genuine Nissan part. Will
  16. They come up every so often.... but as simple as that one is, fabbing one up would be an afternoons work, and less expensive than shipping...
  17. Guys-use specifics-this thread gets its meaning from details, not generalities-address the Newby that does not know what repairs cost in terms of time energy and money! All the Newby knows is the car was advertised as "Rust Free-ready to drive-except it does not run." This is more of a tell an excited newby what to look for and avoid-he wants a Z, knows nothing except that he wants a Z, and has no clue what to walk away from...
  18. Wait a minute...there is a reason Bruce works at ZTherapy and not the Laugh Factory...OK, more than one... Will
  19. Stephen! Put in a few specifics-for those newbies that are not up to speed with budget killers! They need to know what to look past, and what to walk(RUN) past!
  20. What damage would make a reasonable person let a Z become a sacrifice to the universe-or Rust diety? What does it take: Serious unibody body damage, Rusted away floors and framerails, the ability to get volume discounts on the sheer amount of filler needed for the car(over and above/instead of metal work). What collection of damage is it that would make those of you that aren't afraid of some rust, bumps, and panel misalignment walk away from a Z project? Post pictures if you have them!

Was the float special? You have something with a serious "Cool factor" from back in the day, why not have Z Therapy rebuild your original carb and keep the vintage mod? PS, have you got any pictures posted of the setup? We need a thread of all of the aftermarket turbo kits(and original instructions from back in the day)-I have one of the early efi turbo kits in storage-( http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22762&highlight=turbo+kit&page=2 ) see post 29 for a picture Will

Chris, The point here is you shouldn't have had to ask-and I know that. I have dropped the ball on several people-and though that was genuinely not my intention, it still happened because I let it. Your binder is just how I received it-the pages are in the same order, a few might be slightly moved around in their page protectors, but that would be all. I'll send it to the address you indicated on the note unless you tell me otherwise-my Carrier usually stops by here around 2pmish EST-I'll print the postage around 1ish, and PM you my number just in case..

Yair Rick! Thanks for the invite-I don't have any experience in messing with a chook shute you bloody bastard, but, I'll giv'er a go! What about a trip to Columbus? I sent my Mate Clif the pics of the memorial and I'll give him a swift kick in the pants for dropping the ball-he has been doing the weekend warrior bit there for the past two years...sometimes he is a usefull as an ashtray on a motorbike.... I' know a Shiela(Delta Flight Attendant-blond hair, blue eyes, svelt-might give you an intro-if your heart could take it-as long as she who must be obeyed has your rope short!)who I'll ask to check into it...

I can do that-but you will need to get them re-keyed...
