Pertronix vs Points
I agree with Tony, I am old school and old. Back in the day Z drivers change their pints to the electronic module of the 280 buying a new dizzy was to expensive. then here came Allison ( now Crane ) and now Petronix. I put on the allison back in the 80s and to this day I have not touch it nor adjust it, I even deliver pizzas with my Z and not a problem. When I had the points hmm it run ok some times they burned up I even use the best in those days Blue Streak. I love this forum everybody is nice and very helpful . Is nice we can agree to desagree.

Rev limiting problem at ~4000 rpm
I would not be surprised, I just never seen one light blue, usually they are black or rusty color hahaha. One way to find out, and I may be mistaken, is to look at the top of the coil it will read Bosch.

Rev limiting problem at ~4000 rpm
The old blue coil is not the original coil is made by Bosch. Years ago Bosch made the blue and the red the red was like a super coil. I have the MSD Blaster coil for about 15 years never had a problem with it, I also have the Alison electric Ignition for about 20 years never had a problem with it. ( now I think is made by Crane ) I have not check my timing since then. I like Petronix is very simple but I have never use it. My car revs with not problem. If the back plugs where white, your are lean.

240Z Noob With A Bunch of Questions!
For your question #1. the pipe is to warm the SUs and intake manifold. Here in MS we have about 2 cold months so I removed the pipe. For the other questions the other members have answer. Perhaps you can get another exhaust manifold from another state that does not have the emissions pipes. I have a couple Z cars S30 for parts if I can be of any help let me know.

240 needs new rear will 260 fit
An S30 is an S30 they are some changes but minor compare to what you are about to do. I am not a body man but I can not think of a reason why it would not work. the Gas tank is about the only thing I can think is different everything elese should line up. I imagine you have done a unibody before. If not consult with people that do this type of work.

What are a set of Libre 14's worth?
I like the libre but you are so limited on tires, that is why I use ZX 15.

Will a 5 speed pay for itself?
I do not look at the way you do. A 5 speed is always going to be better specially if you drive on the highway, revs will be low and you will hear better your stereo hahaha . it will help eventually with the economy. You will need also a well tune motor, play with your timimg make sure your valves are adjusted right inflate your tires like GTTE advised use a 10w 30 oil or just 30W. I am old school i never did anything to my car that was going to give me less MPG or less power, if it would give me more power without affecting my mileage I would do it. Play with your spark plug gap get a hotter coil, change to electronic ignition. Maybe you should ask what have we done to our cars to get better mileage.

Front seat wiring question
Yes you guys are right, power seats started with the 300 ( Z31 ) installing seats can be complicated just bolting them and making sure they slide easy. the only power connection is the seat belt warning. some Z31 seats have about three connections ( turbo models ) air motor back rest and seat, not to metion if they are 50 aniv has the speackers. Every thing is possible but must have knowledge , money , time and patience.

Timing
You have to have two perrsons to do this one has to unbolt the oil pump but not drop it all the way down just a little bit the other person needs to turn the shaft into the right position #1. I this will fix your problem.

Pacesetter headers?
ozconnection that PS was funny and I agree with you, we have sports cars. I do not consider mine to be loud, if it is you can always change the muffler.
-
Is this a good header?

Pacesetter headers?
Well Pace setter have been making headers for a long time, they are not bad but if you do not coat them they will not last long. they are other brands that are better but some quit making them. Pacesetter is a good street header. I have use them several times, but like I said they are other brands that are better.

Ignition problem.
If you do not want to go with a nissan part Z blue is right he put the GM module with no problem and is runing great and is only 25. vs 100 and something for a new module you can go with a used one but but down the road it may act up. Zed head is right try to cool it down by puting a cool towel around it and holding it for a few mins.

Ignition problem.
if it is stock but some people do not know if theyt have a stock one, that is why I ask. then again it can be the ECU, but the wht he describes what it does I prety sure is the module.
