  1. Great pictures! 1974 would have been very, very early in the history of IMSA. Thanks for another shot of the OMS pace car. Wouldn't it be fun to find one of those cars!
  2. All Right ! ! ! Congratulations!
  3. Ha, Mike! Mr. K's birthday was September 14th, I think. He is 103? or did he just turn 104?
  4. Ahhh...that guy! I wasn't a judge at that convention. Thanks for the pics! That was a fun convention!
  5. To the best of my research, Dale Ishimoto was hired as part of the 'Dream Garage' commercial program which included the Z restoration program (Vintage Z), Z-Store, and Birth of a Legend campaigns. Here they are together, Mr. K and Dale Ishimoto, at the Vintage Z Rally in Carson, California; May 1997.
  6. Hey Dan, Was that the '04 convention?! That's when I met him. Time flies! Feeling kind of sorry for myself for not making it out there. I haven't spent much time in that area of the country and want to. Probably the thing I enjoy the most about conventions is the 'local flavor'. From everything I hear, the convention is going very well. Have fun! Chris
  7. Hey hey Kats! Good to hear from you! Your car looks great - as usual! I have left and right speaker brackets for my 8-track stereo. That is not exactly 'stock' for 26th-Z. She originally had only one speaker with the radio. My speakers are not original. I like the new floor also. It looks like new! Chris
  8. Hey! Matsuo san is there! Great! Spend some time talking with him. He's great!
  9. Didn't you say you had a steering wheel release? Sounds perfect to me. Turn your wheels to the curb before you take the steering wheel off.
  10. An interesting suggestion, Travel'n. Nothing inexpensive about it at all yet very tastefully done. The car tire sits on the lower leg so that you can't tip it over. Of course it sits close to the car obstructing at least that area of the car. I have always considered those 'easels' to encourage people to stand back from the car by their positioning. Tomo, that may be good for your car! Ya'know, the five foot rule!
  11. Yep. You need to know what your cylinder pressures are - cylinders 1 through 6. It's 'skipping'? All the time or just intermitenly?
  12. Oh! You might want to dust off the printed side with baby powder or talcum powder so that the printing ink doesn't bond to the lexan face.
  13. Tomo, you're right. If you try to put the vinyl behind the lexan, the adhesive will show. Have your vinyl dry-mounted to 1/4" foam core board and clip the board to your stand with office supply binder clips. You may want to remove one of the clip handles, the front facing one, and use enough clips, evenly spaced, to keep the foam core board secure. Or Dry mount your vinyl to 1/8" masonite or sealed stain-grade 1/8" plywood and through-bolt the panel to the lexan with evenly spaced cap screws or black anodized hex bolts or some other fancy hardware you can think of. If you use screws, make sure that all the screw slots align perpendicular to the lexan edge. With hex bolts, the alignment is less noticable.
  14. The main sympton of a burnt valve is the cylinder isn't firing and / or smoke is coming out of the exhaust. Upon inspection the compression value is either very low or there is no compression. One could suspect piston ring failure but that would make noise and you would hear it. Either way, it's time for the head to come off.

    Stickers

Nice collection! I want to point out that there are two variants of the Ok sticker and I'm not certain of the origins of either. There may be a thread on the subject in the archives. The discrepancy is between the margin justification of the "Yokohama Japan". One is justified left to align with the "Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.". The other is indented. Sorry, posted the same picture twice - can't figure out how to delete a picture?!!??
  16. You are in the UK, Jason, which I would imagine makes parts like these more difficult to come by. The trim rings, even without the lenses, would be valuable for the hardware alone! Lenses can be made - worst case. I say buy the pieces and I could imagine $250 a very fair price.
  17. I'm going to suggest that the 'creaking' is not coming from the chassis. Take all the interior finish panels out (which may involve buying those danged rivets) and reinstall them with a caulk / pad / sealant at the attachment points and the seams. My experience has been that those old plastic interior panels move, rattle, and creak. Give them some padding and I'll bet your car will be a lot quieter.
  18. And that's the left-handed version. The RHD version comes with a lighter!
  19. Read about electrolytic rust removal. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread16506.html I understand the comments about acid dipping your car and I agree. Acid dipping is not a good idea.
  20. Reading back through earlier posts... A couple of comments were made about paint and I thought I would post this picture from Cleveland 2008. Original paint - can you see the amount of orange peel in the reflection of...can you guess who those guys are? On the other hand, you wouldn't necessarily get dinked if your paint was mirror flawless. I have seen it go both ways. The ZCCA does not have a recorded data-base of information for the stock classes, I agree. I know a lot of judges who have private collections. I do. But wouldn't it be nice to see a collection resource. For instance, I just saw a 1971 Datsun Canada accessories brochure. Up until now, I had always thought that there were no 'factory' accessories until the 1972 model year. (I'm speaking exclusively about HLS30 imports here) And even the issue with accessories in 1972 is arguable. The ZCCA does have a resource file for judges and their experience, but it really boils down to who shows up at a convention. Will, you mean "Street Modified" class with an original L-series engine. I have said this so many times and I'll say it again; the ZCCA rules are intended for everyone to have fun and the playing field is leveled over the easiest way to compete. Cleanliness wins. Yea, yea, we can get into the stock thing but more points are lost for dirt than anything else. People who win awards spend days (I mean days) cleaning their car. And still it isn't easy! I remember it rained in Cleveland. Rained like hell in Daytona - what a bummer that was! Uber-dusty in San Antonio.
  21. What!??!?? The one month "Cash for Clunkers" program ended three years ago and you're still blaming that for the current market prices on used cars? You sound like one of those "blamers" that thinks they're entitled. I really don't think we will ever see a design reminiscent of the original S30. Way too much has changed in the automotive industry. We have antiques. Might as well face up to it and move on, don't you think?
  22. Thanks for the pictures, Bob! That dork in the first picture is most certainly holding his name tag. I would know cause I was there when the picture was tooken. Attaching another picture of this shady character in the act of keying the driver's door. The dork standing in your second picture is one of the most outstanding S30 experts / owners in the Z community. Just ask him. (He can be bribed though. Actually, the other two guys in the picture I attached can be bribed also.) Tomo, you're bark is just not cutting it. Yes, when you submit your car to competitive judging you recognize that your car must be fully accessable and that some judge may touch it. He / she may even get in the car. (I wouldn't but that's just me) In fact, the process may damage your car. I certainly hope not, but under the circumstances, things can happen. And that's just the way it is. If you don't like it, don't display your car!
  23. "Take a guess at maybe" are his exact words. How do you get...spill WHAT beans? Very nice concept car, though. I'm thinking that the "240Z", Nissan's ultimate sports car of the time, is now an Infinity brand. And, as we are about to experience with the automotive industry in general, will be powered by electric motors. We'll have to go back to school and bone up on the trick magnet set-up instead of our usual cam conversation, eh? I was especially UNIMPRESSED with the rear-view camera location. Stuck out in the middle of the slipstream and in the optimal position for a piece of reflective glass - not a camera!?!?!!!
  24. Hey! I'm sorry I let this one get away before responding. I saw the first post and decided not to spend any time responding. Hate to sound like a horse's arse but if the author of this thread actually read the ZCCA Judging Rules, he wouldn't be asking these questions and whining as though he has some entitlement to an award. Or worse, suggesting that the rules be modified in his favor. The ZCCA Judging Rules clearly discuss judging protocol and procedure. The chapters about judging organization have been in place for many years and several edits. Everyone knows the rules, the procedures during a ZCCA car show. Well....everyone who reads. Hate to discriminate against illiterate classic sports car owners. I would think that if you owned an expensive sports car and planned to show it at a car show, you would be inclined to familiarize yourself with the rules and procedures. I'm sorry for the rest of you who commented on what is an errant premiss. I'll bet your question or observation is mentioned in the rules somewhere.
  25. Mt. Fuji seal of approval from Her Majesty the 26th!
