Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
Everything is original. The ball joints and tie rods are leaking, the bellows are torn, and the shocks are blown. Im worried about adjusting the tie rods. I don’t necessarily know how to do it.

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
I was able to get to quite a few things in the Z this weekend. I measured the temperature while the Z is running and it’s At the right temperature. Thank you for the advice fellas. I was working on the suspension this weekend as well. My ball joints are oozing out so I want to replace them. I saw a ball joint for sale on eBay. It says “it’s nongreasable”. Does this mean that it’s filled with grease already? I was going to get the moog ball joint but I don’t know if this is greased as well.

Inconsistent High Idle
You were right. Since they were able to fix the vacuum leaks, the Z is running better. I had to back off the idle quite a bit. It’s running much smoother now! Thank you!

Inconsistent High Idle
Hi everyone, I just had the timing and valve adjustment done to my 1977 280z. I don't know if there's any correlation but my idle has been very inconsistent. Normally, my idle is at a consistent 1100 RPM but lately it's been all over the place. Half of the time it's at 1100 RPM but sometimes it's at 1500-2000 RPM. If I rev the engine on neutral and let off the gas, it sometimes lowers to only 2000 RPM. There was a vacuum leak that the shop fixed when they did the timing and valve adjustment. What could this issue be?

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
Hi Everyone, I recently just did the valve adjustment and tinning adjustment and the car is running so much better! I did notice that the Z is consistently running past the halfway point these days. It stays exactly around where the needle is on the photo. The radiator has no leaks. Is it time to replace the radiator?

Thank you for this. I was wondering if I’d be able to removing the 4 windows myself? Then maybe I could just hire an auto glass company to install back once the paint job is complete. Do they sell the rubber molding for all 4 windows? One quote i got said they'll sand it down to the original coat and If it looks good, they’ll prep and epoxy it. Then they’ll be using PPG Omni Plus basecoat and Spi universal clear.

I found out that the hazard switch was disconnected and some wires were disconnected as well. Cleaned and connect everything. Waiting on a fusible link through the mail.

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
Hi everyone, i will I’ll be getting my 280z within the next two months. I’m a bit unfamiliar of the steps I should take with getting the Z painted so forgive all the questions. - Should I remove all the rubber trim pieces before dropping it off at the body shop? - Does removing the quarter panel windows and front/rear windshield produce better results than lifting the molding and painting under it? - The Z has been repainted once in the past. Most of the shops just recommended sanding down a layer instead of sanding it down to the bare metal. Should this be okay? - Does you guys have any general tips on getting a Z painted? I haven’t had a car completely repainted before. -Do you have any recommendations for chrome side view mirrors to be mounted on the doors?

280z won’t start
Thanks for the replies guys. It's a 1977. I replaced the battery with a new one. I also cleaned the T plug with contact cleaner and a file. Everything seems to be working just fine. I thought it was just strange that the old battery wouldn't start after 20 minutes of driving.

280z won’t start
I started the Z this morning and noticed it was a bit weak when firing it up but it ended up starting. I drove for about 20 minutes and pulled into my garage. After about 2 minutes, I tried to start the car but it won’t start. I was trying to figure out what the issue could be because I just had gotten back from a drive. Wouldn’t that have charged the battery? The battery is about 3 years old. It’s showing 12v on the battery gauge in the Z. The charge light is off on the “on” position.

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
I have KYB shocks and Eibach springs coming in on Friday! I'm looking forward to installing these because the ride in the Z has been pretty floaty. I'm thinking that this might be a good time to install new bushings as well. Is there anything else you guys recommend on replacing/fixing while I am working on the suspension? I wanted to get your guys' opinion on tire size. I was reading around the internet to see what would be a good tire size for Konig Rewinds in 15 inches for a 280z lowered on Eibach springs. I am not putting fender flares but would like the tires to be somewhat wide but not past the fender. What tire size do you guys recommend? I was thinking 215/60/15 if this would fit with a slightly lowered Z. Thank you guys.

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
Hi everyone, i installed led the newly cleaned gas tank and so far there’s no rust showing up at the Fram clear filter. I got the Fuel Gauge to work! The only issue now is that it’s giving an inaccurate reading. It’s showing half empty when the tank is completely full.

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
Today I dropped my fuel tank to be cleaned by my local radiator shop. The tank had a bit of rust. What would be good to use to replace the rubber liner that goes between the fuel tank straps and fuel tank?

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
No I didn’t fix it yet. I’ll definitely getting to it this month. I been meaning to ask what this crack near the passenger side quarter panel could be. The driver’s side is slightly raised (middle photo). Is this frame damage or rust? Can it be fixed? Today I fixed a leak! The transmission leak was caused by the mechanic not tightening the drain bolt?

Picking up a 1977 280z 6 Hours Away. Tips?
I want to get the 280z painted soon. I was considering removing the 280z bumpers completely and have the shop close the holes or replace it with 240z bumpers. Do the 280z bumpers help at all with protection in a collision? I'd like to be sure that I'm not compromising the little safety the Z offers.

Rough Idle?
I noticed that my 77 Z is idling a bit rough. It used to idle at around 1100rpm but usually floats around 900rpm. The air come from the exhaust isn’t steady when idling. It feels as if air is coming through and pauses every second or so. i have uploaded a video to try to document my issue. 19058449-ED28-4FE2-8D00-807C5F322FA5.MOV
