Thanks for the link @Zed Head. Will test through these steps tomorrow. With regards to the videos, apologies. You guys always pick up on crazy things I don’t hear, so I figured I would share in case there was extra data you could gleam from it. Any photos That are helpful? With regards to “turn over”, the system doesn’t crank. When I turn the key to start, I can hear the pump running in the back and I can hear a hissing noise in the front near the injectors, but the engine doesn’t crank. I have power in the cabin (door ajar alarm, brake light, buckle seat belts, full dash. I get a little fluttering in the fuel gauge, which bounces between 3/4 and full (tank is full to the neck). I did have the dash apart earlier to replace the shifter boot, will check the wiring around the dash as well. Battery has been on a trickle charger for 2 months and is brand new. Testing steps for tomorrow: - Starter Solinoid testing - Check wiring around distributor and fuseable links - Check Neutral/Park switch - Check dash wiring for breaks / damage @iscnetwork how did you start the car with a screw driver? Also, general question: On the stock 280z from 1977, is the fuel pump self priming? Or does it need to be primed?

Hi Guys, 1977 280z. Been sitting since last year. Tried to start it this week, but I can’t get it to turn over. While I was making changes over this summer, I knocked off the fuel line to the fuel pump and it drained dry. I think the issue is air in the fuel lines. I am getting a louder than normal fuel pump noise and the fuel damper is empty, but I tried to loosen the fuel hose after fuel filter, there is pressurized fuel. Any ideas for what to test? If it is air in the fuel lines, what’s the best way to to purge? Changed Since Last Start: - New Group 24 Battery, fully charged - Changed engine oil and filters - 10 new gallons of premium gasoline IMG_3897.MOV IMG_3898.MOV IMG_3896.MOV
  4. Makes perfect sense. Will give this a try with the jack tonight and will update you on the progress!
  5. Sorry, was posting while in a meeting, am a terrible multitasker. 1977 280z.
  6. @Captain Obvious & @Pilgrim Didn't find it in the Haynes manual or in the Datsun FSM. Is there a different term people use for it other than Stabilizer or Sway Bar Link End? @EuroDat that's the same setup I have. Also, and unrelated: I hope its not too forward, but you got a nice undercarriage. 😉

Hey Guys, Thanks for all of the advice. No luck so far. Steps taken below. Tried heat & penetrating oil, and vice grips first. No luck. No welding kit, but JB Cold Welded a nut head over the top of the bolt. No luck, snapped off 2-3 times. Tried heat & penetrating oil again. Used a punch to mark the center and then used the left-handed drill bit. Still no luck. Used a speed out screw extractor. Metal was pretty soft the speed out chewed away at the top of the bolt. Filed the metal down a little bit so its more flush with the hole. Going to try the left handed drill bit again tonight in a slightly larger size. If no luck, I need to drop the car off for an alignment this weekend and will try to find a shop that can tap the hole while they have the car up. @Captain Obvious its the strut tower. Metal is steel. Nothing is poking out the back unfortunately. Was trying to figure out if I could cut the head off of a similarly sized screw put it in the other side to push the bolt out.
  8. Hey Guys, Replacing old rubber Sway Bar Link Ends this week with new Poly ones. QQ: How flush is the bushing supposed to sit on the sway bar? The old rubber ones contoured to the curve of the metal of the bar, but mostly because they were 43 years old and absolutely shot. As I am tightening the poly ones, they don't have as much flexibility and so they don't align as nicely. I assume this is okay, but wanted to check first before hitting the road. (Disclaimer: Sway bar ends are not tightened in the photos. Took the photo when I first put them in place, but forgot to take a tighted photo before leaving the shop.)

Hey Guys, Any tips for extracting one of the small 10mm bolts for holding on the emergency brake cable? Snapped one today. Not sure if I can get an easy-out in there since it is so small. ? ():

As usual Zed, you are amazing. At some point I will figure out a way to repay you.

Reinstalling the propeller shaft. It’s been a year since I removed and cleaned it, so I can’t remember if it is just lubricated by transmission fluid, or if it needs its own grease. Should I be greasing before I insert this back into the trans?
  12. @ea6driver glad I was not the only one. :) thanks for the link. This forum has been great for keeping me on track as this is the first classic Z I have owned and the first restoration of any kind. Have learned so much over the last year thanks to everyone here. 13. Hey Guys, Making process getting everything back onto the car just before the end of the driving season here. Excited to get it all finished and put some miles on this year. Figured I would post a quick before and after of the suspension reassembly. Before After Newly refinished MSA linear springs vs old stock springs Reassembled Brake drums
  14. There it is, thanks Zed. Will go get the rubber mallet and go get it off again lol Car restoration has a good way of humbling a person haha
  15. Okay, so I might be crazy, but what is the correct direction to install the mustache bar on a 1977 280z with the R200? In the service manual, it looks like the bushings are rear facing which is how I installed the bar (see photo below). But in the updated specs on Atlantic Z, it looks like the bushings are forward facing. Which is the correct way to install? Service Manual Atlantic Z Specs
  16. Good call! I bagged and labeled all of the parts from the old cartridges since they are all the originals from factory and someone mentioned those are supposed to be rebuildable (you know, in case I have unlimited spare time in the future and need some thing to keep busy ? )
  17. Thanks guys! Will continue putting the rest in tomorrow. Just seems so weird that they wouldn’t just make it flush like the old gland or at least have a photo of what it’s supposed to look like at the end lol.
  18. Hey guys, trying to replace my rear stock struts with KYB struts. Started to tighten down the new gland nut, but I can’t get it all the way flush with the top of the tube and these instructions are literal garbage. Should this be all the way flush? Or just tight with no play?

Hey Guys, New guy question that I am sure is covered on the forum, but I am getting myself turned around: What is the best way to calibrate the speedometer/speed sensor on the 280z? Swapping out the stock wheels (195/70R14) for a larger set of rims on a lower profile tire (225/45R15). Change in tires/rims will result in about a 7% differential (83mph/90mph). Want to see if there is a good way to correct for this. Also, is there any difference in speedometer readings when swapping from a 4 speed to 5 speed (both out of late 70s 280z) assuming both were built to work with the same R200. Links are welcome!
  22. Thanks for the feedback guys! Thanks abound for everyone. I have a low mileage model, so I have been trying keep it as original as possible in case I ever have to sell it (god forbid). My intention is to keep it as long as I can keep buying gasoline, but the road of life takes unexpected turns. That having been said, there are some things that I will change in the future that will diverge from original (Goodbye bog bumpers :) ). Was looking through the install list last night and it looks like removal does not require sacrificing any parts, I am going to follow your advice @Mark Maras and keep all of the parts for the next owner. I can always reinstall them if needed. Also, thanks @Captain Obvious for the analysis on value by Model Year/Series.
  23. Tracking down a vacuum leak and I think it is coming from the emissions system. I am considering just deleting it completely. Is this seen as a negative mark for resale value?

@Marty Rogan thanks for the recommendation! I am on Chicago's Northside, but gave a wide range because I am always willing to travel for good work.
