  1. Standard thickness new should be 12.5 mm with a wear limit of 10.5 mm. Total deflection new should be less than 0.15 mm and parallelism should be less than 0.03 mm. Your 10.5 mm rotors are at their wear limit. They wouldn't happen to be the vented hat type, would they?
  2. Enrique, Enjoy your comments as always, however it is the "reputable sources" that has me concerned. How on earth could this conversation be considered "reputable" without any reference (or worse, discarded reference) to what was originally specified? Your octane rating and tire size examples reference original specification. Why not oil? Throughout this thread there is mention of temperature and operating conditions. What is the reader left with, though? Some vague idea that this might be important, perhaps, but nothing specific enough to warrant further thought? Perhaps the answer to this poor fellow's question is; "go ask a reputable source because you won't find it here"!
  3. Horrors! I'm certain that the individual who suggested synthetic oil probably uses Crisco as after-shave! I can't believe all you guys (and there are some experts here) are making suggestions without ANY reference to what the manufacturer recommends. Whoa! It is with distinct pleasure that Her Majesty the 26th offers this information from the engine service manual. This, of course, is from the 1970 service manual. Later issues may differ.
  4. Peter Murphy "Space Oddity". Peter Murphy from "Bauhaus" and "Love and Rockets".
  5. Brian has been around for a while. I'll attest to that. But Brian, the post count doesn't count for beans. Even jelly beans.
  6. Early registration pricing ends April 30th. The discount for ZCCA members will still apply.
  7. During the last discussion of this topic with Carl, I realized that Carl is not recognizing the level of autonomy that apparently existed between Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. and Nissan in the USA. I say apparently as this conversation illustrates the condition. As has been pointed out MANY times, optional equipment was available from the manufacturer from the very begining of production however not in the North American market. The North American market (or Nissan in the USA) developed its own optional equipment which was finally published in a catalog for the 1972 model year. What I find significant is the way the optional equipment issue was handled outside the sphere of the manufacturer. And...how this relates to the issues surrounding Yutaka Katayama and his relationship to Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.
  8. I forgot to mention that Dennis Gage of "My Classic Car" on SpeedTV will be at the car show filming a segment.

  10. What your title says is probably incorrect if the VIN is "S30 101781". The serial number is six digits which leads me to believe the car is a Japanese market "HS30" Fairlady Z produced between October 1971 and September 1973. That particular model was fitted with the L24 series engine however the earlier model "S30", produced between October 1969 and September 1975 was fitted with the L20 series engine. I suspect an earlier "S30" model would have had a five digit serial number.
  11. This one is real obscure. I don't recall ever seeing this in color.
  12. It is probably a type FS5C71 A or B. I would guess B. I have no idea what they are worth. Ok, ok, it's not out of a 240Z, it's out of a Fairlady Z.
  13. Yea, I suppose so. Why wouldn't it be? Carl, has more information about the Black Pearl, but it appears from all evidence that ZZZap Yellow (411) is another "marketing" paint color. And Carl has his point about with or without the appearance package. So wouldn't ZZZap Yellow be considered the same? That's pretty cool, FricFrac
  14. No, the damper and the pulley are the same thing.
  15. The single row front pulley 12303-E4100 is supposedly a competition piece however it is listed in the Nissan Fairlady parts book. It requires a larger bolt and washer. However 12303-E4600 is single row and listed in the Nissan in the U.S.A. competition catalog. It is also listed in the Parts Catalog USA and Canada. The HLS30UN type, delivered to Canada except the state of Ontario came with the single row front pulley as it did not come equipped with emission devices. (page 12, Service Bulletin vol. 125, May 1970) The E4100 pulley has a larger, thicker damper than the E4600 pulley.
  16. Why not!?!?! I can't read the pictures you posted.
  17. Search function! Search function! http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32618&highlight=fuel+door+knob http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25081&highlight=fuel+door+knob Hey there Jellobob! Do you still have 33?
  18. Yea, that'll work. As long as you don't slip the clutch.
  19. I'm not sure I'm following this either. With all respect, Wing. It doesn't sound like you know how to downshift. Here is a basic rule; the clutch pedal is either fully depressed for a gear shift action or your foot isn't on the clutch pedal. Don't ever downshift like you describe! Ever! Never "let the clutch out a bit"! The clutch pedal is either in or out - no in between! Of course you're smelling a burning clutch! You're burning the hell out of it! More clutch conservation tips: ALWAYS sit at a red light with the car in neutral. ALWAYS use your brakes to slow or stop. Only downshift to select the gear you wish to accelerate with - AFTER you finish slowing down.
  20. Let's see what Her Majesty the 26th can pull from the archives.
