  1. My opinion is all over the threads, but here it is again. The 350z is a logical reuse of an excellent platform with among the ugliest exterior I could expexted to see only in a japanese comic book(...Project X did not come out before the 240Z)-its one saving grace in that respect is that you can't see any of it from the drivers seat! It looks like an automotive stylists tribute to a tree frog(especially in green). People have pointed out what they consider to be styling cues shared with the 240Z, but I don't see them as any more shared styling than a glass windscreen alloy wheels, rubber tires, two seats, rear wheel drive, and lugnuts... I have seen that some look better than others, and with a paint scheme to break up the cars actual lines, the convertibles can actually look good. The 240Z(S30) is the prettiest of the Zs, followed by the late model 300s. I would buy a new Z with a straight 6, and a few parts that are 240Z interchangeable or strongly favor the originals-Z emblems, gages, Hatch vents, Taillights, and jdm headlight covers. It would also need to share some Profile lines-it should favor nothing but a 240Z-one of the problems with the AudiTT-er 350Z, and its platform sharing bretherin... Will

I ordered first thing this morning, and #8 is coming home to Savannah! From the BRE2 Newsletter: In 1971, Peter Brock commissioned his good friend and talented automotive artist, George Bartell, to paint an image of the team's SCCA C-Production BRE Datsun 240Z. He wanted something special... worthy of celebrating their Championship wins of '70 and '71. The result was this stunning limited-edition poster. It's so incredible and rare (we don't even have one) we decided to have an original reproduced using a super high-quality photographic process (no normal 4 color poster print process here) and heavy photo quality paper to give sizzling color reproduction to Bartell's brilliant artwork. We've produced just 500 prints of this amazing piece of history. Printed in a generous 24"x 32" size each poster is individually numbered (e.g. 1/500). The first 46 posters (celebrating the car's famous "46") will have special meaning to any serious collector as each comes with both Peter Brock and John Morton's signatures! Serial numbers 1 through 46 will be allotted on a first come, first purchased basis and will be shipped the end of next week. Each of these special edition dual-signed posters are $89 each. Unsigned posters 47-500 are $49 each and are available for immediate shipping. Go here to get yours now.
  7. Yo Nate! Just for your info: CoastalZClub, we meet the third Tuesday of each month at Locos on Abercorn-the shopping center is on Abercorn, but Locos actually faces White Bluff road-at 7pm. We also have other activities that come up, and are announced via email, PM me your email and I'll put you on the list if you'd like! We will be participating in the Hilton Head Concors festivities ( http://www.hhiconcours.com/ ) Specifically the Car Club Jamboree, and will be having several events to have our cars ready for the show. Our Website is www.coastalzclub.com, and it is under serious construction! Will PS, We will be planning a cruise to Charleston before too long-just had a short one to Tybee Island Friday night-and welcome suggestions from a newly returned local as to where to eat, see, and be seen! My sister used to live in Goose Creek!

What should reproduction parts be made from? The same materials as the original parts, current generation materials... what do you think?

David, Pretty Damn cool-you lucky bugger! AS you started, do the obvious, cut and bond new carpet after peeling the worn out carpet, and cleaning up the underlying mat. Will

  12. A Power Antenna was a standard item, the true Nissan Part is expensive, and not the easiest part to find, but there are several afftermarket ones that work there are several threads in the archives about replacements. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27300&highlight=replacement+antenna I'll see if I can't round up the pertinant page(s) from the '78 FSM. The 240Z radiator has no tabs for shroud mounting on the bottom-only on the sides.... Probably a good thing it went to someone else... I have two of the OEM Metal shrouds, I'll look into making a hinged version-being that they are made from four pieces of pressed steel, shouldn't be too tough to keep the right OEM look from the top... I think Steel/Aluminum/composite would be best-that piece is large surface area wise, and is in the ambient air stream, meaning it will be flexing, and exposed to oil, heat, and other things that are not real friendly to most thermoplasics. I have an idea to try if anyone has one in great shape they would be willing to loan me for a week to make a mold from-and to be a beta tester(free sample in return)...my car is not on the road yet, so while I can make one up, I can't put it in the real world... The 280Z uses a slightly different one....similar, but not interchangeable-here is a NOS one for a 280Z... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110266358545&rd=1 Will

Get a good well known(and proven paint system) in a good brand(most manufacturers have several quality levels of paint) Martin Senior and Sherwin William are two I have used with very good results Wait!...if you are after chip repair, visit a company with computerized color matching-light blue metallic fades fast(comparatively speaking) and if you try to match for chip repair with a factory color mix, the odds are the repairs will stand out because the new paint is darker-even if only several months old(here in South Georgia). If you are painting the whole car, get a factory match to DN305, if you are fixing chips take the car in and have the color computer matched(using your existing paint) to the the most noticeable chips-or have it averaged and mixed. Is there any interest in early sticker duplication.... I have "a garage full of tools staring forlornly at me and gobs of time on my hands." Ok, maybe not the time.... Great Job! Will
  24. The OEM Z "T" handle is a mostly plasic handle that dries out and cracks in the sun(I went through 4 NOS ones while Driving my 280Z). I then tried the mostly metal "T" handle(has a color matched pad and button) from a 280ZX-it fits! No issues with material longevity, and usually looks good from the JY with only a cleaning. WIll PS, I put this in another thread several years ago and included pics... here are some links(links within the link below)...but no the ones I put pics in... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25855&highlight=280zx+handle
