For 2 seconds i thought rings too but....1. Its the wrong shape 3. Too small, its tiny 3. Compress is 185 in all 6. Iam guessing tensioner.

Found these in the oil strainer. Magnified one and its the shape of an isosceles trapezoid. Size of a tooth pick tip. Magnetic. Its not shrapnel because it has a formed shape.

Other then looking at the tensioner, what is the procedure for determining the quality of the timing chain?

Also, Do I need to remove the front cover to check the condition of the timing chain and tensioners?

That info is cryptic. What is nmc and jecs? I assume for example if you have a 75 280 with 4 speed the ecu has to match.

I have noticed a difference between the 75 and 77 ecu's. Same part number but different. The 77 is missing pins and has 2 fins that stick out from the center of the connector
  10. Do the autos and manuals have different spines on the yolk or different lengths?

I found a few slivers of steel in the oil strainer. They are magnetic. Should i pull all bearing caps? Maybe the bearing backing or journals are hosed.

Sounds like the same guy. Neg feedback says same thing. Lesson here: stay clear of this guy or gamble your money away.
  15. Would like to buy used and keep cost down. Spending $20k on a 280z thats would be worth $10k would be foolish.

Any of you arizona Z owners know of a place called clarkcarsofaz. Sells lots of z parts (or trys to) but never answers questions or emails.
  17. I found a guy with a 71 240z driveahaft, its 1" shorter. Are the auto vs manuals versions the same?

I broke a bolt on the water inlet and am having a hard time removing the inlet. Any hints.

I prefer Lojack and a 44 mag. It removes the source of the problem. Someone here mentioned security hardware. Are you talking about the nuts that attach the steering column to the brace? I still think notification and a 44 is the way to go. I live in a county that promotes it.
  24. So will a 260 or 240 driveshaft fit a 280?
  25. Which years came with propeller shafts with replaceable u-joints?
