  1. Thanks for the voice of confidence Zed Head! Of course, I don't know a damned thing and you should overlook whatever I post. I gave you the source, publishing date and page number! What more do you want? Perhaps all you want to do is argue? BTW, thank you again, Alan, for my copy of "Car Graphic".
  2. That image comes from the February 1970 issue of "Car Graphic" magazine, a Japanese publication, page 58 of an extensive article on the design and prototype development of the S30. We have seen many images scanned from that article. The picture is attributed to the development stage of July / August, 1969 (prototype P6 and P7).
  3. Hey, congratulations! Look forward to talking with you about the car.
  4. From my 1972 Fairlady Z parts catalog, models including S30, HS30, and PS30: 76807-E4100 Ornament rear quarter RH 76808-E4100 Ornament rear quarter LH The E4100 indicates the initial or "earliest" application however I don't see why there would be a distinction between left and right hand installation if it was not vented? A later part number E8200 is listed with a specification of "from chassis # S30-04551 and PS30-00401".
  5. This is a really good article about the Scarabs http://datsunforum.com/the-scarab-legend-the-original-hybrid-datsun-z/ And this one from our site This discussion is also good http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/30344-scarab-z/ I think all the Brian Morrow / Scarab Engineering produced cars were 327 Chevy engines. However, as you can see, conversion kits were available thus allowing the 'opportunity' to install a Ford engine. Somewhere I read that only the Scarab Engineering produced cars had the peculiar valve covers and quarter panel emblem.
  6. Seriesously!? A series 1 car with a fan shroud? And electric fans? Seriesously?
  7. I don't think the rust is awful but there is a lot of work to do. I see this car as comparable to my projects, 26th and 27th. I'm marveling at the bent floors. Wow! I wonder if I could ask the guy on BAT to contact me here? I'm 26th-Z on BAT. This car is being discussed on Bookfaced from Datsun Parts and Needs. Big comments on the value of low VIN cars. I think I'm going to be surprised with the bid on 187th. There's only so much room on the purchase price vs. the restoration costs and value afterwards. I still think I'm on track with escalating values to have two cars worth what I have in them, but we'll see. Either way, a restoration on a car like 187th is going to be big bucks.
  8. Did you notice that the choke knob is broken? All this fuss about the hand throttle .... Somebody posted a comment on BAT and I want to correspond with the guy. How do you contact a member?
  9. Yes, Bridgestone made in Japan 175 SR 14 radial
  10. Nope, no tool bins on an early car. The jack tools, evidently, have never been used. Looks like they are still in the original bag. Man! the underside is bashed!
  11. I'm copying the pictures. Lots of original stuff to talk about. The hood is a shame. That's an original hood and unique from all the rest. Kats did a big expose' on early hood fabrication and the differences.
  12. I glanced at the pictures quickly and came away with the opinion that this is a good original example. I saw a lot of correct unique parts. How do I see what the current bid is? Oh, and the blurb about the hand throttle in the owner's manual is correct. The original manuals had a blank paste-over.
  13. "The Stainless Steel Carrot" by Sylvia Wilkinson.
  14. I think if you study the story of the Ford GT40, you will find that nothing was "easy" and that the true heroes of the Ford GT40 story were John Wyer Automotive, not Ford. I recommend John Horseman's book; "Racing in the Rain". Ronnie Spain's; "GT40, Individual History and Race Record" is also great if not a little outdated. "By Brooks Too Broad for Leaping", by Denise McCluggage is superb. How about "Cannonball" by Brock Yates or "Sunday Driver"? I recently read Brian Redman's book; "Daring Drivers Deadly Tracks". Excellent. Last March I saw John Fitzpatrick at Sebring and bought his new book; "My Life at the Wheel".
  15. "Correct" would be body color over a lightly textured undercoating, I believe.
  16. Nice looking car, Arny. The engine is blue because that's what color engines are. If the visor is signed, Arny, chances are that the car was at a ZCCA convention. I have a Matsuo signed visor from 2004.

What chassis # is the GTP?
  18. Oh, I'm not complaining. I'm just amazed.
  19. Just amazing. I used to buy those things for $25.
  20. Point well taken, Alan. Nissan has one hell of a race record in the U.S. which promotes the impression of dominance. What is interesting about your point is that manufacturers that might dominate on a global scale don't necessarily dominate in North America. And vice-versa.
  21. Tomo, Scanning a published book and posting it to the internet is a clear violation of federal copyright law.
