  1. Thanks. Hmmm. Would you know if those are compatible with the KYB shocks + Eibach springs I plan to use?
  2. It did exhibit a little bit of dieseling after I turned it off the other day, this was after about 25 minutes of spirited driving. I noticed the ZStore also sells heat shields (pic) and I'm curious if those are helpful. Also, what's the purpose of an insulation block between the carb and engine?
  3. Yep. This was precisely the case. The Z store still gets them from ZTherapy, and they are having to wait a few months right now, too. Looks like I'll have time to try my hand at tuning the flat tops.
  4. I'd read a few threads about the mods, but hadn't seen that one. "If ya wanna race, update, if ya wanna date, don't race." Lol. The previous owner handed me the 4-set of KYB gas shocks in their boxes, so I'm going with them. I added the eibach progressive springs to the mix, and based on comments from people I have also ordered the spacers for the back because the eibach springs make the back end sit a little lower in the wheel well than the front. Not to mention, I already feel like I'm looking uphill sitting in the car now. Backend is shot and pretty much bottoming out on the tiniest bump. I think I'd rather the turns be handled well and I'll just have to take it easy over speed bumps. Sounds like that means the sway bar kits might be a good option for me.
  5. FYI, Natchez Machine & Radiator says they will give it the chemical bath (i.e., boil) and only charge me about $45, so that'll be the first thing I'll do after I drop it.
  6. MSA Sway Bar Kit, 70-73 240Z, Front 1", Rear 7/8" Anyone ordered and implemented this on a 240z? I'm about to replace the suspension with KYB shocks + Eibach springs, and figured I'd order these, too. But, they are on back order for a while. Was it worth the investment? The suspension is completely shot right now. And it does roll, but not sure how much that'll be helped by the new springs/shocks.
  7. So, I now have the original rims in hand, and 3 of the hubcaps. One is missing the middle Z piece. Here is a pic. They don't look spray painted, but they are monotone grey. They were in this box, picture#2, so perhaps they are not the originals after all?
  8. I'll contact the ZStore and see what's the scoop. In the meantime, I ordered the $40 flat top rebuild kit, also. It does not come with the needles or floats. Those would add about $50 per carb. In your experience, should I go ahead and order those too? And, yes, I've got two parallel tracks going here. :-) I figure spending another $100-200 for the sake of possibly salvaging the flat tops and building my confidence to tune them is a worthy near-term investment.
  9. I love how he didn't bother plugging all the holes. Just let the rocks, gas, and rust fly out. That's a lot more attention than I'd ever give a Chevy Astro.
  10. That's hilarious. I'm going to go out on a limb and say his 3-wheeler uses a little oil.
  11. BBs sounds like asking for trouble. I was going to go with a cluster of smooth stones at the most. Not even sure if the POR15 process really needs it, but I'll see. I think the kit comes in early this week. I'll let y'all know how it goes.
  12. That's the one I read, but I missed the part down below about P6502 effectively replacing E3002 now, even though they obviously aren't exact matches. At any rate, I recall now that there was some remnant electrician's tape-looking stuff around the stopper when I checked the oil before buying. I guess that was his fix. I just applied the same fix. Sitting snug right now. Thanks.
  13. Sounds like a personal problem, but yeah my dipstick on this '73 240z sits very, very loose and I'm pretty sure it leaks oil when running. Been wondering if the previous owner put in wrong dipstick. I found an old thread that says the part number should show E3002, which mine does. (pics) But, Zstore shows a 240z dipstick with P6502 stamped. Link Anyone dealt with a very loose E3002 dipstick?
  14. Very nice. I am going to try some radiator shops in Natchez. Had no luck in Baton Rouge area. Memphis is about 6 hour drive for me. What shop is it? I am mainly looking for a price for them to do the inside.
  15. Anyone had experience with these ZStore round tops? Link. Less expensive than ZTherapy and probably could get them much sooner.
  16. I was thinking of spraying break cleaner from the engine bay on down to the back end the length of the metal line while plugging the other end to let it sit in there. Then blast it out with air compressor, rinse, repeat. I may try your method but with a small pipe brush.
  17. There look to be several options for buying round tops out there, ranging from bad shape/need attention, to the ZTherapy ones. Several on eBay in the $325-600 range, but I don't have the experience yet to wade through those, so I may go the ZTherapy route, if I can wait that long. Btw, the original owner had this in a box of stuff. Anyone used one of these to tune a flat top successfully? Something tells me I'm going to run into several vac leaks in the process, and now I'm considering replacing with some MSA headers. My head is swimming.
  18. Googling tells me they may be 280zx era.
  19. I've been told they are 280z rims. They are on the 1973 240z that I bought and am working my way through. The original owner found the original rims and hubcaps (well, three) so I'm going to put those on and sell these to try to recoup some costs.
  20. Thanks. I read that woodworkerb.com article last week, then couldn't find it again. I like his tip on the homemade "wrench" for removing the sending unit. While I'm doing this, have any of you found a good method of cleaning out the metal fuel lines? I have no leaks, but I'm sure they've got some build up. Some threads mentioned a varnish build up over time.
  21. I'm about to tackle the dropping and cleaning of my gas tank on my 1973 240z. I've read through this lengthy thread from 2005. For those of you who have done this, on the inside of the tank, is this kit all that is really required?: POR15 Fuel Tank Repair Kit FYI, I have called numerous radiator shops in my area, and none of them do gas tank work. So, I'm stuck with full DIY on this. Also, while I'm doing the work, what else makes sense to do on this 47 year old been-mostly-sitting-for-20-years car? Go ahead and replace the sending unit, for example? Vapor tank elimination? That was something I'd not planned to do. Thanks.
  22. Thanks for the honest feedback. The build date appears to be 10/72. So, next question is, do I wait it out for the Ztherapy round tops? (They are saying August at earliest) or pick up some at places like this: ZCarDepot Or new/used on eBay? Where are the best bets to source them?
  23. I have no idea. Feeling a bit overwhelmed on where to start. Here's a few pics of that front carb as requested.
