Vintage Races in Las Vegas
I believe it is right on the front page as it opens up to the VARA site. Jeff Saltman Memorial Presented by Bounty Hunter, October 14-15, 2006. Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Vara puts on a great show, you won't be disappointed! Wish we had it in the plans. Got ACRA Oct. 11, Nasa Nov. 11-12, then OTR Nov. 15th, new tires, air dam, mirrors, head light covers, geez we're going broke..... but having fun doing it! John, did you get you Z together or are you running the Spitfire? Sounds like it is going to be one of those events to remember! Good Luck! Craig

a long time comming
Matt, We were surprized with the results of the 2nd trip to the dyno too. http://www.vangordonracing.com/Pages/VandBperformancedyno.html We were actually looking for a 5800 to 6000rpm miss and had those results with the miss. Since then we have smoothed out the miss, but doubt there is much more power left it this thing. We went with the L24 since that is what the 2 motors were when we found this car and didn't have much more money to make the next step. But.... perhaps after the first of the year we will try to get a L28 together. We have been making notes and talking about it recently. No matter how fast or how much power your motor may have, there is always another faster! For me I don't have the time or money to constantly doing tear down, rebuild and maintance on a real race motor. There is 2 of us putting double time on this car, so we have to take that into mind when planning for up grades & parts for the car. I sure like Marty Rogans idea of that L28 Jasper motor he recently put in his car. The motor notes are from an old word doc. that I was making years ago and copy & paste it to make typing easier. There are some changes that I have not yet made and need to update. Yes, the E3100, actually the correct part # 11041-E3100 (I think) or also called the E31 head. Another 240 head is the E88 or 11041-E8803, a 280 head N42 13201-N4200 and so on. The cam grind is the L-480 by Iskendarian, and no not stock springs... I believe they were Schnieder. Increase spring pressure helps prevent valves from floating or staying open with the higher lift, and hopefully enough to help them close before the piston has a chance to slap em at the higher rpms. If high revs is what your motor sees, then yes should be in the plans of your motor build up. WSIR is up the 14fwy Palmdale / Lancaster, Rosamond exit west. It is about a 2 hr. drive for us from Chino, with truck/camper pulling a trailer. http://www.willowspringsraceway.com/visitorinformation/directions.asp I'm not a Z tech & spec type person and don't enjoy knowing all the little details about the car and it's history. Just enough to keep it running hard, looking good and to enjoy once or twice a month at the track. I do like the fact that these cars bring smiles to alot of people when they remember once owning a Z and that they are still on the road & tracks today. Craig

a long time comming
I grew up in Upland, married in Cucamonga, 1st home in Ontario, 2nd and LAST home in Chino. So I think you know the area well then. Inland Empire is still growing like crazy and farther East too. The housing & development helps keep my work busy building electrical control systems for well pump stations for all the thirsty people in the new areas. Actually I avoid the city areas and it's head aches as much as possible. Just 3 places to be Home, Work (Colton) and the tracks, sometimes at San Clemente beach to escape this whole mess!

a long time comming
Hi Matt, If I remember right (my wife usually take the gas cans and fills them there) I believe it is Citrus Ave. South side of the 10fwy. 76 Station there has a pump there with 100 octane, lots of muscle cars buy from there. About a year ago I got spooked when I pumped some into a glass bottle to check it and it wasn't what I expected. So for a while I was getting VP-101 from a Shell station off of White Ave & Arrow Hwy near the Fair Grounds. Couple weeks ago, Cindy purchase it from 76 again to see how it does it is okay, but was $6.60 a gallon. VP fuel at Willow Springs Track in Palmdale it is only $6.00 gal. and they just put in new pumps too, so we just wait and get it there. Many here think it is a waste, and so do I for street, and maybe even track. We choose to use it cause it burns so clean, the motor likes it especially when it is hot, it is really nice to read the plugs after a session on the track when tuning the SUs, and if you spill any it evaporates clean no stain, no mess and not smelly. Actually it's oder is easier to live with... brings on flash backs of a hot lap! What kind of motor.... (deep breath) okay here we go... Sure that counts! School in Claremont, there are some nice schools there, one is quit expensive...Havey Mudd University... it's got some nice area around the school with preppy little coffee shops, cafes, places where people eat stuff like salads, sticks & bird seed (healthy food ya know). But nice to be in the Claremont area.

... Covina, West Covina, and Fontana for a while, even Pomona, Upland, and La Verne.... geez, you ARE local! hey there is a house around the corner for sale here in Chino, so you can add it to your list. Yep there are a couple of us close by. Covina, sometimes we stop in at that 76 gas station off the 10fwy and get that 100 octane gas for the car. Except they don't have that Cool Blue fuel anymore... something fruity now. Anyways, i'm sure sometime we all could meet up. Except can't really go far with the race car on the street... Good to see another Z with in distance. Craig

Racing in SoCal AREA
Why do some take their classic Z car to a local track? We feel that Operntrackracing’s mission statement explains it well... You've got the car. Whether it's American muscle, Asian attitude or some miracle of European engineering, you've chosen your ride and maybe even taken things a few steps further. More power, better suspension, massive brakes -- whatever the recipe you've chosen, it's produced the kind of car that could get you into some really good trouble. What do you do now? Parking lot burnouts and traffic signal hole shots get old quick. You want to see what your car can do, but body work is expensive, and maybe the points are adding up on your driving record. Public roads just aren't the right place for high-performance driving. And while you've maybe tweaked every part of the car, now, the most important component has been left unmodified -- the driver. Open Track Racing gets you out on the race track. Whether your car is stock, modified, or a dedicated track car that needs tuning, OTR gives you a safe place to let all those horses loose. Open Track Racing brings drivers to Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, California, where you'll be able to legally to take your car up to as much as 150 mph on a 9-turn, 2.5-mile road course. Open Track Racing limits the number of cars at each event in order to maximize track time and driver safety. OTR furnishes corner and flag workers, starters, insurance, track clean-up, and highly-trained medical personnel. Open Track Racing is not wheel to wheel racing. Our events are designed to improve your driving and car control skills -- to bridge the gap between the driver's capabilities and the car's. All types of vehicles are allowed, from stock to wildly modified, and run groups are divided so that you're sharing the track with cars running similar lap times. You'll never get to see what your car is capable of if you don't take it out to where it can run at full throttle. And you'll never get to see what you're capable of as a driver until you throw yourself through the high speed corners of Willow Springs, a track with one of the highest average speeds of any race facility in North America. Open Track Racing offers the most track time, in a safe environment, with experienced instructors and other drivers who share your belief that things don't get really interesting until your speedometer is showing triple digits. ....just passing on the experience! Sept. 9th & 10th, for more info check it out. www.opentrackracing.com

New to the forum from Lompoc, CA
Perhaps that is an advantage of a dry sump system, keeps good pressure? We had that oil pressure dropping problem after a 1/2 hour run using multi-grade oil. Especially when the car switched drivers and went back out for another 1/2 hour, and so on all day long. After we installed the oil cooler and went to Redline Racing 40, it has been steady good pressure and the temp doesn't go above 220. Yep 10 qts. of that stuff gets my wallets attention. I'm actually concerned of not warming the oil enough on a cool morning and having too high of pressure! Currently using the MSA 4 row radiator and the water temp sits at 180 mid summer. We kick on the electric fan once back to the pits.

240z slot car!
Couple times a year we set up the family slot car track and last Saturday we got it out again for my son. The track is the analog type by Ninco, great stick with the texture. I saw last week some of the new digital track and cars but not so sure the system has be de-bugged yet? Family members have a few favorite cars each, they are various types from Scalextric, Ninco & SCX. Still need to find a classic Z race car for the collection.
