  1. I have a 1973 Z and the fuel gauge is showing full, even though I emptied the tank and added only about 1 gal. This is a new fuel gauge sending unit in the tank, swapped in in the last year. It seemed like it started having this problem after I put in a Pertronix Ignitor starter, but that doesn't seem to make sense. Here is a pic of the wiring at the tank, and 2 pics from ballast area under the hood.

  3. I have a related question. I installed the Pertronix Ignitor and it starts fine, but since then the fuel gauge is not accurate. It doesn't seem to move off of about 2/3 full, even when I run out of gas. 😞 Some wiring pics.
  4. Hey, I'm in the Baton Rouge area! Would love to connect with another Z local enthusiast.
  5. It's pretty crazy to a guy like me also, a newbie. I bought my first Z in April 2020 as a Covid car project, after loving them from afar all my life. It's a 1973 original owner car with original paperwork, title, etc. It's white with red interior, and I've restored most of it, except kept the pearl white he repainted it instead of Kilimanjaro White. It had sat most of the last 20 years, mainly I think because he was not a mechanic, and the mechanics he used didn't know how to handle flat top carbs, I'd guess. I've swapped in SU carbs, upgraded to a performance coated header and exhaust, etc. Having fun with the restoration. Even found the original radio in a box of his stuff. I want to keep it and enjoy it, but man this market....
  6. Almost like he was using it as a dry run for a BAT auction.
  7. This beautiful green/butterscotch 1971 is up to $78K on autohunter.com. https://autohunter.com/Listing/Details/10950789/1971-Datsun-240Z
  8. That looks like a true "survivor" car. I noticed the shoulder straps. Are that how they go? I've still got those in a box that came from the original owner. I figured out that they bolt to the hole above the quarter panel windows, but other than that I haven't yet gotten the whole picture.
  9. Definitely was doctored. That's too bad. Fyi, Here's my 1973 numbers plate from a couple of different angles.
  10. Curious... What's the proper definition here of a "survivor" Z?
  11. Just found this thread. I have a '73 Z that has a good paint job, but it is in a pearl white, not the original Kilimanjaro stock white. I'm wondering if a wrap is the better way to go. Can I even special order a vinyl wrap to match the original stock color? I would not want to do the wrap myself.
  12. I finally put this to use while restoring the rear end cosmetics. See pic:
  13. Update! Got the parts from @dutchzcarguy, after they took a leisurely world tour through several postal systems. Put them on today.
  14. What year is yours? It has the orange blinker lenses. Was that a Euro vs US thing?
  15. Why are there so many of these (including mine) that have the rear plate redone in black?
  16. I love that lime-green-chartreuse color. Never been a fan of silver. I guess those 70s and 80s silver stock finishes that seemed to morph into car exema turned me off.
  17. I'd definitely take a dry run in this thread before I actually posted mine for sale.
  18. Well, turns out the pieces are there but pretty much disintegrated. Lol.
  19. Quite the paint job. Didn't even bother to take off the license plate. You can also see orange at bottom of the door jam.
  20. The Datsun Hunters out of Auburn, Georgia, have posted this one for sale on eBay. Thoughts? I have visited their shop, btw. 1970 240z restoration project.
  21. I have PM'd @dutchzcarguy. Just want to finish going through the boxes of old parts the original owner gave me to see if I have the originals. No luck so far,.so I plan to try to work something out with Mart.
  22. Ah, is this more what I should be aiming for as original? (The other 1973 z on BAT right now):
  23. Wow, interesting. Let me dig into this more for a day or so. I'll talk to the original owner and also see about pulling off the bumper. Will post more pics. See, here is a recent BAT post and this 1973 Z shows the bumpers coming all the way around to fill up the recess. So, this was either a Euro, or at some point Euro bumpers replaced originals?
  24. What am I missing here? Is it a piece of rubber moulding? Is the bumper I have too short? I bought this Z (1973 240z with 10/72 build date) from original owner a year ago and have worked my way out to the front and rear cosmetics. I see some Z's with bumpers that extend neatly into that cavity. Mine doesn't.
