    That wasn't aimed at you!

I stand by my previous post.

I didn't notice the dash cap either! The hood is not the early style, but is this car early enough to have sported one when new? It is late enough to have sound tar on the rear deck. The tail light interior cover has the service panels, actually a very desirable feature IMO. Correct original spare tire. AMCO floor mats.

There are a couple of "experts" in the comment section pointing out incorrectness issues with the car and arguing over their expertness mojo. I'm glad they are not here. Lovely car, very well prepared.

Looking real good, Kats. I like the fat seats!
  7. 26th-Z posted a post in a topic in 432 & 432-R
Why do you think the seats have been reversed, Blue? Or are you insinuating that they are originally like this?
  8. http://www.mikunipower.com/PHH01.htm Part # N101,083 Should be able to buy them directly from Mikuni?

    Love the ash tray stands.

That looks like authentic hyde of Nauga, distressed texture, on concrete. It is used for upholstery and not a proper material for a shop floor!

Yes, I have those pictures of Detroit. Compare the display design with other show photos you have and you will see the common traveling stage set-up and graphics for 1969. That changed for 1970 when Datsun USA won "The most beautiful exhibit" award at the Los Angeles show. It is difficult to see, but the New York show in April had that same 'tea garden' theme. exhibit.

Kats, That photo matches closely with the "Nissan News" photo of the Beverly Hilton event. So it was silver! Also, from Datsun Dealer Bulletin NS-69-008, Dated October 16, 1969, Robert O. Link; Auto Shows scheduled; Boston October 25 - November 1, 1969 Los Angeles October 31 - November 9, 1969 San Francisco November 4 - 9, 1969 Detroit November 15 - 23, 1969 That's a great photo, thanks!

I have pictures but I don't own them and I don't have permission to post them. Of course, the pictures are B&W so the color is up to interpretation. The Pierre car is dark and the Beverly Hilton car is light. See if you can find a copy of "Nissan News" from the fall of 1969. It has pictures of the Beverly Hilton car, page 8. Personally, I think the Pierre car is racing green with a tan interior but I'm biased in that direction. Here's a picture of the ballroom at the Pierre to give you an idea of the scale of that event. Evidently, it wasn't just the introduction of the Z. It was a display of the entire Datsun line-up for 1970, and, oh-by-the-way, "we're adding this personal sports car to our product line which will boost sales of all the fine Datsun products and generate increased showroom traffic".
  14. Somewhere between $18,200 and $38,300 according to Hagerty.

For the record, the LA show was the 23rd and it was at the Beverly Hilton. It was not the same color as the car at the Pierre and it could very well have been 920 Safari Gold. Now you know, Blue. Please stop quoting Carl's accounting. It is wrong.

Alan, Mike, once I get home tonight, do either of you have any objections to my sharing our conversations? Including the press bibliography?
  17. 26th-Z posted a post in a topic in History
I'm so sorry that I don't have my files with me at work today. MikeB, Alan, and I have discussed the living daylights out of this topic. One thing I DO want to mention is that Carl's accounting is not accurate. As I recollect without the advantage of my notes is that; the cars shown in New York and California are not the same, Carl has the Beverly hotel name wrong, the reporters did not all come from Detroit...need I go on? Alan, Mike, don't you still have all of our correspondence? Blue, you can easily find pictures in the press release as well as the Nissan corporate quarterly report.

That was a fun conversation. too. Lots of fun people and a fairly diverse number of topics. Pete Evanow wrote in a couple of times!
  19. Now they're obsessing over the undercoating that was sprayed on the car.
  20. Delivered? Where and to whom? Perhaps you mean delivered to the Tokyo auto show or the Pierre Hotel? Delivered to Yutaka Katayama!
  21. Doesn't it have a replacement engine? I think the original engine comes with the car? Of course, it ran when parked.... The front of the radiator support should be black - brush painted.

Awe, come-on! How about doing the repair properly and NOT being one of those POs we diss quite often! A rubber expansion type of freeze plug is only a temporary repair. This is precisely what this community wishes to discourage. Sorry, hon, your head is damaged and it's going to have to come off to repair it properly as the manufacturer intended. Otherwise, it's just a hack repair. Besides, once you get the head off, you'll be able to perform a lot more maintenance that the head probably needs. You get to work on your car more. You won't scratch your firewall any more than you probably already have. And you'll probably learn something. Be brave, fix it right!

Then how do you plan to re-install the new plug?
  24. High compression engine...fuel could cause the problem, carburation could cause the problem, hot spots could cause the problem, but I would look at the timing. Run-on is more often a timing problem, especially if the fuel is low octane for the high compression. Check your spark plugs also. They may be too hot?
  25. Ahhh... Inspection Lamp 26740-89904. Listed as optional in the North American parts catalog, it shows standard in the Nissan Fairlady Z catalog and optional for the 'dx' version/model. The bulb is 12v 8w (26232-30000) and the switch is 26745-89900. There are two versions of the mounting base; one with a slotted flange and another with two mounting holes like this one. I believe this version precedes the version with the slot. Very nice!
