  1. I bet He would have gotten a kick out of this thread after being in one of my highschool favorites, Death Race 2000... Will
  2. Do'oh! To the Victor went the spoils:beer:...nothing left but the car cover;)! Will

Welcome to the Datsun/Nissan community! There is a wealth of information in the threads here, and in the members! I think you probably bought the best of the 350Z models-the secret one! This site is more aimed at those that keep their cars essentially stock with only lite modifications. For the Serious Mods, you will probably find more info on HybridZ.org-though we share several valuable and knowledgeable members. Have a gander through the archives on both sites and you will find tons of information, after getting up to speed, ask about the finer points to be sure you get the changes and corrections, and you should have everything you need for your car except tools, time, and help, and usually joining a local club(Houston has a good one), and using the classified ebay, and having a tech party will get most of them for you too! You may see the Z as Art, but remember, when new "it's first solid food was a Porsche 911"! Will
  4. Stephen, Ironicly your comment brings a different light to the franchise: Who killed Bill. Certianly a more recent part... Will
  5. I have to say, Alan, this last point I understand, and perhaps a vendor sponsorship would be a welcome addition to both parties. I agree the vintage nature of the Datsun related items they are selling and the strong tie-in with the demographics of this site would make a for a valuable relationship. Maybe a Vendor account would be something they had not thought of, instead of being seen as something they deem as unnecessary. Will
  6. Alan, I see your point. I do see some differences between this situation and the one you are concerned with. 1) The car covers sold by MSA are not the same as those sold by BRE-meaning someone in the market for a BRE car cover would not accept a fitted non-BRE car cover as a substitute. I would not. What this means is the market for a BRE car cover is not the market for a fitted non BRE car cover, meaning in this specific instance BRE is NOT competing for the customers of the MSA covers. Customers for a BRE cover would not buy a MSA cover anyway-unless MSA starts selling BRE covers. 2) No tangeable benefit to the poster. I get nothing from sales from BRE or MSA. 3) IF MSA gets something "Way Cool" or "Must Have" or "WOW, you need to know about this" I would post about it too. I would treat vendors the same in the same circumstance. I do not know the vendor agreement Mike worked out with his supporting vendors, if what I have posted is contrary to its terms, of course I will delete the thread, and apologize to MSA for the thread. Will
  7. Alan, I put it in the history forum. I am not associated with BRE, and get nothing for posting it, and they had nothing to do with it. There were a healthy number of members expressed an interest in these when they came available, so I posted that what was once available (the History tie-in) is again. I can see your point about vendor involvement, and I will look into moving the notice to the chit chat forum. Will Done!
  8. Why tease your Z like that, Don't you know a 240Zs first solid food was a Porsche 911! Atleast now she will get some proper covers! Will
  9. I heard my personal favorite at Amelia Island lingering around Carls Rally car. Two older ladies walked up, one knew exactly what the car was and proceeded to tell the other all about her exploits in the passenger seat/hatch area of a very similar 240Z...obviously someone-er, the the car made an impression, her memory was from her last year of graduate school in 1970! I mounted a new remote controlled sterio under the drivers seat- changing cds is a little exciting, but with the remote(and a piece of clear tubing placed with one end on the IR receiver of the head unit and the other just inside the center vent(everything else out of sight), the only give aways are great sound and a remote in the console. 11. We knew it was going to happen, Carl Beck has been pushing for it for at least two years, and many others have joined his crusade! Finally, after untold drama, several attempts, and a great many QC checks, BRE has rereleased the BRE Z and 510 covers, and made an email pinup model out of MikeB-and his Z! More info here! BRE Newsletter Title Block BRE Datsun Issue: #013 June 1, 2009 Main_image_car_cover William, Timing is everything they say. The highly requested BRE Car Covers arrived today, just 30 hours before we leave for the Baja 500 and 24 hour of Le Mans races. Orders placed by 8pm PDT Tue will ship out before we leave. Orders received after that will ship when we return on June 16th (more info on the covers below).
  12. 1973/74 am/fm and blue tooth...-if you can find a blue tooth RF adaptor you might get close to what you are after. I would simply install an aftermarket amp that has the appropriate plugin/adaptor, and wire it up as a separate unit sharing speakers and power leads on a switch(power and speakers on the same rotary switch-different poles to keep from hurting anything with no load on it). Will
  13. I have that too, but from TexasZ(I think), and while it does have some cool stuff, I don't remember an index of articles or ads... Will

    1) I doubt you will find a single vendor to buy everything from, the '72 console is NLA, and you probably won't find a vendor with any new ones, if you do, they won't have a new ashtray cover for the new console, and I know of only one vendor who has new fuse box covers(and he knows he is the only one). There are a few items enthusaists hoard, and they are damn near unobtanium-no matter who the vendor. MSA/Black Dragon have most of what you will need, though you can find some of it less expensively elsewhere. Your best bet is to do just what you did, and lose the expectation to get everything from a single vendor. 2) Ebay is a great source for the original Datsun/Nissan Factory Service Manuals, new ones can be had almost any day of the week for a little less than $100 shipped, if you are patient, you can pick up a great one for $25-$40 or so. You also might want to pick this up: Wick Humble, How TO Restore your Z CAR. Least expensive way to buy it I have found. 3) There are ignition lock/key sets that are compatable on ebay-once in place, almost no one will know the difference-one guy in (Malasia?) sells them(PM me for the seller) and the rest of the sellers buy his, paint them black, call them original and ask $100 or more for them...they are not originial, but when you see a pretty new ign switch and key, and it fits like it was made for the car, who will question it? Almost no one. You could also find a really good lock smith and have yours rebuilt-I think we have a memeber here who might well help you with that. Will

I have some digging to do to free the roll of mesh. It looks fine enough to be of use, and I will pull it out later today. I am going to round up the parts for the water filter before I blast wed/thurs to see just how well it works-a $2 pickle bucket from Firehouse subs will be the first part, and I'll pick it up at lunch shortly! I am thinking a head with several small holes will allow more media capturing than a head with one big hole, so I am going to drill a pvc cap for a head, and give it a test against an open PVC pipe. Maybe I have too big a hole in my own head... Will

Ron, I thought of using the water filter, but dropped it when I realized I had an old shopvac. With your pictures, I will add that to the mix-I would just as soon not have dust everywhere and not have the ultimate need to buy a new shop vac! Thanks! Will
  17. I know I have seen an index of most of the 240Z print ads/aarticles from magazines. I believe it was on a website, but I haven't been able to locate it. I am looking for several specific ads, and not wanting to take the shotgun approach to buying vintage magazines until absolutely necessary, I am hoping for some help. I have both versions of the Hi-Tech dvds, ""Z" Anthology". and "Z/ZX Ads rom the Beginning", and neither nor both contains all of the ads- I have both the Brooklands Datsun 240z & 260z, and Datsun 240Z &260Z Gold Pportfolio, the Car and Driver On Datsun Z, 1600 & 2000, the Haynes Super Profile, and the Marque Classizc Series Datsun/Nissan Z Cars 1970-2005. I also have one other compilation of articles-A Road & Track title I believe that I have loaned out. Point is, my collection is missing some ads and articles, has anyone seen or compiled an index? Will PS I though this would go in the publications forum, but ther are only three forums there(two of which should probably be combined) for recent/current magazines.
  18. I have had that all worked out in my head for my car-keep the chips at bay... Looks as good in day light as it did in Synapse glow(or fog as it may be)!! Will

I had another thought, but it may well not pan out. I have a roll of cling wrap that I wrap my extra engines in after cosmoline and before storage, maybe a layer of it on the glass would do the trick-lots of static, but maybe a squirt of fabric softener will take car of that! Will

This mesh idea sounds good. I have some seriously fine Stainless mesh I bought for filtering my parts washing fluid. I'll see if it will work for this, if so, I bought the minimum purchase, and there should be enough for three or four sets... I have bead in my cabinet now and planned to strip the paint off several Series 1 steering wheels mid week, if the mesh looks appropriate, I will try it on the clear parts of my viewing area, and post how it does. I'll build a frame of thin wood molding, cover it with the mesh(speaker grill of sorts), glue on some small rare earth magnets, and see what she'll do! WIll
  21. I have had three beers in my life-all different-and was so impressed by their acquired taste that it took me years to try again...though it has been 10 years since my last. I passed 21 more than 21 years ago... Everything I listed is root beer! Will
  22. Come on Bruce the last time you thought you were wrong, you were mistaken.... Will
  23. Heinzelmännchen, Old Keg, Black Ribbon Brewer's Reserve, Weeping Raddish, McGuire's Irish but in a pinch, if nothing else is available, and if it is cold enough(flows in chunks out of the bottle), IBC. Will PS, I hear Arne's Black Label Reserve will make a Pinstripe fanatic don costume and drive a roadster! I believe Gary has pictures... Molsen Golden commercial Constable stops a delivery truck and checks out the foot well, then asks the driver(still sitting): "What's behind the seat"" The driver says, "the rest of the truck."
  24. I do have to say here, My first Z was a '76. I am in the heat belt, and never have had a problem with heat transfer on anything but a '73 240Z. On my '76, I actually used the aluminum injector mounting hardware because I could polish them up and add some bright work on top of the manifold-still never had a heat transfer problem. It would be pretty easy to add a 280ZX injector fan to your 280Z. Simple wiring, factory parts, and made to work with an L28 with exactly that issue. Will
  25. Wanting $7k and getting it are two different things. Not that their prices are correct, but look up Kelly Blue Book and try to use their value to bring this guy closer to reality. He sees a silk purse, full of coin, where there isn't one. It sounds like he wants someone to pay $8K for a fairly low mileage drivetrain in a rusty, rolling container...not Me! One could get a completly and properly rebuilt drivetrain much cheeper. Keep looking, something better will come along. Will
