I doubt you need glasses, I am just waaaay to familiar with Zs!! Will
  2. Everybody is telling you to either very careful and thorough in checking out the car, or find one outside of the rust belt. I'll add find a member(or members!) close to what ever car you locate, and get them to have a look with you. Most Z guys look for a reason to go look at another Z! Will

Welcome! You must be going through shock-not having the Z for the last few months! Will

You have Standard issue 280Z plastic hubcaps on standard issue steel wheels. But they look to be in great condition-which makes them rare! Will
  5. More importantly, your eleven year old was able to actually help his Dad! Without him you would still be three hours into an unsolved problem! Will
  6. Tomohawk, hunt the Tranny rebuilding kit sites, they will list who made what transmission that is used in what car...it would atleast narrow your search. Will
  7. I must admit that The ZCCA should be Zs only, and that is why our local club makes the owners of other Nissan models Honorary Members-they can claim us, but they do not pay dues and are not on the Member roster, just the email notification list...sort of like the Texas Z Club and Mr. K... Planning ZCCA events that non-member locals could actually attend would go along way in helping to build club excitement within the local community.

Al knows that is neither NLA nor rare-still available from ANY US Dealer just for getting them to order it. Will PS, ANyone who does not check any ebay part for dealer availability should-more often that not the NOS and Rare parts are not...they are simply fraudulently advertised as being that way. The Club Cd will give you part numbers, what you do with them is up to you...
  9. Tomohawk, I didn't miss that, I only pointed out that no matter what the reason, more people don't attend because the car show is not on the most convenient day of the week for most people-true, you can't be everything to everyone, but the more convenient you are to most people, the more of them that will show up! Next year, out oldest boy will be in school, around here that means there are only so many days he can miss-attending the entire convention would wipe out all of his days for the year-without being sick, playing hookey, or taking a Day off with Dad. Will
  10. Tomohawk, You also will find Nissan on the car-In bigger letters than anywhere it says Datsun-right on top of the engine! I won't even disqualify a car for not being a Z-what would make you think any of that would bother me! Point was you were! I saw the show was on Tuesday-the powers that be do not seriously want to grow participation-their choice to limit participation to those who can take time off during the week, and not make a larger event by making it more convenient to more people. Will
  11. The previous two posts are great advice! If you are drawn to this seller, make sure you get the details of his warranty in writing-no exchanges or refunds means his warranty will more than likely require that the engine be shipped back to him-around $300 to quote him, and you can bet he will not pay to have it shipped back to you, so in all likely hood you will be out $600 shipping, plus the cost/time to remove, crate and un-crate and replace the engine, and the time with the car inop. That $2000 selling price worded to sound like shipping is free-it isn't(add around $300) and filled with contradicting information as to what was done on the engine is there to sucker you(just like "the call me for details" ) in. It is your choice to buy from a person who makes sure his ads are confusing so that he cannot be held accountable. This means, what ever he says on the phone, unless you get it clearly and concisely in writing and as an original signed, dated notarized, and legally admissible statement, do not assume he will be a man of his word. $2000 sounds good until you realize it will be $2300, and there are flaws in his descriptions that will cover the flaws he knows are in his work. Think of having to spend more than $600 and the time it would take if you have an issue that might actually be covered by his 90 day warranty. The devil is in the details-and that is why he makes sure they are not clear. Realize too he recently sold a truck with an engine he rebuilt in it that was having problems after only 8000 miles-more than likely he didn't rebuild it again because he knows what he didn't do the first time-he got burned by one of his own engines! If a man proclaims to be a professional, but can't rebuild a comparatively simple Four Cylinder engine for his own use such that lasts more than 8000 miles, what about about that makes you think a more complicated engine he rebuilt would do better for you? Spend your money where you want, but at least get a better understanding of what you are buying than he is offering. He will not want to put the details clearly into a court admissible document-even though he constantly offers engines for sale, and it would only take one document to cover all most all of them. If you don't have the details, he can change them to thwart any circumstance at any time. His lack of documented accountability is what you should examine closely, it is the basis of any warranty, guarantee, promise or statement he may make. If he can't take care of details he wrote in in an ad, do you really believe he will take care of details where you probably will never see them? Review the thread noted above for the proof. Will
  12. Yup, you need it! Will

Ronnie, If you could forget your password, you weren't logging in enough! : Glad to see you back...now post some pictures of what you have done to your car in the meantime! Will
  14. Tomohawk, I gotta say this, while I can understand keeping a Z club all Zs, Your Z isn't all Z! What shifter(and boot) and mirrors do you have? Excluding all but the pure bred means you should be out too! What do you do with the Zs with engine swaps, or seats from other cars... Do you have a Datsun or a Nissan? If you have a Datsun, it is a Datsun by Nissan-as It states on all of the factory literature. If you have a Nissan, Infinity is Nissan just like Datsun was Nissan-a marketing decision to use a different name-both used to differentiate the brand from the Manufacturer-true, for different reasons. Our Local club welcomes all Nissans cars. We grant them honorary membership-basically they are on the club email list, and are invited to accompany us to club events. Will

  16. And a few more... Notes: 1) Rust in battery area-not treated-just painted over, and coming back-even though the car has not been stored outside since it came to the low country. 2) The body steel extending down the hatch is 1/2" lower than the hatch-built up with filler. 3) A dallop of filler in the top corner of the windshield channel? 4) No attempt to bump any of the metal close to the right shape-every panel(except the roof) has shallow dents that will be worked out instead of filled. 5) more than 1" of filler in several places 6) The car shows absolutely no evidence of any attempt at chassis straightening. PS I shot a video of the Testarosa being backed past Larrys Z, you can feel the Z begging for a few more minutes...btw the a car that red, that wide, and attention getting should have a louder deeper growl! I'll post it later.
  17. More details... The floor rear floor between the taillights and the riser behind the seats is seriously tweaked. There is not one level spot in it. The tirewell is not round, or level, as pointed out before the rear floor beside the tire well is bent upward on both sides, the floor in front of the tirewell is bowed up, what I originally thought were shrinkage cracks in the sound deadening have turned out to be stress cracks. The curve at the rear of the car is 1/2" inward from where it should be at the center of the panel-and it is all in the rear floor. The car will be trammed as per the Nissan Restoration Checklist over the next week, and I will get pictures with a straitedge across the area to show how distorted it is. In the meantime here are some more pictures of other impact damaged areas.

$1495 BIN with free shipping................Maybe if I lived on the MOON! One More reason to attend Amelia Island, Last year at Amelia Island-right after the Greats of the CanAm Panel talk, Mr. Peter Brock and Mr. John Morton Signed my version of this poster, I had gotten Paul Newmans Autograph several years earlier in Atlanta. Just gotta catch up with Bob Sharp, and Steve Millen...and have the poster in hand! Will
  19. Look at the individual points taken line by line, it may be that you have a total score for the area and the judge did the math, subtracting the raw score in the area from 100. In example: a total of a 12 point deduction would give an 88. Will

All of it was still available. When I pick up the parts, I'll post the part numbers right off the invoice so you will have the latest part numbers. Frequently the new version of old parts come in a different finish-"clear" cad plating vs Gold cad-but the hardware in question came clear cad plated. Will.
  21. Tomohawk, What you got was 0 points deducted-a perfect score! Only deductions are tallied on the judging sheets. Will

GOOOOOD MORNING Genove! Welcome to ClassicZCars.com, the home of S30 information-and not necessaarily Dan the man Levitan! Welcome, congratulations, and hope to see pictures! Will
  24. Clipped for addressing. All of the cars are to be judged equally-the scores at one show should be the same for cars in the same condition-regardless of weather/detailing time, that is what makes the judging fair between shows. Otherwise previous entries either got an advantage, or spat on. I got the same conversation, as with my bringing a car to Daytona and to Ohio, some times the best laid plans don't come to fruition through no fault of those planning-my boys were dissapointed, but still had a great time I do believe that trailering a car does grant a serious detailing advantage, but should there be a difference between the grading of a trailered car and a driven car? I have to say in the quest for a Gold Medallion, or a Gold Cup the expectation is that the car is essentially a best weather trailer loader. In all of the classes including the daily driver class, the cars that win are those that most closely approach new and unused condition-that is the nature of a car show, and certainly the aim of the ZCCA rules. Along the same line of driven vs trailered, should there be a difference in the grading of an owner restored car and a car that had a paid for restoration? I think maybe a separate award for acknowledgement of personal work-but even that is difficult to prove-one of the first Gold Medallion cars(also the one used by the Franklin Mint for their model) was built by Bill Reagan yet a year after it was sold the new owner claimed he had re-done all of the restoration....Pride makes people do strange things-what this means is maybe there could be different classes for both driven and owner restored cars, but I believe that some of those who work the advantages, would still work the advantages-My thought is if I want my work to go up against the best out there, it needs to go up against the best out there. Also and more to the point, to quote a friend of mine and a senior judge: "The shows are not about trophies, they are about cars." That said, The rules are getting a revamp this year-I have always thought it was kind of funny that the newer Zs have been graded on the same scale with the early cars given there is a huge plate/IM at the top of the late models engine compartment blocking view to most/all of the parts that get grimey on the early models! Detailing a slab at the top of the engine is just a wee bit easier than detailing a series 1 alternator...much less the entire engine and its compartment! Will
  25. I agree that having the cars in place the day before the show would allow best efforts at detailing to be made, but that requires the hosting club/ZCCA to secure(and probably insure) an area that is normally a good distance from the actual convention-and usually not completely covered or easily securable. It would be nice to have the hotel and the show in close proximity, but I am sure that would create an entirely new set of complications/added expenses. The Ohio Team did go the extra mile in securring private garages for thise who chose to use them(I don't know if they ran out of availble spaces) As to the weather, it did the same thing and worse at Daytona. The wind the morning of the show whipped the curtians, and their chains, ultimately resulted in damage to a few cars-we didn't count that mornings damage in the exterior judging, nor did we get really picky about the underside of the cars-what could be got to with out laying on the wet ground we counted. Same thing went for Ohio. If it could be reached by stooping, it was judged. Right or wrong, the ZCCA rules don't address anything but the condition of the car, and what couldn't be judged on every car(a wet underside) we assumed to be good on every car. Will
