I removed the gas tank to have it cleaned. Will a radiator shop clean this for me? Possibly steam clean it? Now I have a bunch of questions. In preparation for starting the engine, I want to do the following before starting. 1. Compression test - is Turing the engine over by hand a valid compression test? I need to get a good gauge, any recommendation 2. I need to drain the oil, what is the best oil to use? Which filter 3. Which spark plugs? Old ones are champion RNllYC 4. Should I change the points, or just go for it? 5. Where can I get a couple straps that secure the fuel tank? Did I forget anything? The car has been setting with ATF in the cylindears for a few days. It turned over easily by hand

Oh I'm still on top of the world here. It's always nice to get a great deal. It's like a new girl friend, but without the drama, and my wife approves. ?
  4. I’ll replace them with new. I just wanted it back together. I might continue work on the engine tomorrow. I think I’ll start blowing out the atf from the cylinders. What do you use to turn it over ? A strap wrench ?

Any recommendations on what I can add to my shop to help with this?

The only thing I hate worse than old dirty parts is cleaning them. Is there some place I can take old wheels, rims, and any other parts I've removed for cleaning ?
  8. Ok, I got it. The adjuster is in the front of the wheel. I got both rear wheels off, took the brakes off cleaned and reinstalled. So I did my first rear brake job. Old parts, but now I know how.
  9. I don't have an access point in the back to adjust the brakes. Is this normal, or do I have some type of aftermarket products? The one photo you can see the adjuster and also the back where you would access it.
  10. I got the left rear wheel off. I had to use a wheel puller. I'm working on the right rear. I just removed the cam cover.
  11. That is too cool. Damn this is some fun stuff.
  12. I got one off. Now the other side. Do you access the adjuster through the hole in the front of the wheel?
  13. I'm looking for a Nissan Factory Service Manual for 1970 240Z? If you see something let me know please.
  14. My brakes are stuck. I’ve pulled the rear tires off, and I’m trying to get the wheels off to look at the brakes. I’m using a rubber mallet and a block of wood, along with spraying wd40 and carb cleaner where I can to try to break things loose. Any ideas on a better way to do this. I’m thinking that ATF might be a better product to break things loose. ???
  15. I'm passing the win on to a kid that is coming by to look at my jeep. He's going to be way happy. Pasing it on
  16. I don't like these hub caps. Is there a nice looking set of rims used in the 70's? Where can I get them? Anybody want to buy these rims and tires, or trade for a nice set of rims?
  17. I've been looking for a project. I've been mostly looking at 4x4 old truck stuff. The other day a friend of mine asked me to help him move a 1984 veet that he just bought for $500. When we got there he mentioned there was a 240z there that the guy was also selling. I looked at the z took a few pictures and today the car is sitting in my garage. I had no idea my next project car was going to be a z car. I've always loved these cars. I was born in 1960, so the 1970 is just about the time I was starting to see and feel things. This car was one of my first loves. I've never drove one. This will be the first z I've ever driven. The man that owned it before me loved it. He drove it for years and then bought the 1984 vet and quit driving the z. It's been sitting covered for 15 years in his garage. He passed away and his son wanted the car gone. No problem. THe son also turned out to be somebody that recognized me from years ago. Our paths have passed in the past. I got in touch with Carl Beck. I knew very little about the car with the exception of how I fell in love with the car years ago. Carl provided me with enough information for me to make the decision to invest the $3500 in the car the seller was asking. The above photo is in my shop today. Check out all the registration year stickers . The rear brakes are locked up. It will roll, but not very easily. I'm going to get some atf and spray in their to see if the will release. I'm also going to spray the atf in the cylinders and let it set for a few days.
