  1. How do I know about the gear widths when the box is on the floor and seller knows nothing?
  2. Now I have one more option to deal with this. A local Nissan club member not so far away just gave me an offer to buy two broken 71C-boxes for 100euros. One misses teeth from third gear, the other has a broken selector fork (is the part name right?) He told me he believes that I or my "team" could create one good box from them. I would gladly buy a good used one. Finding one is hard.
  3. Er... do you mean that I shouldn't try to fix my old box because the result would be a lottery? Or "try these rhdjapan parts, they might work or not..."?
  4. Not too many 71A, B or C:s for sale around here. Maybe before anything else I'll take my three-teeth-missing 71B to a professional to see if it could be fixed. In my non-professional opinion it looks pretty good and feels tight. Worth a try at least.
  5. "Plus the turbo engines tend to run "taller" gearing..." Sorry can you translate this?
  6. My Datsun diff is a 3.9, so I need an overdrive gear. I hope I don't have to consider a diff swap. We have a cold and wet winter time ahead, so all interesting vehicles disappear for about six months. Plenty of time to solve problems.
  7. I bought the car 8 years ago, and the earlier owner had given the car punishment... Back then it had three dellorto carbs, 3,1 liters stroked and bored L26. Little boost only. He told me not to add boost, because of the old gearbox. Well I didn't. But still it was fast. He had had a little more boost, when he drove 12sec-200kmh. Then I did the stupidest thing: swapped this carbureted turboengine to an imported L28ET, And some money. Now that I'm a little older, I understand I should have kept the three carburetors. But I try to forget that blackout moment. The funny thing is: When I swapped to this L28ET, the old gearbox remained. Only last winter I drained it because of starter gear problems. And now I recall: there was nothing in the plug magnet! (I haven't had gearbox issues ever in my life before) Oil wasn't very black, and the plug was not covered with anything. The previous owner hadn't changed the oil before selling it to me. But he drove it hard. The box worked these years with me fine, only when shifting from 5 to 4 I had to be careful. When the third gear teeth got loose, I was driving easy. No pulling. And when I opened the plug, there was some metal powder in yhe magnet ,no chips or anything. Well, those loose teeth of course. So what made the teeth fly?
  8. I'm a little confused with these. Why didn't they just print the tranny type to the cover ?! One more pic.
  9. I'm starting to understand that the 71C:swap is not an option for me because my 71A-trannies are too old. I'm not 100% sure that neither of them is a 71B. How can you tell?
  10. Sorry I wasn't very clear. My broken tranny is from some 240z or 260z. They never imported 280zxt here, so I think the number of Datsun BW-trannies in Finland is close to zero.
  11. I'll call them tomorrow. These I see in their pages: Ca18det 460e Sr20det 680e I know nothing yet about their condition or warranties. Any tips for checking/guessing the condition?
  12. 50pounds=56euros? You mean 500pounds? Japan imports (in Finland) wants 450e for the one they maybe have...
  13. Back to the original question. I think I will open my broken box just to find out how a gearbox looks and works. Then I buy a used 200sx-71C-box. If I find one. How much do those cost in the U.S.? Just for comparison. I believe somebody has those for sale in my country, too.
  14. It is a small city "Naantali" where the Moomins stay. Very close to Turku. This is fun. You people know things about Finland. In Youtube Jay Leno tries to prove that people from U.S. think Europe is a country and Paris the capitol of it.
