well, I'm taking my car to the Dyno next week to see what I have at the wheels. I don't think I was getting all that my engine had. Funny, on my slowest run of 15.3, my reaction time was .666. After they I find out how much power I have at the wheels, I have a better bench mark for where I should be.

I finally got around to taking my Z to the drag strip. I'm running a 3.0L stroker motor with bored out SU carbs. 3.7 LSD, with 1983 280zx 5speed tranny, street tires, and my best time was a 15.103 with a .807 reaction time. Is this a good time for this type of set up??? I did notice that my car would hesitate a little around 5500 rpms, kind of went on and off up to 7000. I crossed the finish line in 3rd gear, at around 5900 rpms at 94 mph. I'm guessing my gear ratio is a little tall for drag racing, or I could probably get solid 14's.

I just put in an LSD Rear End from a 1988 300ZX turbo into my 240Z. (supposedly rebuilt) It seems fine, there isn't any play, but it is louder than my last R200. It has a whining sound to it. any thoughts?? My Ujoints are in good condition. It seems to get quieter as it warms up.

I'm in the 60,000-80,000 group (with my wifes income), but we live in California's Napa Valley. After the essentials, aint much left. But hey, according to a certain political affiliation I'm rich...right???
  6. Their customer service sucks. I tried to get 1 little thing from them (rear end cover gasket), they shipped to the wrong address(an old address I used to have, I had since changed). I had to track it, they expected me to get Fed Ex to re-route the package, then never even offered to refund my shipping charges. The shipping error excuse was "the shipping address was changed in the computer, but for some reason the shipping label printed the old shipping address" I could have thought up a better one than that. Anyone had problems like this with Motorsport Auto??? Or am I over reacting???
  7. I figured I would give everyone here an opportunity to get it, by selling it on ebay, then posting it here. I'm sorry, but this is too good of a thing to just GIVE AWAY. They don't make these anymore. The really only thing wrong with it is there is about a nickle size chip in it. I had already bought a cap for my cracked dash, and I aquired this and didn't feel like swapping dashes. (i'm cool with the cap) I'd rather sell it and get some of the money back I spent on my Limited Slep Differential. By the way, I still have a set of SU carbs, and MPH and RPM gauges. The carbs have new needles and gross jet float valves.
  8. Since I started the bid at 100 dollars, I wanted at least 100 dollars. I've stated that I have this dash before, and nobody, seemed interested. If someone wins the bid for 100, they get it.
  9. 4 days left in auction. Pm me if you have any questions.
  10. I have a dashboard for sale on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2432488553

I've heard a 3.0L stroker with a 3 inch exhaust, and I thought it sounded better than my 2.5 inch system.
  12. Hello all, just got my 300ZX lsd R200. I know I need to swap a few things from my stock R200, but was wondering, before I dive into it, how easy is it to change the input flanges from the "cv" type to the "u-joint" type? Is there a clip that holds them in, or do they just pop out??? I have heard the swapping the flange that bolts to your drive shaft yoke is a little more difficult. Is this something that needs to be done at a shop?

what is the stock weight of a 280Z 2+2 flywheel??? I was told to use the 2+2 because of it had more surface area ( less slipping), and I couldnt afford the high performance clutch parts, along with an light flywheel. Now that I do have the funds, I would like to upgrade. What kind of difference does an 11 lb. flywheel make in exceleration???

I fixed the problem. Seems I didn't advance my timing enough. I turned the distibuter a little, and ZZZZOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!.......Daddy Like!!!!

I just shortened my name. I used Drecord as a long on because it matched my email address, then thought a shorted version of it would make a good profile name, hence Dreco. Since then, I've alwaysed used the User Name "Dreco" on any site I've registered at. I just never got around to changing it on this site.
  17. I'm shortening my name to match my profile name on all the other sites I'm registered on. Just in case someone thinks Dreco is a different user.

I figured out what was up with my motor sputtering at high rpms. I assumed that I adjusted my timing right. It was off. This morning, just for the heck of it, I advanced my timing just a bit, hit the gas and WWWWWOOOOOWWW. It passed the coffee test with flying colors. It's all over my center console.

.... trust me, the parts I tossed....you didn't want. (seized smog pump, old hoses)
  21. Dreco replied to malder's post in a topic in Engine & Drivetrain
The first thing I did to my car( old engine) was throw all the smog equipment in the garbage, get a european balance tube and plug that HOLE.
  22. Dreco replied to malder's post in a topic in Engine & Drivetrain
Oh. that's right. sorry, it does go to the breather tube in the block. It's been so long since I've had that set up. I have the little air filters on mine. One for the block breather and one for the valve cover.
  23. Dreco replied to malder's post in a topic in Engine & Drivetrain
I'ts part of your smog equipment. I hose goes from the valve to your air cleaner. I just plugged mine. Of course I took off all of the smog equipment.

I looked at a second set of carbs that I have ( from my original engine) last night. I noticed that the piston in my spare set has a better seal than the set I had bored out. I'm wondering if the vacuum of my engine can't raise the the piston fast enough to let the correct amount of fuel up through the nozzel at higher RPMS? Anyone have thoughts on this??? I'm guessing that would be the same scenario, if you had too thick of an oil in the carbs. Speaking of oil, what weight oil should you use in the carbs? I know it's supposed to be pretty thin. I used some 5w-20 is this thin enough?? I figure I'll just swap some of the carb parts and see if there is a change.
