Machining cylinder head for more compression?
This reminds me a bit of this cartoon I used to watch as a kid called phineas and ferb were they would build crazy stuff and everybody asked "aren't you to jung to build (insert something crazy)?" and they would just reply with "yes..... yes we are" and continue building. As a Kid I never really spend much money on anything since the age of 5 to save up to someday buy a cool car. I also got some finencial help from my parents because they didnt want me to ride a motorcycle. And about the car yes it WAS really bad, lots of rust, bad suspension all around, bad wiring and so on...... Right now all of the structural rust has ben fixed the car has a complete new floor pan welded in by welder/chassis builder for free by trading him spare porsche 914 parts 😀 I can weld so I will repair the rest of the rust myself. I removed all of the suspension (A-arms, Struts, sway bar, steering, brakes) even the differential and tank everything got new bushings and all off the surface rust painstakingly removed so that I could paint all of it, while at It the underbody also got painted/undercoated. Aswell as the new bushings I also installed kyb gas struts because the old ones were not good. I also removed all of the rubber seals, all of the glass, all bodypanels, interior to restore. The dash was cracked so i used filler and lots of sanding to repair it all of the gauge glasses were so crappy that you couldn't see the gauges I removet them and polished until they were clear again. So I basically tore down the car to the bare chassis in a small garage with no lift so working with a jack and jack stands. "have you thaught this through?" well I think I am doing pretty ell for a 16 year old with a limided budget. This is no half a$$ed restoration! I already have all of the restored suspension, brakes, steering and differential installed, the car is getting ready for paint and removing the engine block (cylinder head and everything else is already removed). A restoration doesent have to be horrendously expensive if you do all of the work yourself and spend your money smart! I will upload a few pictures of the car so that you get an idea.

Machining cylinder head for more compression?
Here in Germany we can get 100 octane fuel at most gas stations, yes octane not RON!

Machining cylinder head for more compression?
Thanks for the offer but I am not going to spent 1500€ on a cylinder head 😁 Do I really need new pistons? Until now I was planning on using L24 flattop pistons.

Machining cylinder head for more compression?
Well I have 2 options using the E88 head from the l26 or using the E88 head from my l24 I heard that the l26 had bigger valves and that's why I wanted to go with this. The thing about the E31 heads is that they are extremely hard to find in Germany so I think machining down an E88 to get the same compression is the best option.

Did you move the link over one spot on the sprocket or did you mean to say removed a link?

Machining cylinder head for more compression?
I know but by saying in the calculator that the head gasket is 0mm thick it has the same affect as machining 1.25mm of the cylinder head.

Machining cylinder head for more compression?
No I dont think we got the maxima here and i can get an l26 block+head for cheap I also have my original l24 to get the pistons from so I am pretty much set I just need to know if my frankenstein engine will work in the end 😅

Thanks for the reply! could you tell me what you did to prevent the timing chain going slack?

Machining cylinder head for more compression?
Hello, I am looking at buying an L26 engine for my 240z the plan is to use the l24 flat top pistons and a decked e88 cylinder head to get more compression. The ozdat calculator says that with a 1.25mm thinner head gasket and the l24 pistons I will get a compression ratio of 10.5/1 is this equivelent to machining 1.25mm of the cylinder head and using the stock head gasket? Is it even possible to remove that much material?

Need help choosing a blue (:
Hello, I am going to get my 240z projekt painted in the near future but I just cant distinguish and choose between the differnt shades of blue. I know that I want a dark blue and I also have some examples of cars that I think look good, it would be great if you could help me identify some of these colors. Greetings from germany Elias I think i like this first color the most:

Japanese s30z's street racing/drifting
I get your point and maybe I should have cleared this up before but I am not trying to get information to use my 240 for street racing. I just really enjoy the old japanese car culture and would like to learn more about it. aswell as that I know of a few highway (wangan) racing Z's from around that period and I would just like to collect a few cool old school street racing pictures from japan 😉

Japanese s30z's street racing/drifting
Yea I noticed that when I first turned to full lock, but that still doesnt explain why they wouldnt race them on the streets becaus they also used lots of civic's integras and other fwd cars that well....... don't drift 😅

Japanese s30z's street racing/drifting
Hello, recently I have been watching some sold japanese mountain/street racing videos from the 90's and couldn't help but notice the lack of fairladys. you have your usual rx7 , skyline, supra, AE86 and 240sx but I could only finde these 2 pictures of s30's from that era. It would be cool if you could share some of your pictures and maybe help me to why I cant seem to find any. 240Z Street Racer Oldschool Street Racing in Japan!

my cam looks terribly wiped!
8I finally got around to taking the cylinder head off today and the cylinder walls are not scored but have a little step just above TDC the cylinder head also looks kind of crusty. May I ask dutchzcarguy how much he wants for that l26 engine? 😬

my cam looks terribly wiped!
I know but if this engine is still good Im going to change the head gasked and port the head anyways.

my cam looks terribly wiped!
Yes the Oil smells gassy and the level is above the max. when I find the time I am going to check if the cam has a lip and I will prabably pull the cylinder head of to take it apart and look at the condition of the rockers.

my cam looks terribly wiped!
Hello, A few days ago I removed my valve cover to see how things are looking under there (currently restoring the car) and found that my camshaft looks really bad. Can it be saved? the oil also smells like fuel quiet bad and since I live in Germany It would be hard to get another engine if the bottom end was also bad because the car was run without oil pressure or something.

Thank you so much! What a treasure trove of information that will really help me!

diy porting a 240z?
Hello, I have some questions on porting the e88 head from my 240z. To give you some context I live in Germany so buying a cylinder head that flows better wont be an option and I wont hand this work over to a Professional 😄 This will be my first time porting a car head but I have ported 2 stroke cylinders countless times. My first question is: do I really need to remove the valves to port the runners or is it ok if I clean everything exceptionally well after the fact? I am also wondering what/how much meterial to remove (besides the port matching). The car is prabably getting a hotter cam a bit more compression and eventually triple 45mm weber carbs Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany. Elias

Where can I find L20a connecting rods?
I am not trying to build a super high performace engine and you prabaly know mods like these are a slippery slope 😆 because if i bore the block I might aswell port the cylinder head and if I do that I should prabably to the exhaust manafold and triple carbs. I pretty much want something that drops in, that would be perfect like I said if I could just drop in a crankshaft and some rods or pistons I would be a happy camper.
