Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Kats, Every time I think how wonderful and amazing your car is, you do some more to it, and it actually improves! It is truely amazing that everything you do pushes the standard! I hope that if you ever bring this/these cars to the states again you will let us know long before you travel so that we can make arrangements to travel to see you as well. Thanks for taking the time and energy to share your progress and knowledge with us! Will

New Owner
Welcome to the club! Congratulations on the purchase! For stock info on the car we are happy to help, for info on engine swaps, HybridZ would be a better source. Will

Bolt on horsepower
Probably a fake, if they wanted to get serious about proving their performance, they would have had the thing ISO tested. When reviewing the testing on the site, the manufacture date of the Impala used for testing has been removed from the test sheet-probably a older car with a lower emmissions requirement. Also It was delivered for testing-evidently not driven in, and "prepared" for the tests-with no explanation of what prepared means. It is easy enough to have a test performed, documented and proven repeatable-that isn't what was done here-why eight years hasn't it been done when it would absolutely increase sales? Only one reason I can think of... Will

Dash repair idea
If you want the Dash to look original-NOS or an undamaged used one are pretty much the only ways to go. Applying a uniform, proper and well matched pattern to fiberglass would be the biggest challenge. Try this: Make your composite cloth layup of the valley area between the tach and the speedo that has the proper finish-when you can make that area and texture look better than the same area on a the dash cap, then maybe. BTW. I have had a dash cap installed since 1992 in a 240z that would drop a valve if it saw the inside of a garage from the inside. In the 16 years that cap has been installed, it has not cracked, warped, or otherwise had an issue. I bought the cover from MSA and paid something like $120 including shipping. The real key to the covers is installation-I posted my secrets in a thread four or more years ago. I have a NOS dash, a restored Dash(Dash Restorations USA), and the capped dash, and in comparing the three of them side by side(photos of the NOS and restored dash are in another thread). The cap looks closer to the NOS texture than the restores dash. I have gotten 16 years out of a $120(incl s&h) cap-with no hint it is going to be an issue in the near future, so putting a great deal of time into fabbing up another solution just doesn't make too much sense to me. With careful installation, the only areas you can absolutely tell that there is a dash cover installed is at the ends of the dash-or with the glove box open-riding down the road, no one will notice-except ZCCA judges, serious enthusiasts, and the anal among us. I would notice(I fall into all three groups), and I would smile and complement you on the installation, or ask if you wanted some help getting it on there where it wasn't as noticeable. The only show that I know of with judges with enough experience to spot the differences between NOS/Original and restored dashes are ZCCA shows. In a ZCCA judged show, If I was going for a Gold Medalion, anything short of a NOS or original or undamaged dash would loose points anyway. In the Modified/drivers classes, you could probably get away with a restored or covered dash with no points lost. If you aren't entering a ZCCA show in the Stock class...the cap works, is easy to install, and inexpensive in terms of both time and materials. Unless I have a Stock Class entry, once I have used my NOS and my restored Dashes, I will use full face caps unless I come across a NOS or excellent condition used Dash for a song... Will

Adam, This really belongs in the classifieds-Mike made a Parts wanted post there. But in addition to Ebay, MotorSport Auto, Black Dragon, and most all Z parts suppliers even JC whitney sells those! Will

Reproduction JDM headlight covers with trim
They are on the back burner, but still simmering. A member in Ohio has the lens manufacturer sourced, and I am "working" on getting the trim made with a good bit of other stainless parts for the Z. When all of this gets sorted out, I will post the availability here on this thread first, and then elsewhere. Will

Can some one tell me what year this TB is?
I believe that is from an early 240sx, it looks funnel shaped. The later 240SX versions were essentially a tube with the mouth the same size as the exit, both were an upgrade to the original 280z(X), but the later version is the most "upgraded" These upgrades came about as a less expensive alternative to the Webber Big Throat. I'll see about taking some photos of the 280Z(x) pieces, both 240SX pieces, and the Webber Big throat side by side tomorrow afternoon. I'll probably add some intake photos as well-280Z,280ZX, and Maxima Diesel. Will

Hemmings Article - Nissan 50th Anniversary in the US
It is easier to write a "Readers Digest" version of what was written back in the day than to research the truth hindsight has uncovered. If you want the clear view of hindsight-always go see those with passion for the subject. Hemmings has evidently condoned trading automotive passion for Cliffs Notes of previous articles. This is the essence of what sometimes happens when a "professional" does a job a passionate enthusiast should do. Will

Hemmings Article - Nissan 50th Anniversary in the US
Good to see the Z police smacking around the essence of quick buck journalism! One more case of a reporter doing a bare minimum of research, and not seeing what has actually been discussed by those that keep the drive alive. If I had anything else to ad, it would be shame on Hemmings if they don't correct the issue, and get that guy to straighten out his "facts" and print a more researched version. Will

Welcome to 240Z ownership, and congrats on finding a good starting place, and other than the off-hand 280Z louver comment(coupe hatches and hatch glass are fully interchangeable between 240Z 260Z and 280Zs)-good article, and good job! I anxiously await the Z and roadster articles! Will

Replaced the fuel pump, now it wont start
Welcome to the club! We need more information on your situation 1) How much of the history of the car do you know. Has it been your daily driver for the last 6 months, did you rescue it from a long nap in someones back yard, was it a hand-me-down that was only driven out of the garage in the sunshine...all of these things can come into play.. 2) How long have you had it? 3) How long since its last tuneup? 4) Any other issues recently? Some things to check-in order of easy. 1) Check for spark. 2) check for fuel-are you getting it to the injectors at enough pressure 3) check the injectors to see if they are working(plug a bare led in-it will only work one way-to verify pulse) put a rod or a screwdriver on the injector and to your ear to listen for the firing of the injector. 4)if there is a fuel problem(and the pump is running), pull up the carpet and Urethane pad in the hatch. Under these you will find a 5 inch diameter plate held in by two phillips sheet metal screws. Remove them and the pickup plate on the gas tank will be exposed. Remove the hoses-noting where they go, and the fasteners, then the pickup. Look for a clogged pickup, and use carb cleaner and a stout brush on the pickup. Unfortunately, if the pickup is that bad, you need to drain and drop the tank, the pump. and the lines to the pump and clean them(if the gas is fresh-and not stinky or sticky, filter it and put it back in the tank later). After that I would run some fuel system cleaner through the car. As a heads-up, don't forget the search function. Most of the troubleshooting you need-including what I posted for you-is in the archives, which is part of why no one posted. Add to that the sparse info about your situation with your car, and those that would post are not apt to because it is too easy to be wrong with a shot gun approach to troubleshooting a car with an unknown history. Several of us have typed long and detailed answers to your questions from other people with in the years we have been here as have those before us, how many times will you type the same info? The longer you are here, the more you will come to realize that the Search function is the most valuable tool of this site. Don't let its price fool you. Will

Japanese Nostalgic Car
I just peeled the plastic off Volume 1 Issue 1 of Japanese Nostalgic Car, and instead of taking some pictures of some parts(Sorry)for another member, I read it while eating lunch. (I'll take the photos tonight...) Very engaging magazine-with a fitting first cover, and major stories. A 240Z dominant on a cover also featuring a matching 510 a famous 2000GT, and a Mazda-backed with serious articles on pictured cars inside!. Beautiful photography, interesting articles(including a "wake up" smack to the back of the head for the less than knowledgeable current Japanese car enthusiasts (hehehe!)-not that a good many don't know what started it all. This is an excellent addition to my Nissan Sport subscription-it is not even close to the same magazine, but it places several of the pieces of the history of the American racing of Japanese cars in perspective. Several pictures of members cars, serious event coverage, and even directions to Japanese Automotive Museums-in Japan! This was a very good buy! There were a few not necessarily spot on "facts" (even from our more famous vendors-Maybe next time they want a valuation and a what to look for, they'll contact the head of the household at Zhome.), but I enjoyed the magazine thoroughly. Randy, If all of us were so lucky!
