Media Blasting Resurrection of the Horns
Media Blasting is fun! When I first started cleaning up my parts I really enjoyed the before and after. I use Glass Bead more than anything else, and control the air pressure to make a difference in cleaning times(at the expense of the media), but I do keep walnut Shells and Aluminum Oxide on hand as well. Sometimes I just toss the parts in my Revibratory cleaner and let it go. One thing I noticed is that thoroughly degreasing the parts to be cleaned really helps out and keepy the media from being contaminated-and spreading the grease to everything else in the cabinet. Now I have a stainless steel pot that I boil most parts in with a water/degreasing agent (Whisk, Marine Clean, Simple Green, etc) for a while before I blast them, When boiling a part would not be a good idea(Master Vac), I clean it thoroughly with clean rags, a spray bottle of the above mixture, and give it a final rinse with Mineral Spirits(spray bottle). Let it dry and spray media at it! Will PS all of the unrestored/NOS Horns I have seen have the Olive Drab coating on them

NOS 240Z Parts on Craigslist

Universal Parts Availability
Ron, I think-perhapse wrongly-that there are only around 20 part numbers that are seriously in demand enough to make this worth while, and I have tried several hundred part numbers at my local dealer(I have notes on what was actully NLA). I have tried interior parts, switches, and a few mechanical parts-the vast majority for 240Z, and in each case, tried each part number in order(sometimes the newer successions don't show or are not readable in EFast, so I pulled out my parts books, and tried every part number in some cases several times.) Maybe the thing to do is create a wish list and see who wants what. I'll re-run it at my dealer to confirm availability, and see what we have. Will

New 240Z Door Panels 70-73
Not to derail this thread, but... Ron, Jeff, as I understand it from my local parts manager, you are dead on. I had asked him early last year to check into his ability to get parts that were available in Canada, he said that the issue was that Nissan USA was not allowed to order specific parts from Japan, or move parts across the border. Hard to find parts. Fuel Damper/Fuel injector gaskets
I bet the parts manager-or the dealership owner would like to know that parts counter guy was giving up gravy business-not much payroll in one short phone call(Vs looking up a part-even in Fast). As I understand it, dealerships get tier pricing based on volume, and the Parts Manager gets awards for volume because of it. They want the volume even if the counter guy didn't get that message-or doesn't care. Will

NOS 240Z Parts on Craigslist
I've ordered from him before, good guy, but by the time you pay his serious markup and shipping... Many of his parts are still available at the dealer, the 280Z console for example($121 at my local dealer), but being in BC, he has access to parts that our USA dealers do not. I don't know what we could offer in exchange, but setting up a club brothership between countries certainly would seem to be a good thing for NOS parts avaibility. It might be worth it to plan a trip and take a shopping list, a credit card, and a Fedex account! Will

Hard to find parts. Fuel Damper/Fuel injector gaskets
Other than the shipping charge goofiness, I wasn't knocking ZSource, just pointing out that all currently available OEM parts come from a dealer, and that shipping charges are sometimes a deal breaker. I agree that some dealers are better than others, that is why step Number 1 is to get a club CD and find your own part numbers! Some dealers do find it easier to avoid using Efast to hunt down a part number, but when you give them a part number, they have no reason to avoid punching it in and seeing what is what! You just saved them what most parts people consider the most aggravating part of parts look ups, and cut the time it takes by at least two thirds. The real key is the club CD. Using it to find your own part numbers gets you on the parts counter persons good side, and assures you can price the exact same part everywhere. When a part is truley rare, a good source is hard to beat-we used to have Chloe, and now we have to make do without her. But the only way to know a part is truely rare is to check the dealer and a couple of vendors. Hopefully no one here blindly trusts the use of the word "RARE" in an ebay ad. I think many Ebay sellers like Red-Dat simply choose not to write an ad with out using it! Will

What should be in a new member kit?
The closest thing to a FSM for a Baby that I have found is available for free from registering for the Publix ( http://www.publix.com/clubs/baby/Home.do ) baby club! I have to admit, it has no cross references part numbers, no service bulletins, but it does go along way the first time something:hurt: that scares the crap:tapemouth out of a new Father happens on his watch:surprised and you find out you are seriously overreacting:confused: and not the biggest dufus Dad in the world! Whew:beer:-Mike, as I have said in the forums many times-get the FSM-er, book!! Will PS, this is good for a great many points with MAMA as well! just make sure she catches you reading it(right side up and open!) PSS, one more Z related bit of advice-Ask Carl Beck how to raise boys-He has the best answer to keeping them in line-I have met Carl Jr., and it looked to me like his training was still in placeROFL!

Hard to find parts. Fuel Damper/Fuel injector gaskets
Be absolutely sure you check your local dealer for parts too. When a seller does not include the Nissan Part number, it usually means they don't want a buyer to be able to check the dealer or any other third party source for pricing-remember our Ebay buddy red-dat... CourtesyParts.com lists factory part numbers to let you shop the cost. Some strange things I noticed about ZCar Source: 1)The New dampener that ZCarSource sells for $118.31 they add $24 to ship...seems awful high for something that could go priority mail anywhere in the USA in three days or so for around $8(including the box, and free pickup!). 2)Shipping on the same part used is $12...the used one is smaller and weighs less? Will PS The same(assuming it is the factory part) fuel pressure dampener from my Nissan dealer runs me $105 with tax. Always check prices if time and money is important. I can get almost any part that is still available from my local dealer in three business days, and normally less expensively than anywhere else once you add the shipping charges in. The best way to shop for parts is to 1) Get a club CD, 2) Use it to locate your part numbers, 3) Call the Dealer, check CourtesyParts, and any other vendors you want to check-always find out what shipping will be-a lowball price plus even reasonable shipping is not always less expensive than the dealer... In the example above-My dealer charges 105+tax works out to 111.30, a good bit less expensive than the cost of the part at ZCarSource, much less the $142.09 I would have to pay them for it-even though as an uninformed buyer that might sound good! I can think of something esle to do with the $30 than lose it for not taking 5 minutes to shop the price-on the exact same item. 4) Order the part, and figure out the next thing you need for your Z!

To Stripe or Not To Stripe?
You have jewelry on the car already, I would match the stripe to the Jewelry, or leave it off. It does attract more attention with the stripe, but more attention is not always a good thing. Will

Antenna Question
It depends, if you get one new from Nissan, it comes with the electrical adaptor to drop right in, if you get it out of another car, you probably won't get the connector adaptor, and will have to make up something or modify the wiring. Will PS, I have a new one in the box, and given time to hunt it down, can provide you with a picture of the adaptor in question, and the partnumber of the assembly. Will

Electrical Help for Taillights/Dash Lights
I did read that you checked your fuses, but the issue you are having is a bad fuse-one controls everything that is out. Did you look at the fuses or pull each one and check it with a VOM or continuity tester? If you have full confidence in your fuses, pull your fuse box and check each circuit for continuity across the fuses-maybe you have a bad connection at a fuse instead of a bad fuse. Will
