  1. does this picture help distinguish anything?
  2. Hello, I have recently acquired new doors to put onto my 1978 280z, but the rails for the window area do not fit on my car. The rest of the door fit fine, just not the metal part on the top. Does anyone know if these rails are adjustable in any way or do i maybe have the wrong door? I have a feeling that i have a 2+2 door but i am not 100% sure. I've read that 2+2 doors are longer so it doesn't make any sense to me how I got it on in the first place if it is indeed a 2+2 door. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. I havent pressure washed the engine bay, thank you for the info ?
  4. Usually even when the engine is warm, it will do the same thing, turn on then when i rev it will turn off. The car was running and revving fine yesterday, and even today it was back to normal then it started again. Its on and off, and at one point the tacometer wasnt working if thats anything worth noting. I dont know if this info helps or not.
  5. Hello all, My 280z will start and idle just fine, the idle is not bad. However, when I give it gas in neutral to rev the engine, the whole thing just shuts off and i have to turn the key again. Any suggestions on what's wrong with it?
  6. https://offerup.com/item/detail/773520964/ This is the deal I have been looking at for the last few days. I've been planning to take a look at it. I have been chatting with the owner, he says the car has been sitting for quite some time. It needs the passenger windows/trim, door handles/locks, and a few interior pieces. We wouldn't be able to drive it home, and we wouldn't be able to give it a test drive because the gas tank is not installed on the car. He says he would be able to hook up an external gas tank to see if the car would run. The registration is backed up $400, but he said he would take care of it or take it off the price. I am also concerned about the price to tow it back home. I am not much a mechanically inclined person, but I would be willing to learn. I have around 3k extra budget to spend after the purchase if it was to be purchased at 4.3K, so a budget of 7.3k total. Would this be good for me or should I wait on another one? Any responses would be greatly appreciated and considered in my decision making. Thank you!
  7. Ok thank you, this is definitely something to consider.
  8. Thank you for responding. I am from the lake forest in California, not the one in Illinois
  9. Thank you so much for responding Len. I will definitely show this to my parents, there was no better way you could have put it haha
  10. Jim, thank you for responding. My good friend has a triumph spitfire, and he takes care of it very well. In a way he has inspired me to try to look for a classic as well. It sounds like so much fun to fix something and have it run or even start up Haha. How was your experience with the midget, because I was also looking into getting an MGB if the Datsun didn’t work out.
  11. ok thank you for your input!
  12. thanks for responding. No its not a AE86, but just a normal corolla you would see on the road everywhere. Its reliable and drives and is not a sporty car. By when you said "Is it possible to have both" as in can I have both cars at the same time, yes I believe I can. Would you recommend picking up the 280z at this point in time?
  13. Thank you for your response. I will probably end up driving the corolla. How much do you think it would be for a 280z in good condition?
  14. I am 16 years old, and I have just acquired my driving permit. I am searching for a 280z as a first car. I have read up on many forum posts already and people have said that it is not a good car to start on as it is old and would require a lot of work and unsafe, but here is my situation. In my family we have a corolla that is in great working condition and it could be given to me as a car to learn to drive on and as my daily driver. People say to learn to drive on a safer car such as the corolla, but I want to acquire a 280z. Would it be wise to purchase a Z as a first car? I have the corolla I can always fall back to, so would it be smart to purchase? I have a budget around $8k for a 280z, would that be enough to get a running 280z that is rust free? Im not that mechanically gifted, but I am willing to learn and am motivated to do so. I am also fairly patient. Another thing, how cheap are parts for this car? Any information would help, thanks for your time!
