71 D style hubcap
I want to point out to you that there are two types of wheel cover so that you don't mistakenly buy a mismatching one. The spacing and number of wheel grips on the back are different and they reflect the location of the valve stem hole. Either between the spokes or centered on a spoke. It looks like your valve stem hole is between the spoke. Good luck in your hunt!

WTB Genuine Nissan Spark Plug Removal Tool
Isn't that interesting to have the list of tools document!? I don't recall ever seeing one of those. The crescent wrench is still in the bag! Fabulous! We have had discussions in the past about the tools. I finally found my picture collection, probably all from the archives but I can't find the threads! Oh bother! I wish I could tell you more but these pictures should give you an idea of what you may encounter.

WTB Genuine Nissan Spark Plug Removal Tool
jerz, Finding authentic tools is going to be a task. All cars came with the tire changing tools from your top list (which later included a spare set of four lug nuts). If you look at your part listings you will note that the rest are"op" optional and I am not aware that they were ever part of the basic kit. I know several people who collect them and your quest is admirable. Please share pictures of what you find. I collect dealer service tools. I have two boxes and a number of tools.

Fuel filler size differences?
Just a thought; the fuel filler hose is different for the 2+2 models. I wonder if these are the only hoses still available.

You guys are still at it!?! A whole-nother page worth! Alan, you gotta quit baiting these....ah...intellectuals. You have their panties all in a wad!

1970 Z432 For Sale - California
You may have a point, Zed Head, particularly with respect to implied generalities, i.e. name-calling. But the reaction holds the indications you describe. Someone got their button pushed, don't you think? The post delete suggestion is an attack on free speech plain and simple. That deplorable suggestion is the sort of thing that is fatal to a forum like this. I'm guilty of many crimes, but I have never silenced someone.

1970 Z432 For Sale - California
Here, here to your reply to grabmyknot, Alan! For what price does ignorance offer the world of opinion? Shutter my word, I beseech thee, as I regret that I have but only one brake caliper to give for my Z! I was hoping that we might have an intellectual conversation about the cross-flow headed monster. I am so disappointed to read the remarks of disdain. Yes, in fact, the PS30 does outperform the S30 to which it would be properly (intelligently) compared. It outperforms the HLS30 without having to be breathed on, and, the marque has racing provenance not equitably shared by the 240Z. Finally, I completely disagree with the opinion that the basic car is worth only $20,000.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Kats Yes, I have the early crankshaft with six counter weights. My engine numbers are L24-2338 (26th-Z) and L24-2162 (27th-Z). Service bulletin TS70-28 (August 1970) indicates that beginning with engine number L24-3607, eight counterweights were used. My engines also have three different lengths of cylinder head bolts as described in service bulletin TS70-15 (April, 1970) which indicates that from engine number L24-04257, two lengths of cylinder head bolts were used. I was lucky enough to find the three different lengths when I rebuilt the engine. One spot weld appears to be deeper than the other. Perhaps the spot weld machine was not working properly or it did not stay in contact long enough.

Genuine Datsun 240z JDM/Euro Spoiler
Greetings jerz, surprisingly wonderful response. Your scan of the parts manual invited me to look in mine. This may be the thread you refer; My North American Export Parts Catalog (HLS30 - USA and Canada) reveals 4 results for a rear spoiler; 98100-E4600, E4601, N3300 and N3525.

Genuine Datsun 240z JDM/Euro Spoiler
No takers on this subject, eh? Try bre2.net or classicdatsun.com You may have to contact Peter or Les to find out if their spoilers have the raised area for the emblems. I'll bet the BRE "original style" spoiler has it.

radiator
Well, your name is Mud, isn't it? Where in my sentence is there any mention of you personally? Look, zhead240 has a really nice car that he paid a lot of money for. Would you like it if your mechanic repaired your nice car the way you suggested? Chill out, dude. Drink a beer and enjoy your ride.

radiator
Yes, just pull the radiator out and take it to a radiator shop. Normal maintenance and repair. Don't butcher up your lovely car with a replacement 3-row with a shroud. Or, JB Weld? What on earth are you thinking?

Type "B" Transmission Production Dates
mj, The link doesn't tell you very much and the PDF doesn't open. The Nissan Model S30 Parts Catalog for USA and Canada lists the F4W71a (with final drive 3.364) 32010-E4650 up to 8/71. The F4W71b - 32010-E8850 replaces the a type from 9/71. Then, two transmission listings, 32010-E8851 and E8852 also noted as F4W71b are noted up to 6/72 They also have a 3.364 final drive. From 7/72, the F4W71B 32010-N3300 was installed.

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Ha! That is so like you to collect parts that you will probably never need! If you ever get the opportunity, I would like to know how well it is balanced. When I rebuilt the engine for 26th, I had the crankshaft, flywheel, and front pulley balanced together. I do not know the specs but the machinist told me that I would enjoy the balancing work and that the crankshaft was much better.

What are you going to do with the crankshaft, Kats?

Hood/inspection hatches allowing water in
Dave, There are formed gutters in the fenders for the hood and inspection lid areas to naturally drain rainwater and there is no weather stripping other than the cowl. Yes, reasonably expect water to make its way into the engine bay area.

Early 240Z lower door hinge
Swampfox, From your description, I would say that you have the early hinge and those arms can rust badly. Post some pictures. I looked but can't seem to find digital images of my hinges. I may have them on film but the the comments are pretty much correct. You shouldn't have rollers or detentes. I would encourage you to repair your hinges.

Are these original to a 2/71 240Z?
Quick answer: no, no and no. The muffler looks like a 280Z type but it could be aftermarket. AN original stock muffler was round. The gearshift knob is aftermarket possibly AMCO part #99990-00005 which would have been an authorized accessory for the 1972 model year cars. The window decal is something you would find in a tourist store. This page from Carl Beck's site will help you with your 2/71 "crossover" car. http://zhome.com/History/New71Late.htm which means that you may have a mixture of early and later parts.

Fun Parts and Identification Help Needed for HLS30-00249
Blue, Gas cap 17251-E4101 does not come with a chain. Looks like that's what you have. I had a look at the rubber grommet on #27 last night. I don't know what your grommet is from. Don't throw it away. We may figure it out some one of these days. I have a question about #48 that you may know. Is #48 a HLS30U that was converted to a HLS30UN when it was restored? I think it was.

Reference 1970 Grapefruit Alternator Pictures
I had mine rebuilt some years ago - took these pictures when they came back from the shop. The symbol on the castings is Hitachi. The metal bands between the front and rear castings is supposed to be a dark green. The shop painted the fan and pulley but the fan is supposed to be plated. Kats has beautifully restored pictures on his web site, but I see that it is down at the moment. I'm a little confused at the moment about the capacity of the alternator. 40amp? 45amp? I would have to do some research. Blue engine paint overspray is common / original.

Fun Parts and Identification Help Needed for HLS30-00249
Blue, I didn't mean to sound rude. Don't take it that way. Thanks for the great photo of the grommet. I don't know what you have if it doesn't have the firewall lips and I wondered about the "no through-holes" comment. There is another thread circulating about speedometer cables you may want to check out. Console face plate is correct. There is a thread in the archives with a fascinatingly rude argument about what color it is supposed to be. Check out the single groove harmonic balancer! There is a thread about fuel pumps in the archives. These pictures are mine - the difference between old and new castings. I won't guarantee that the old one is authentic 1969.

Fun Parts and Identification Help Needed for HLS30-00249
Well, unless I'm mistaken, that's a part you won't see very often because one of the parts it is made for has been replaced also. In all probability, you don't have that part either and the replacement doesn't fit that rubber grommet. No need to send it to 240Zrubbers because it is already reproduced. $40 You say it has no through-holes? What size is it? Take a picture of it with something that will show us size and scale. So let me ask you. The stuff 240Zrubbers sells is pretty expensive. Are you ready to spend that kind of money on a "proper" restoration? The S30 type Datsun was thoroughly tested and developed before any cars were manufactured and sold. It certainly was consistently developed and improved, over a number of years, but it would be inappropriate to say that "prototype" parts were initially used because the "production" components weren't delivered in time. What came on the early cars is what was intended. A lot of people claim a lot of things, but I have found over the years that if you haven't researched, if you haven't read everything you can get your hands on, if you don't speak Japanese (or know someone who does), you don't really know a lot about these cars. These are not American cars built exclusively for the American market (like many, many claim and I have heard some whoppers); these cars are Japanese imports.

Fun Parts and Identification Help Needed for HLS30-00249
Let me say something here and try to help you out with your ideas about things. There is no such thing as "series 1, series 2", etc. That is American market nomenclature for differences between model years and an attempt to label Japanese production methods equitably with the American automotive manufacturer's methods we're familiar with. It just doesn't work that way. What you may call "prototype" was production at the time. Prototypes were not sold, exported, delivered, what ever. Certainly there were parts that came with the very early cars that were almost immediately superseded by something similar but really all you can say is; "oh look! This part is manufactured differently". There isn't any rhyme or reason to what part went on what car and you certainly can't attach a certain "up to serial number" label other than what appears in Nissan documentation. And even then you are going to find anomalies.
