look in my gallery-when properly installed the look really good! I wrote an installation guide several years ago-check the archives-I'll post a link later tonight, no time to search at the moment... Will
  2. This second car looks more like a refreshed car than a survivor. I believe it has a dash cap, the evidence of a tapejob around the door plate, the fact that the block paint is awful, and only selected hoses were "armoralled", couple that with this car coming from a dealer not careful enough to remove the phrase "this is a twelve year old USED British truck with over 90,000 miles" and not only is the mileage not given, but the majority of the pictures are overexposed... This is a car I would absolutely have to go over in person...too many things listed as done with to many more evident. Will
  3. My guess: The master positive wasn't completely ready when the first emblems were needed, so they finished up the absolutely necessary details(mounting pins), and made a set of temporary molds for use until the master positive could be finished and a master mold made- and put into use. Will

I used the radiator specialty paint from Eastwood to paint the entire radiator-fins and all-really thin stuff, covers really well! Probabaly engine enamel would work as well-but thinned for making thinner coats. Will
  5. Chris, Only the First page(the pics of the building) is new-though several have updated information(Donation link, BOD-page size...)-the last three pages have been up for two months or so... I'll see about making a trip...though here lately the boys have done everything in their power(with a little help form Murphy) to keep me close to home! Will

Lots of post scarab-conversion changes, a seriously modded scarab-I wouldn't think it would be as valuable as one that is "un-fooled-around" with, but Vicky(ZRUSH) is the only one I know restoring a scarab... Will

  8. Too bad both of you keep the chamber empty! (so does anyone else with any thoughts of safety! My guns are locked in a rifle safe, This is Georgia, and guns are a part of education, Readin', writin', Cipherin', hunting and fishing-though not necessarily in that order. A dirty mind is a horrible thing to waste! Flirting makes almost anything more fun...in the right location!! One of my first posts here was this photo... http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=8967&cat=500&ppuser=4106 Will
  9. Thanks Chris! Slight single page update, New Logo, picture of the building, and Fred and Johnnie opening the doors! www.datsunheritagemuseum.com Will
  10. I like the topic-and the participants, just didn't care for the location! ON Bill, be afraid, be very afraid... Check out his choices in hats-as can be found in his gallery, he also has a particular and peculiar thing about pink plastic coat hangers... Will

The only problem with meandering here is this is the forum for "Help Me !! This is the emergency HELP ME forum for those of you that are having troubles with your Z-Car and need immediate help." We have forums for virtually everything-and this meandering should be put on one of the forums that is not specifically titled for a Z emergency! Will

Ron, I am in the same boat-er-tube! The only posters(sort of) I have hanging are the Victory Motors enlargement, and the Dream Garage that used to hang in a Dealership(it is not on the wall, but it is out)-as you say everything else in in a tube. I am going to remodel my den/office and I want the posters displayed in it-It has 10-12 feet of windows centered on one wall, and I want to address the fading with more than covers. Will

Chris, I have been going back and forth about matting with framing and just framing. I have a professionally done matted lay out of photographic enlargements of the 1970 240Z sales brochure done for Victory Motors(the local dealer when the Z first came out), it has faded over the last 38 years-as my Showroom version of the Dream Garage has(I didn't realize how badly the showroom Dream Garage had faded until Ron sent me one of the dealer giveaway versions to compare it with). Anyway-any idea if there is a glass that will stop/inhibit the fading? Thanks for the link as well! Will PS.. if anyone has some high res scans of the original 240Z Brochure I could get to renew the Framed enlargements from Victory Motors...
  14. Crown Manufacturing and D!ck Barbour made kits back in the day, Here is a thread from a while back with info on both... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22581&highlight=carb+forced+induction Will

DO'oh, caught again! Given the necessity of maintenance, anything will last when it is provided, but as far as I know the first group included those that like to maintain their cars. Here in the USA I must admit the one friend I knew in Highschool with an MG could hardly get gas in the car, but he did love it-fortunately what he lacked in mechanical ability(he used wrenches as paperweights), his parents bank account made up for, It seemed to me that car was tuned up every 500 miles or so-the valves just wouldn't stay...but that could have been a "smart" mechanic... Another experience from that time frame I had to draw from was neighbor who had 8 old Jags, all of which I rode once in, none of which started twice in a row...he finally got fed up and told me:"you know if I put a buck on the front seat of each one and rolled them in the river, I'd miss the $8." They all were bought by the Rayhal family, and most of them are in pieces in a storage unit to this day-the building is rotting away, but the parts are still in it-I'll have to make them an offer! in College, I had a friend with an aluminum MGB, He drove it for a year, and then had it all over his rental for three years... This was the total of my British car experience-other than consistantly over the last 30 years visiting an old car lot in Maggie Valley, NC where several old Jags(as well as a good many other once beautiful and not for sale cars) are slowly rusting away to nothing... But, then the same thing is true of the Italian cars I have owned-USA POs do tended to drive the cars until they fall apart...and then sell them. WIll

Get classic insurance, add some Stabil, fill the tank, have the parental units take her for a date once in a while(good for them, good for the car, good for you!), maybe even enter her in a carshow-build their enthusiasm as E said-and drive her proudly when you head home for the good weather holidays! You will have a car that appreciates while you are in school driving one that steadily depreciates...think of it as a saving account if you must, but keep the Z! Will
  19. I reread the email collection last night, and got back up to speed. This is some of the neatest verifiable part of the Z, and I have several rust buckets put away and stablized waiting for spot weld removal to release panels(and order)...but far down the road. Will
  20. I would agree-except the Z32 is (aside from being a beautiful car) exactly what Nissan advertised it to be. Nissan always painted the Z32 as a super car, and a worthy extension the Z lineage. Nissan painted the 350Z as a new generation of the 240Z "sharing its DNA", "and that marketing lie is what makes my case. Look at all of the early 350Z marketing-it is all built on the lineage of the 240Z. If Nissan had sold the car on what it was, and not what came before it, they would not have gotten such a passionate response(I wouldn't have cared at all) Hopefully they have learned playing the lineage card in marketing has to hold up to a DNA test even for a chimera. Once again a father who has no resemblance to his son has to wonder about DNA. Ebayers who take such poetic license in a description are branded bad-I get passionate about that too.... Will

I figured out early in my car experience that long term British car owners came in three varieties: 1) Those who loved to tinker far more than to drive. 2) Those who were in denial(and ever hopeful), but had money. and 3) Those who knew that a show car does not have to run, if you have a winch in your trailer, and something else to pull it with! I have your factory alter ego here! Currently my only Driveable Z... I have yet to put the door mouldings back on, it is a "J" vin NA, and I put the turbo wheels on it Will More pics here: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=9071&ppuser=4106 well, maybe not...
  23. Ron, When I cut one of my rusty buckets up, sans the firewall, one person can load the rear of the car onto a trailer reasonably well-meaning I agree with your balance thoughts -also if you look at the flanges at the firewall, maybe the car was made in the two sections and joined together there for handling economies...that and an out of line repair stop might also explain some of the vin irregularities. What I know about this subject could fill the void in a spot weld, but it is interesting-as are the photos and sketches! Will
  24. I haven't heard anyone knock the technical aspects of the 350z(OK well the alignment issues it had early on, and its weight), my primary beef with it is that is just butt ugly to me. You are right, Nissan didn't design it for me, they designed it for their accountants-therein is the problem, the 240z was designed to be a world class car first (granted the economic climate it was designed in pretty much took care of the bean counters). I'll also grant you Nissan isn't even close to the same company it used to be-the view is no longer people centric, it is Dealership owner centric. As disappointing as it may be "to see people not appreciate a 350Z for it being a Z and continuing the Z legacy" it is far more disappointing to see Nissan ignore the Z legacy and build and market a car that does not belong in it. Will
