  1. That kind of talk will get you one in a hurry!
  2. I never said anything about your car was wrong... Your logic I may question, your passion I never will-part of why I'd sit down with you for a conversation over an appropriate beverage. If you are actually shooting for " the position it held in the market at it's debut, but in today's automotive world" you need to identify it more clearly-its closest sibling is still a mass produced assemblage of mass produced parts, with a six cylinder heart, and pressed steel suspension parts. There are other, more (to me) beautiful Modified Z cars, such as Zrush, and Zwolf, I don't see them(or yours) wholly as Zs, or as something that is undeniably not a Z, but I see them as Z related-Hybrid/Modified Zs. Yours is neither the first, nor the only one of its kind, This guy named Darius has been defying Darwin in one for years-As far as I can tell yours has no parts that are unique to it, nor is it a unique assemblage of parts. The most unique thing about it is that you own it and on occasion take hubristic pride in it. That is not to knock it at all-it is beautiful. I feel the same way about my Vert and the plans I have for my 240Z, but at the end of the day, they are both modified Z cars that happen to be either as or on the way to being as I want them to be. They are-my modified Zs I am every bit as proud of them as any Z owner is of his/her own Z(s). Mine are in progress to to be my vision of what is best, but that does not mean I can't respect and/or admire yours-or anyone elses.
  3. MCgard. They will look and function great for as long as you own the car. http://www.mcgard.com/AutomotiveProducts/LugNuts Will

Congratulations and welcome! I don't know why hasn't anyone told you to post Pictures, but you REeeealllly should!
  5. Exactly! I know a few of us check of for matching numbers when we look at a Z, but most don't, if it looks right where it is most don't dig for an issue. It isn't like the six cylinder L series blocks are the same...
  6. I have to say, you do post some "interesting" things, and one day I want to buy you your favorite Beverage! Math Manipulation...can you show me how? I didn't make the results fit the desired outcome through any unintelligible formula, we didn't load the ballot box, show me as clear of an alternative viewpoint of the polls data. To see it you must understand it, and for you to understand it you must be able to explain it. I have never thought that honoring something involved modifying it, I never honored my mother and father by taking what they told me to do and changing it to fit what I wanted to do-and certainly would not feel honored if my boys were to modify my instructions. 26thZ, he knows what honoring the Z car is about, he has invested a tremendous amount of time and energy and money into finding out exactly what a Z was as it was designed, imported, and sold originally. Studying something, identifying it and glorifying it in its original form, all honor it. You don't seem to recognize that in wanting something to be different enough to actually change it, you didn't want what was originally there enough to keep it-where is the honor for the original in that? Saying you are honoring something by changing it is a backhanded compliment-the sort used in a bar on those too ignorant to recognize it for what it is... The Carnie trained used car salespeople at Barret Jackson are there to sell cars-and use all of their carnie tactics to do so. Imagine that-hype and misdirection work when coupled with what are effectively paid celebrity endorsements... who knew! You keep using the behavior of ignorant people as proof of your points, and I'll keep calling you on it-statistically their behavior will always be the exception rather than the rule, and that means they are not a proof but an acknowledged and identified error.
  7. Now the question is was the last purchase a shill, or did someone get caught by the "No Returns" after he figured out his enthusiasm got the best of him with an impulse/convenience buy.
  8. Wait a minute, that car is unique-it was owned by a guy that built and defended his reputation on ignorance and was too proud to look into what he was told. That car is unique because it is a reminder to the rest of us how powerful misinformation can be when pride mixes with it and it is presented as fact to and by those that are ignorant-also a testament to Journalists to research and verify your "facts" I too know a Zowner with a authentic factory electric sun roof-it is in his Lexus!
  9. As long as you are truly remorseful, actively seeking-and progressing toward a correct repair, and read Project X 240Z The Fated Z Plan in its entirety to every youngster you know below the age of 8-that way you will prove your seriousness!
  10. Absolutely a must do! A "Mini Me" for your car!
  11. Heat them up carefully but hot and smack the wrinkles with the back of a large wooden spoon-Here we just put them in the sun for a little while-the wrinkles should dissipate, the materiel just needs to find its groove. These guys have been making replacement upholstery for the Z32 crowd for some time
  12. Something like three years ago Bill sent me the last book(a fleshed out collection of articles he wrote for the club) he had of the work that he put into that car, he sent me color pictures for it as well-great guy! The car was definitely just right before it changed hands.
  13. I don't know about commanding-a seller is free to ask what ever he or she wants to, but they have no control over what someone is willing to pay for it. We have documented similar situations on the ZCCA posters in the archives-someone asked $600 or so several times, his poster went unsold, much like I suspect this auction will. From what I have seen the Franklin mint cars-even the 240Z- regularly move for between $60 and $125 depending on condition of the model and the box. That auction price was probably inspired by this one- http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-24-Datsun-240Z-1970-diecast-/170614104840?pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item27b964a308 -I see both as inexperienced fishermen fishing in a new hole! They can throw a shark line in the 55gallon drum I use to flush my outboard too, but I don't believe they'll catch anything there either!

What, No boobs? I want to say that is from either a magazine article or a Nissan shoot-I have seen it before in one of those-it was part of a series of pictures aimed at comparing the similarities highlighting the differences between the two cars. Will
  15. PTFE turns really well-if you can machine the rod, it shouldn't be a stretch to turn down an easily found but oversized rings-or a rod that could be bored and wafered.
  16. Congratulations-I know you have to be on the top of the world-I remember that feeling!, and envy you for having it!
  17. I hear beer works for most mechanics, cold beer more so, imported cold beer even more so! I know several members here that will sacrifice a new shirt for a chance to work on someone elses Z with a cold beer!
  18. I like the way you think! I have the brakes off a Track edition/Nismo 370Z on my Z32 vert, 14" rotors inside 18" wheels-I know about tight! If you look at the calipers you can see the wear pattern from the manual 1/4 turn I gave the wheels before I added a spacer and ultimately machined it down to 2mm and added longer lug studs in the front. I put tons of energy, time and money into my cars, and while I do store them carefully, I do drive them as well-beat her up pretty good at ZdayZ, 7 rock chips in the bumper-man were they fun to get! Zitus there is no cure, the only treatment is to keep adding Zs untill your garage is full, then add more garage and repeat! I pulled the Vented Toyota 4 pot brakes/Maxima bracket and the 280Zx rears for my Z and then found the Mustand Bullit wheels were just too much to ignore-so I set up for the 5 lug conversion, and planned for Z32 Brakes on it.
  19. And and a Corvette V8 aint what Mr. K had in mind for more power!::embarrass:
  20. I have a set of tripples on a canon Intake and either one or two spare complete carbs-and a canon intake in two parts (broken runner). I believe they are all DCOE 40s, but on the od parts I am actually not sure. I also have two pairs of the Down Flow Webers with manifolds. I have the Haynes Techbook Weber Carburetor Manual (also covers SUs)-and an original Mikuni book, and the Nissan Motorsports Schematic on the Mikunis, and SUs, early and late.
  21. I knew there was something about the reference to what Mr. K said about "more power:, and it has been bugging me since Lee scolded me with: Here is the preceding question and Mr. Ks full answer from the the interview in question. The interview took place between Mr. Yutaka Katayama and Don Hazen at at the 1995 Zcon in Atlanta. Mr. Hazen asked: "If there was one thing you could have done differently with the 240Z, what would it have been?" Mr. K answered: "More Power, I would have given the six cylinder engine more power." Looks like the pot called the kettle black... No harm, no foul, just a friendly poke in the ribs-if we can't laugh at ourselves, we will miss out on a whole bunch of fun!
  22. ...and plenty of Hooters Girls to give you a great reference!
  23. Love the hood and the side stripes-they work really well together! Can't wait to see the new pictures! Will PS, Don't know about GoPro, but my Contour Gps likes the editor in Apple quicktime.
  24. John, as always you make great, informed and educational posts-I have an Alpha1Gto Rebody kit on a 77 280Z with an L28ET running on the '77 electronics-it is pretty quick for what it is, but instead of jumping in and bringing everything in it S30 to the current state of the art, my though was that $ for $ the SLC would be a far better value performance wise.
  25. I hate it when I type so long my session times out-and neither a refresh nor the back button recovers the looong post! Chris, You don't sound too sure of your position-better ask that Hooters girl! I can always count on your passionate comments-and I appreciate that! Alan got to me long ago with the S30 and world view of the Z(-not to mention consistantly smacking us in the back of the head because as important as the USA was to the S30, we did not get all of the options and the cool parts the RHD parts of the world got-due to the DOT or getting the cars over here as fast as Nissan could)not the same, but the same...gray line to me-the kind that requires car show rules to become more explicit! I must admit, when someone asks me about a 240Z I see Bill Reagans 2545-while it was still in Texas-in my head. With you (and the so far silent majority here ) on one end and Lee(with the not so silent majority on-ahem-HybridZ) this could be a great thread! The passion for our cars is what it is all about-I can appreciate and respect anything that someone is passionate enough about to do something with, even if what they do is not something I want a title to! I don't think any well kept 240Z goes anywhere without being followed by some serious WOWs! I posted way back when about driving my 240Z to the Alltel Store and really pissing off a 350Z owner right after the 350Z came available-he had no clue what a 240Z was, but it pissed him off that an old sports car got more attention than his brand spankin' new one! That only gets better every time it happens-not so much the pissing off the 350Z owner-but the attention a well kept 240Z gets!
