Competition headers - carbs too hot
When everything is back in place it's not that serious looking, and you can also now see the duct at the bottom. Yes the car needs to be moving for the duct to help, but then again this car isn't really doing anything else but moving! I don't know about letting in engine compartment air since you get enough exhaust fumes from any car infront and not to mention your own. I know after a long run there is a build up inside and with a helmet on it can be  I was trying several options to cut the heat and it did. Oh and yes you can coat rusty surfaces. That is one of their sales pitches. The jet hot coating makes them look fresh and new besides keeping the heat in the pipe for the heat scavagening benifits. They sent me a demo video before I had it done. I would especially do new ones. Good luck.

Competition headers - carbs too hot
Heat is a big problem and a bigger problem on a hot summer day! After loosing time and money sitting at the track last summer, I was determined to minimize the heat / carb problem ya know. Here is a pic of the heat sheild I cut from scrap stainless steel and bent it fit under the carbs. I have also installed a piece of duct from the open hole next to radiator support to flow air under the shield too. Now the carbs don't even get warm! I check them after coming in from a 1/2 hour of full throttle, not only is it not hot but makes working & tuning easy- not hot. It may not look original but it works. I have the jet hot on my Formula Firebird car headers and it works too. I will some day get the headers on the Z done too. But heat is not a problem any more. It would be to get rid of the wrapping, and make them last. If you coat something, besure you demand inside besides outside. heat shield.bmp

You Bloody Californians
Hey 1 Bravo 6, Thanks for noticing something nice from So. Cal. All the people donate their time on these things. I once helped work on a float when I was a teen- as a good excuse to get out of the house. Party on the way & party on the way home! Now I'm an old dude, and we just look for the type of float Cindys work has, City of Hope Hospital. This year it was pretty good. This is one day I can be a couch potatoe in my boxers and ya know what they say "No worries mate!" Then later on in the day I go out in the garage and sit and look at the Z! But that is normal for all of us here, Right! :classic:

Dash Cap
I wasn't interested in the "restore-factor" so used the dash cap in 2 cars and looked just fine for the money, also wasn't wavey either. But ya know I don't leave mine in the sun much... so?

Some general thoughts/observations on driving z cars
And that my friend is a Z-RUSH, to walk away from a Vette or an F-body car in the turns!

These aren't car modles but they are working RC models. Something that TomoHawk is very good at too!

There are 2 ways I know of to go blind, and the second way is building models. The steady hands come in once the kids are in bed and Cindy is at work, then I go into my own world of late night building! If I want to do something bad enough I'll figure away to do it. Only 1/4 of the cars are models, but most of the others are the 1:24 diecasts that the whole family has collected of the years. It is Cindys idea to plaster the house with this kind of stuff. I don't mind one bit - never too old to play and have FUN!

Oh yea, Zs-ondabrain, we found that Muscle Machines 1/64 green Z and also the white one too at Wall fart. We picked up the nice looking 350Z too. I would have prefered the earlier Zs with out the flaired fenders, but oh well.

Now you guys have gotten me motivated to do the Z soon. Don't want to bore you all, but here's another pic.

This is my second time consuming hobby. I love the cars 2Many and Kyteler. Funny thing, I too just picked up a 71-240Z model to put together. I normally do NASCAR stuff, but was going to chop up this model to duplicate our real one in the garage. I have to be in the mood to build because when I start I can't stop! About 80 to 90 hrs. per car. Here are some of the Nascar models sitting around the house.

VARA University - Driving School
Would love to go! But we are saving up the pennys to hit a NASA HPDE at Infineon in a few months. We have always wanted to drive that track, so we are getting ready for it. Still getting our act together in the Open Track & HPDE and learning what this car needs, but isn't Vara all racing? We have a friend in VARA that invited us up to the Big Bore Bash at Willow Springs in Nov. and we had a blast with the Vara people. You might know him? Dr. Morty Dunst, he drives a Triumph- Red #25. Is the VARA going to require a "head & neck" restraint device in 2004? What is the scoop on requirements of physicals, membership fees and class fees, 3 layer driving suits, also any discounts for 2 people sharing a car? These are concerns that make or break us from participating a Vara event. Will you be attending the Vara Tech Day at Irwindale raceway coming up? Talk to ya later. Craig

My first ever drive in my Z
I figured that, shooting Revs and stuff. I remember in High School I was in Dads truck, in front of the school and at about 25 mph threw it in neutral to give a rev., only I went past N and into Reverse and then punched it! After slamming up against the steering wheel and smokin the tires in reverse, I got it back to D and said WTF! was that all about! and just keep going on my way like I knew what I was doing! My first ride was when I bought my first Z, a lowered 72 with dual webers. No test drive (go figure?) but the guy said it wasn't running too good. I could hardly keep it running, so on the freeway I pulled over and looked at the carbs, and he had the fuel of one carb completely shut off, so after a guestimation of opening back up, jumped back in and just blew home with the biggest cheese eating grin on my face, and I was then Z bug bitten!

Jet Hot....
My Z is wrapped and it works okay. If I get into removing the headers someday I will use Jet Hot again. The car is not a street car so it doesn't see any water, and the wrap does look bad. I have Jet Hot coated hookers on my Formula Firebird and it works twice as good as the wrapped Z headers. It's amazing how much cooler they are with it! And yep, looks are great. If you email them or call them, they will send ya a short info video. Good Luck Craig
