  1. Guys, Rick doesn't post with any intention of irritation. He knows this site is "hardball" and he likes to contribute and discuss things with this gang. Welcome him. He's a good-'ol Z guy who wants to talk about Zs. Just read past his # slang. He's used to that format and we can all assume he is talking about HLS30Us, HLS30UNs, or HLS30UVs. I wonder how many of you know the difference between the three models imported into North America. Or that there WERE three different model specifications. John, Climb out of Alan's _ss lest you make a horse's _ss of yourself. Instead, thank him for bringing reality to what would otherwise be little more than a gossip column. England is not in Europe. Thank you, again, Geezer for our lengthy conversations that brought so much understanding of the production process to my attention. The picture Randy posted came from that research conversation when I was questioning the color sequencing some years ago. Kats has my whole collection. Thank you and drive happy
  2. Randy, Your picture originally came from me.
  3. Lonny, This is the archade style postcard I have. Chris
  4. She opens the door to the Z432 and what is on the door in the lower right corner? Zulu! How great. Then she opens the glove box and... winning lottery numbers! Oh my!
  5. Couple of comments having nothing to do with HLS30-00400 - sorry. Mike's brochure was printed in Japan and is Japanese Nissan marketing material. Although it is interesting as a pre-description of the car that was about to be introduced, it is by no means what was actually exported to the U.S. I don't know how anyone could argue that the triple solexes were, at one point, a consideration. There's the proof. In terms of the clear hatch glass, radio and clock blank; those were configurations for the S30-S model. I have considered the model configuration of the HLS30U very close to the S30-S specification. A good point for the argument is the presence of the rubber floor matts in the early cars. Imported without carpeting, the early cars were all fitted by Datsun USA prior to distribution. The tri-fold brochure is, to the best of my knowledge, U.S. printed literature and probably not done until after January 1970. The man and the woman driving the red car are the same as a postcard I have from Parker Advertising, Inc., photographer Jason Hailey. Notice how the models have turtleneck shirts on. That picture was taken in Winter. No way the red car in the tri-fold is 00007. Kats made a point in another thread about the red car. Same conclusion. What happened to 00004 and 00005? We think (with substantial evidence) that they were the North American Test cars. Shipped back to Japan and disposed.
  6. Thanks for the pictures! Wow! They call this race event the runoffs. The real name is the American Road Race of Champions (ARRC).
  7. What serial numbers did we decide were from the North American Test Cars, Kats?
  8. FANTASTIC ! ! ! More! More! More! Standing ovation! I love the wind tunnel models. And who is the great looking model from the HS30-H film?
  9. Her Majesty the 26th will be happy to take this question as Mr. Wenzel was last seen shooting whiskey on Honky-Tonk Row and his where-about is unknown at the moment. Mr. Wenzel’s car show diagram attached. This will be a unique show in the sense that the Z community has been invited by Nissan to show their cars and the ZCCA convention is organizing it. We are guests of Nissan, meaning everyone is on their best behavior. Canopies are not allowed. Anything you want to display with your car must go inside the car. You can have chairs and a small table / tripod, cooler, etc. however alcohol is not allowed. There will be plenty of covered space. There is a dedicated area for people to come and sell things called Vendor Village. The Nissan building will be open. Their gift shop will be open selling the full line of Nissan merchandise as well as special 40th anniversary items. Their cafeteria will be open and serving food. This “cafeteria” serves 1,500 people a day. It is actually a restaurant with a balcony overlooking the car show and Vendor Village. Bose will have two demonstration cars in the lobby. The guest parking lot directly in front of the building will have about 50 special display cars including 12 Nissan Heritage cars, a number of significant Datsun / Nissan race cars, around ten previous ZCCA Gold Medallion / Cup cars, and a number of custom Zs including a few Vintage Zs. Sista Ol’ Yeller with be there! On the front lawn, we will have the ZCCA Judged Collection in front of the Nissan information tent and the ZCCA information tent. Nissan will have special “ambassadors” roaming around to pass out information and answer questions. The best the ZCCA could do was Hooter’s girls, but they’ll be selling raffle tickets. In front of all that will be the People’s Choice collection. Right now, this is about 300 cars, but we are getting one or two registrations a day and, because this is on a Saturday, who knows how many people will just show up that morning. Spectating is free and your non-Z goes in the parking garage. The big parking lot is available for trailers, but we are encouraging trailers in the hotel parking lot. Vendor Village is already pretty full of trailers – Yokohama, Nissan Competition, Z1, AMS…. Steve Millen, Peter Brock, John Morton, and Yoshihiko Matsuo will be there signing autographs and posters at the ZCCA and Nissan tent. The band is awesome, authentic Nashville Country Rock and Blues. Oh…and it starts early. 9:00 am. We start parking cars at 7:00 because the picture will be taken at 9:30. The car show ends at 3:00. The “Z-Store” from the ZCCA convention is the merchandise offered by the ZCCA. That will include a silent auction of donated collectable pieces. The band recorded a special album and there is a special print Hector Cademartori did for the convention. There are patches, pins, golf shirts, and all sorts of stuff with the convention logo (my current avatar). Nissan is giving a car away Saturday night. What could be better? CarShow_Layout-Diagram.pdf
  10. I agree. That car has been hit and it may not track properly. But that's not necessarily something that can't be fixed on frame machines available today. Yes, restoration is a big ticket hobby. I was looking at a collection of old Healeys the other day and marveling at the value of those old beasts. There seems to be quite the disparity in price between them and 240Zs.
  11. Hmh...don't agree with that move. But then, I have green cars.
  12. Well, I suspect you're in good hands. Tell Doug I said hello and 'see ya' in Nashville.
  13. How do you know it was originally green? From that photograph? Yea, wonder who bought it.
  14. Not exactly. The model type HLS30U, which was sent to North America, does not have the evap hardware. Cars with evap hardware are HLS30UV model types.
  15. Here's another idea for you Tomo. Sammie-Joe from the Second Fiddle bar downtown. She is permitted for the interior but only if you have leather seats.
  16. I have a 240Z bra I would like to sell.
  17. Yes, please. DO read the rules for what they say, not what they don't say. For instance, they DON'T say that the $100 bill should be on top of the console, but for obvious reasons it should be inside the console. Just common sense and standard protocol. Beth, I'm sorry I won't be able to judge your car in Nashville.
  18. Check out the rear quarter vents on this crash test. It appears to be LHD?
  19. Great conversation! How anal does it get over here at ClassicZ ? Or...is this a symptom of my "Low VIN" disease? How many great resources we have! Kats, you MUST make a DVD of your films! The scene shows exactly how fragile the early fuel doors and that plastic knob were. Notice how the door bounces? No spring. And notice how difficult it was to close the latch. I see that after a couple of fumbles, the knob closes in the North / South position. Confirm that, right-waist! I thought the "extra plate" was the spring plate also. Not the weld tab on the door. Over time, the weld tab pulls away from the door and rusts. Mine are all pulled away some. You bring up a good point, Mike. Did the S30 come equipped with the sprung door and the S30-S not? Big question.
  20. Yea, it's real difficult to tow a car with a cover on. The cover flapping against the paint will damage the paint.
  21. As of this morning, I have looked at the fuel doors of (HLS30U)-16, 19, 26, 27, 42, 52, and 408. All the same - no spring, no second plate.
  22. Jim didn't "confirm" - Chris looked at Jims' cars. No extra plate on the hinge, but the holes are there. I have a collection at the shop. I'll check further. I think we have discovered something new!?!! Thanks for your info, geezer!
  23. Yes, you can register when you get there.
  24. Just returned from two days in Nashville discussing the convention plans with four of the convention guys. We met with Nissan, the hotel people and the track people also. The convention hotel is within walking distance of Nissan and the car show. There will be three cars in the lobby and about eight more outside the front. There is tons of parking and plenty of room for the fifty-some trailers we are anticipating at the moment. The overflow hotel is about a mile down the road. It is a brand new facility and has the same amenities as the Embassy - indoor pool, business room, etc. Both hotel parking lots will have an off duty police officer for security. We anticipate filling up the front lawn at Nissan with around three-hundred cars or more. Nissan headquarters will be open and food will be available in the Nissan cafteria which services about 1,500 people daily. You'll be impressed. Special displays will be in front of the building including race cars, heritage vehicles, and concourse cars. There have been questions about tickets to just come see the car show and spectators are free. Because this show is going to be pretty elaborate, we decided to start parking cars around 6:30 in the morning and start the show earlier as well. Nashville has it's problems with flood damage but should not affect our convention plans. My picks for local bars downtown include; Legends Corner and 2nd Fiddle for ambiance, Coyote Ugly and Stage on Broadway for dancing, and the quitessential dive bar with GREAT music - Full Moon Saloon. Here are some web sites for Honky Tonk Row: http://www.honkytonkrow.com/ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nashville-TN/Full-Moon-Saloon-Nashville/334731256117 http://legendscorner.com/legends_corner/home.php http://thesecondfiddle.com/second_fiddle/home.php http://thestageonbroadway.com/theStageOn/home.php http://www.coyoteuglysaloon.com/nashville/
