@Captain Obviousby chance if the builder used chrome moly rings, Don’t the cylinders have to be honed differently than standard rings. We still don’t have information on what was used on the original rebuild.

Never heard back on the plug condition per cylinder

Sometimes you just have to be MacGyver on these cars. Especially if you’re working alone!!
  5. My opinion is to roll it back to 10. Is it running good?

I run the exact tires and have no issues and they are very smooth and quiet.

If it’s shimmying at 55 IMO tires are not your problem. Could be wheel bearings, rim, that’s not true. It’s easy to go down a rabbit hole chasing this.

  9. Have you done the remove the oil cap test and see if it wants to stumble a bit?

@chaseincatsmentioned the zcar store earlier in the thread. I checked ZCD when I saw the thread. Didn’t find a replacement. I bought one, have to go back and see where I found it.

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and get an original. Not sure what MSA has but can’t go wrong.

@siteunseenHey Cliff my 78 has the coat hanger wires you speak of. I wonder if they were changed out incorrectly. 77:78 owners please chime in. May have a mystery here!!

Saw that as well this morning. Worth a shot for sure.
  15. I think that’s 3m 8001. We used to call that “Yellow Death” at the machine shop. A nightmare to remove!!

I’m troubled here. Why wasn’t the pressure measured after the mechanical pump before you made any decisions. The pressure is probably ok as @Racer Xmentioned earlier. Probably over thinking this. You don’t have a threshold of the current pressure.
  17. Looks like you might have a timing cover crank seal leaking as well. Now is a good time to replace that as well.

If you’re that concerned about it just put a fuel pressure gauge between the pump and the carbs. IMO Adding too many variables for failure in the future.
  19. Chime in gents, I’ve been told that you use 30W Non detergent in compressors. Did the labeling on the Husky bottle list what the contents and viscosity?
  20. Yarb replied to MM569457's post in a topic in Build Threads
Buy one that includes the gauge as an assembly

But will they fit a 78 280. Have to check CarPartsManual manual
  22. Well worth it. One and Done…IMO

Did you originally have the factory Bosch pump on the car? I know a lot of folks have gone the cheaper route with aftermarket pumps. A lot of threads out there with the aftermarket pump issues.
  24. @SteveJI did not realize you had encountered this before. Maybe back in the day “World Parts” may have put this out there.
