$2.75 in N. Alabama
Huh, guess I shouldn't have taken the person's word for why gas is suddenly so hard to find. He made it seem like it was related to the Keystone Pipeline. Wild how this oil company basically had to shut everything down as a biproduct of the attack on their computer network. Guess it goes to show the vulnerabilities a company may have if their entire operation is, at least in varying degrees, hinged upon computers - not necessarily a bad thing, but it is a potential weakness, as we can see. I'd have thought this Colonial Pipeline would have contracted some sort of cybersecurity company to prevent such attacks. At any rate, I'm sure they will now! Still, people going around buying all the gas in the pumps is exacerbating the situation. I imagine most gas stations could handle not getting re-upped for the duration of this whole thing if people continued buying gas at a normal rate. Panic snowballs far too quick.

$2.94 for regular in Northern Florida. All the gas stations in my little town were empty, too. Ended up risking a 20ish minute drive out of town to fill up - got gas, but it was not cheap. Apparently people are buying up gas like it's about to vanish because the pipeline got cancelled. It's like the toilet paper crisis all over again! I thought people learned!

Brakeline question
It's so much better, there's hardly even a comparison. It's an almost foolproof way to flare lines, and the best thing short of a $100-200+ flaring tool. Only downside is, you need one for each size brake line. Pretty sure the 240 only uses 3/16 though, so it doesn't matter if that's all you're gonna work on. Guarantee you'd never use one of those finnicky kits again!

Brakeline question
Assuming you'll be flaring the brake line yourself, consider buying this tool: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ttn-51535 It's super quick and easy, and it makes near perfect flares every time. A bit pricier than the regular flaring tool kits, but I think it justifies its cost. I originally tried using one of the regular tool kits when I replaced a line, but it was super finnicky and hard to use (was a bit on the cheaper side though). Got the Titan and accomplished more in five minutes than I did after an hour or so of mucking about with the kit. Plus, you can use the Titan to flare the line while under the car if you need to make some last minute adjustments - particularly useful in your case since you're probably going to have to figure out your own custom lines.

Guy sounded like a boxing coach or hype guy at the end. Looks like his strategy payed off, though.

Looking for advice on a prospective purchase (78 280z)
Two good things about a z like this: 1.) It's heavily modified, which typically lowers the price. 2.) The owner probably took great care of it if they were willing to put the time and money into modifying it. If you find one with modifications you find tasteful, then it'd be a good buy. As Patcon said, z's move really fast - listed and sold within weeks. Keep your finger on the trigger!

76 280Z 2+2 parting ways
Was going to say roughly the same thing. Hard to get a more narrow price range since we don't know everything about the car. I'd scour the web looking for similar cars, and see what they're going/went for. Bring a Trailer is good for that since they have a graph listing all previous sales. Cleaning up the engine bay real nice and a good detailing will always squeeze out a few more bucks - usually worth the time/investment. Sorry you've got to let her go!

Tuning With An Air/Fuel Gauge
Ah! I've got a '71. It's a nice little touch - changing the settings in the dark is not too easy without being able to see what you're doing.

Tuning With An Air/Fuel Gauge
A little off topic here - is it stock for the A/C stuff to be backlit like that? If so, mine never have been. The panel doesn't look stock to my eye - I don't recall it being so shiny, but, then again, maybe I'm not very observant. On topic - been following the thread and it's had a lot of interesting information, discussion, and graphs. Great stuff!

I'm surprised that worked as well as it did. He even sharpied on a fret board! It has a very grimy sound, and I mean that in a good way.

Funny, it never occurred to me there would be Soviet musical instruments. Are their guitars good? Like American, Gibson, Martin good?

I think we all know what this video is about... I assure you, it isn't the guitar. She never even played a chord, just open strings. For those who don't know, playing the open strings on a guitar is of virtually no musical significance - the open strings amount to, at best, dissonance. If anything, she was playing an Em, but she skipped the two strings that would have been pressed down to make the chord anyways. Despite the flagrant disregard for musical integrity and, in turn, the guitar itself, I still enjoyed the video. Good stuff.

They just don't look Porsche to me. Those 928 headlights scream Lamborghini Miura, in my opinion. But, then again, Porsche is the 911 in my mind. At any rate, it seems like Porsche was having an identity crisis when making these cars! Neat cars regardless - wouldn't mind finding one in my grandpa's garage!

14" tire recommendation
Glad to hear everything went the way it did. Coulda turned out a lot worse for you, the car, or both. I can see why that corner is so fun - it's just begging you to corner it hard, and go flat out on the straight. Car sounds great by the way! Looking back on it, I had a higher tendency to lose traction when I first got my z - I'm not sure how old the tires were then, though. Never anything crazy, they'd just screech a little if I was pinning it and shifting gears. I'd imagine the same thing would have happened to me that happened to you in similar circumstances. Take my anecdote with a grain of salt though - I was unfamiliar with the car and it's finnicky gas pedal at the time so it might have been poor driving rather than poor tires.

I take it this happened in your z? I also take it you made it out alright? Which leads me to my main question - did the car survive?

I have a hard time believing this one is real. I mean, why go through all that trouble? All that money?

Why this forum is unique
I bet that is real great! It's neat how a car brings people together just the same as music. You like CCR? I like you. You like a z? I like you, too. Looks like this year's is in Colorado which is a long way from home for me. Maybe I could make it, but there's always the next years.

Why this forum is unique
This forum also has a laid back, bunch of buddies hanging around talking about their favorite car sort of feeling. It's like a Z lover's watering hole. The regulars seem to know each other, and we newbies come in learning from the tried and true experts. Also, there's several informal threads such as this one, the "z's only a mother could love" one, and the "Saturday Music" one as well, to name a few. I'm not sure how many car forum websites are like this - whether it's common, or relatively rare. Either way, that's what makes this forum unique to me.

Why this forum is unique
Just a thought as to why the Viper people were so off-putting. I've noticed different cars attract different sorts of people - stereotypes essentially. Think of the Civic owner clichés as an example. One of my buddies was always enamored by hearses and when he got one, he met some other hearse owners and all of them were just as delightfully eccentric as he. I don't know how to describe the Z-car scene, but, yes, most everybody does seem to be welcoming, helpful and all around nice (for lack of a better word). Maybe that's just the sort of people who are attracted to the Z, for some reason or another. And if I had to wager a guess, I'd imagine Viper people may tend to be a bit more... aggressive, to put it nicely. That's not to say "Viper owner = a-hole", only that there's a trend in the statistics. Whatever the rhyme of reason may be, Z people are my kind of people ❤️

Found 2 240Z's
Nice! What do you plan to do with them? Ebay might have the seats you're looking for - worth a shot. Otherwise you could scour the 'Parts for Sale' forums either on here or another site like HybridZ. If that doesn't work, you could try your luck making a 'Parts Wanted' post.
