  4. We won't know anything until the closing banquet Friday evening. Show winners are the best kept secret of the convention. Charlie Osborne didn't make it to the convention. Chris
  5. Just got back. Track day was fun, sunny and Africa hot. Great pics, Will. Always a pleasure, Carl. The BRE Baja is way cool.
  6. Without question; my favorite car in the show.
  7. Call me on my cell phone when you get to the track, Carl. I should be around and will be glad to help you. Don't take the rig out to the Hilton if you can avoid it. Why don't you just meet me at the track and I can take you in to the Hilton. You can park the rig in the lot outside the raceway for the time being.

    A young Mr. K

I'll say how cool it is that he sent me this! I was floored! The "mook" is all in Japanese. I can't tell you much about the captions or text other than what Usami Masataka wrote about the article. I should take it to Daytona, huh? Here is the cover.

    A young Mr. K

Mr. K sent me a magazine the other day. It is a Geibun Mook No. 564 from Nostalgic Hero. I think it is a July / August publication. Mr. K sent it to me in late August. It just got here. The issue is devoted to the Fairlady and Fairlady Z. A 240ZG is on the cover. There is an article about Mr. K and I thought you all might get a kick out of these two pictures as I don’t believe anyone has seen them before. The first one is "Mr. K is testing a prototype Flying Feather on the bank of the Tamagawa River. The car was designed by Tomiya Ryuichi and the car was built by Suminoe Manufacturing Company." The second one is “The car at the bottom is 1935 Datsun Phaeton and the second man from left standing on the other side of the car is Mr. K. A lady in kimono on the right is Mr. K's sister” This information relayed to me from Usami Masataka through Dan Banks who wrote; “appears to be a 1935 Model 14, with the Ford Y style radiator grill and the leaping hare hood ornament. What does the caption of that photograph say?”
  10. Datsun didn't make a ski rack for the S30. You're safe! That is an aftermarket product. One of the things that contributes to the fame of the Z car is the influence it had on the development of the accessories aftermarket. We commonly see many items that were developed by emerging companies for the 240Z. This ski rack is one of them.
  11. Car, What news! Vicky told me you were going to Daytona and altho I'm sorry to hear about the Baja event, how great you will be in Daytona.
  12. Will, That must have been part of the tropical we have been dealing with for the past few days. Been raining like crazy here. I was going to say that Z-vention should be a good time and place to source some new parts!
  13. Whoah! What a drag! Oh man, am I sorry to hear about that, Will. Come-on down to Daytona and we'll just party. Here's the latest / greatest car show layout. The ZCCA judged competition will be inside the Busch garages - somewhere around 90 cars entered. Then there is a display of cars in the Fan Park area as well as North of the Busch garages. I think around 150 cars are entered - total. CAR_SHOW_240go.pdf
  14. Well then, why don't you have some assistance on this issue?
  15. Write him and ask for a part # and look it up - or post it and I'll look it up. At first, I thought it might be a 432 tach, but I don't think so.
  16. We have had many conversations about special tools for our Z cars. Here is a thread I looked up http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12960&highlight=Too+kits I also remember threads about service tools - the box that the dealer service department got. You will find the part # references in the back of the service manuals for these. I have a large collection of them and two of these boxes. You give me a laugh, Carl. No surprise you have the wrenches! Brand new, of course. Just amazing.

  18. I heard about this over the weekend. Understand he has been gone for some time now. Any word on how MSA is surviving?
  19. If it becomes a live auction at the end, what's the point of silent bidding?
  20. I would suggest you do some research on Scarabs. Real Scarabs are quite valuable. This one sounds butchered at best and without the original engine, you may have nothing more than a V8 conversion. He forgot the production number?
  21. Sorry the picture isn't clear enough for you. You should buy a brochure for your model year. You noticed the air filter box! Yea, the early cars didn't have decals. You see, there is no such thing as a "series one". So, there isn't "correct" across the range of construction refered to as "series one". Our term "series one" is a club term. Datsun never usde the description "series one". The early cars had black distributor caps and the later ones had the dull green cap. The replacement part is the dull green cap. Years later, the cap was constructed with aluminum contacts. The aftermarket caps all had aluminum contacts. That's why people like Arne still have the original cap. The original bronze (maybe brass?) contacts didn't wear out. One of the little things that made Datsun durability famous. You also want to make certain the cap is an original manufacturer and not the aftermarket. A search through the archives will reveal conversations Bambikiller had about this topic.
  22. Futher fuel to the fire...the "correct" distributor cap has bronze contacts, not aluminum.
  23. Brochure photo from 1970 attached. Hard to dispute Nissan published documentation. Black. Actually both colors are correct.

    Mr. K's Birthday

Thought you might enjoy some photos. I first met him at the ZCCA convention in Long Beach four years ago.
