I would pull 1 spark plug from the front three and 1 from the back three cylinders and have a look, it's amazing how much this will actually tell you. Most shop manuals have a spark plug diagnosis guide showing pictures. Plugs should be toasty brown. You will at least be able to tell if your getting to much fuel or to little. It will give you a better idea where to look next, and only takes a few minutes to check. This is almost always the first thing I check when my car starts acting up.

I was just wondering how often the featured Z changes located on the main page? I really like Kyle's car, it's been the featured Z since a least May, when I became a member. I think it should be once a month. Just my opinion.

Picture I finally figured out how to post a picture. I get great satisfaction in figuring things out by myself, it just takes longer.

Good idea carguyinok. It seems WD40 really does work for anything.

Does anyone know how to have a picture show up in a post? I can't seem to get it to work.

EricB, I'm not sure we're talking about the same car. The rims look like wanatabes, but look to be at least 15 or 16 inch rims. The car I'm talking about is in sennavsprost gallery and in the post about drifting (still in last 100 posts.) It's called "has anyone ever drifted with." I can't figure out how to insert an image to posts yet.

texasz, When I first bought my Z it used to do the same thing when and after rain, and would sometimes just die in very heavy rain. This made me think it had to do with moisture in the electrical system. It turned out to be the rubber cap/grommet from the coil wire that's connected to coil had hardened up and wouldn't seal correctly. I have also had this problem on another old car, 1967 Mustang, and it turned out moisture was getting under the distributer cap. I would definitely check all wires coming to and from the distributer and coil, dry out the connections, then see if the problem is cured by running it. If it is replace faulty wire/wires. Check to see if there is moisture under distributer cap, if there is replace it. The moisture might not be that visible, use some nondemaging heat to dry things out.
  8. Alan, Thank you very much for the offer. You are extremely generous. I actually do have the trip all finalized, I just don't know where my fiance is keeping it. I will PM you as soon as I find out tonight. Once again, thank you very much.
  9. Is your offer genuine? I will be going to Santorini, Greece in October and have a lengthy stopover in london. If your car will be done by then I accept. I would think it could possibly be finished in that short a time though. If it's not I would still be interested in seeing your car, never seen a 432R in person. I have nothing else planned for my stopover in London anyway.
  10. It funny you say that about us Americans. I've never driven a RHD car before. I think it would take some time getting used to. From what I've heard from people that have done it in the US is that they actually prefer it after a while.

    You have a PM.

My old computer crashed a month ago and I haven't been able to get the pictures from it. Should have saved them to disk. I will be taking some more pictures soon and will post them in my gallery. I just took the car of the rode in may after driving it for about a year. It is a very unmolested original car purchased from Colorado. It needs some minor body work in the rear due to some one swiping the rear in may. They broke a taillight, bent the bumper, and scratched the paint. It will be a slow process fixing it, I getting married in September. Anyways good luck on your search for a Zcar. I looked in the Northeast for a while with no luck. Most cars around here are rust buckets or the nice ones are very inflated in price. If I see any in nice condition for sale I'll let you know.

wannaZ, I don't know of many Zcar fans from this area, I'm in Newport, RI. I have a proposition for you. I have a set of round top SU carbs on my 71 Z recently rebuilt by ZTherapy. They work excellent, but I have always liked the look of the triple sidedraft carbs. If you end up purchasing the car with triples I'll offer to trade you my SU for the triples. Not just the carbs, everything you need, if you would rather have SU's. I grew up in Yarmouth MA on the Cape, where in MA are you located?
  14. I think its funny how most responses I've heard about the 350z is a dislike for the cars look. But it seems to come mainly from old Datsun/Nissan lovers. The majority of car fans not specific to the old Zcar actually like the looks of the car. I think most of us wanted something that looked even more like the old Z. I hated the look at first, but it has grown on me, especially the side profile. I guess it makes since. Most old mustang lovers can't stand the modern 5.0. Most old camaro guys can't stand new camaros either, probably why they don't make them anymore. I just think old Zcar fans won't give the new car an unbiased chance considering the love of their classic Z. Maybe I'm wrong, it could be we just like old cars in general and don't like the styling of most new cars. I don't think that's the totality of it though. My guess would be if it was the new skyline design and not a Z replacement it would be a little more accepted. Just my opinion.

I first wanted to say that I love the look of your car. When I was growing up my dad built a lot of hot rods and most ended up in flat black. It makes cars look mean. My questions are about the wheel/tire/suspension set up you have on your car. I can see you have wanatabes, but what size front and back? What is the backspacing? What make and size tire are you running in the drifting pictures? Are the flares on your car the ZG Flares from MSA? If not who makes them? My last question is about your suspention. It looks like your car is lowered, if it is how much? Are you running coilovers? Sorry that I'm trying to get specifics, I have been searching the forums for answers for a while and have been getting mixed answers. I basically want the same stance on my car with ZG Flares. Due to the difficulty of getting Wanatabes, I will be buying Minilites new TransAm wheels, which is very similar. Thank you very much in advance.
  16. Every time someone asks about a supercharger the response is about the old roots style blower that uses a single Holley carburator. Then say it's not worth doing. I would like to install a vortech style centrifigal supercharger, like on modern mustangs, on a 3.0 liter stroker motor with fuel injection. My boss has a 1997 BMW M3 with this set up. His car is making 450 dyno hp at the rear wheels, in a 3.0 liter straight six setup. I have been searching for a while to see if anyone has done this setup with no luck. If anyone has any info or feedback on this idea it would be appriciated.

I drove by a Nissan dealership today and stopped to check out the new 350Z they had out front. It was silver and looked very nice. While I was checking it out a salesman came out like usual and wanted to help me with any questions I had. I noticed the Z was an automatic and wasn't interested in driving it unless it was a standard which I let him know. He brought me into the showroom where they had a brickyard red touring addition with every option possible, and a 6-speed too. I sat in it and was immediately offered a test drive. I had to go just to see how far Nissan has come with the Z. After, all I can say is go for a test drive, it doesn't cost anything for the grin you will have when your done. The car is amazing! I felt the cockpit didn't look that good in pictures, but while sitting there it couldn't be any better. The seats fit like a glove and all the gauges are situated in the perfect positions. It is much better in person. The performance of the car is outstanding. Acceleration is smooth and very satisfying even for someone that is used to sportbike performance. The car is very tight. I know it is new and should be, but it is much tighter than many other spotscars on the market now. I didn't notice much body roll through corners. I got the car up to 140mph in not much time at all, and when it was there it was very in control. I just wanted to tell everyone how impressed I was with the new Z. Everyone that owns an old Zcar should take one for a ride to see for yourself what an outstanding car Nissan has built and what technology and time has transformed the new Z into.

You want to make sure you have a big air tank attached to your compressor or it will get very frustrating constantly running out of pressure. This is what happened to me the first time I sandblasted a car with a smaller compressor. It had good pressure for a few minutes then didn't perform well until pressure built back up again. I spent more time waiting for the pressure to build up than I did actually sandblasting.

Hey Mike, I thought I introduce myself. I just became a member of this club a couple days ago and love it. Wish I found it sooner. How long has the club been on the web? I also went to the site you are inquiring about a few minutes ago to see if it wasn't still working, but it worked fine for me. I didn't check every link on the site but the ones I did worked. I agree though, it would be a shame to lose that info.

Just wanted to let every body know I found this site online the other day and can't stop browsing through it. It has by far and away the most information, pictures, and intelligent Zcar nuts on the web. I can't believe how many pictures are on this site. I'm sorry I didn't find you sooner. I guess my question would be when did this club start?

Good question. I would also like to know what some should expect to pay for the drivetain in a 83 ZXT or parts car with all its' running gear.

It sounds to be some sort of broken mount, probably the tranny mount. If one part is broken and is shaking alot it will cause a lot more stress on other parts, like u-joints. I would get it fixed right away if you want to drive your car with any enjoyment and not cause any premature wear on other parts. I have a question about the motor in your picture gallery Image "240ZG3". What kind of fuel injection is that? TWM? How much does that set up cost? Can this set up take a pressurized airbox and centrifigle supercharger? It's in the White ZG.
  23. GTZZZ replied to Gav240z's post in a topic in Engine & Drivetrain
Doesn't sound like a clutch problem to me. They usually just wear out then start slipping. It could be your car is out of tune like you suggested, I used to drive my first Z without tuning it for a long time it it would do the type of things you are describing. carbs, timing, and spark plugs and/or wires could be the problem. Usually a drive train problem gets worse with speed or under acceleration, but I would still check it. It still could be a broken tranny mount or bad U-joint. Good Luck.
