  1. IS the car going to run good with it on. Or am I looking at low power. I forgot to mention that it has extra holes on the bottom for cooling is this OK?
  2. I am using dished shaped pistons and an N42 block. I know I cant afford the flat tops.
  3. Well I was trying to find my old post about this, and trying to find a new head, but I couldnt find it so I am starting a new thread. OK, today I found this place, very small place that took me a few times passing it to find it, that repairs cracked heads and is a machine shop. Well I took my head in to have it surfaced on both sides and explain to the guy there what had happened when I got the head from ebay, he told me you know what I may have a head that is the same type that is professionaly rebuilt. Well it turned out it was a rebuilt P79 head and looked like it just came from the factory it was perfect. He tells me I will sell you this one for 125.00! After thinking about it for 5 seconds I said hell yeah. He told me it would change compression a little but there is no core charge for it:classic: . He was an old guy who rebuilt it like four years ago and it has been sitting there the whole time. Well I went over it and everything is set to spec. Now what kind of change in compression am I looking at? Thanks

    Thanks for the info jmortenson, I didnt know that good to know. Arne I think I may have found one from 240zman. But I will email Danny and see how much he wants. Is it totally bare, it does have valve guides and cam towers on it?
  6. You might have, but I think they only go on one way. I would send you a picture of my pedals but my car is at my mother in laws about 20 minutes away. Maybe someone else on here can post a pic of the pedals!

  8. You might want to try and chan ge the slave with a 78 slave, they dont run that much money and it wouldnt hurt.     That is the same site I was just looking at about the P79 mod! thats crazy, but yeah If I cant find another head for cheaper I will go with the shimming. My longer head bolts are 6/16" longer than the shorter bolts so it would work for shimming it, I am just worried about how long the cam tower dowels will go up?

    Hey thanks, and it is an N47 not N57LOL . Typing problems!. Yeah I've had one too many beers too.I'm just messin, but please let me know if they have one! And when are you wanting to sell your P79 head?
  12. To be more precise, there is a spacer on the back of the crankshaft, it doesnt look like a spacer but it has a lip on it and you can pull it with any puller

  14. I beleive kens240 hit it on the head. I had to take that off when I did my swap and I also used an 82 5 speed with the 82 clutch fork and a 78 slave cylinder.

    I was just happy I found a head on ebay:mad: . But If anyone has a P-79 or a an N-47 head they want to sell that is in good shape no cracks or warped please let me know, the P-79 doesnt have the oil bar does it? I figure if I have to shave the head on both sides and get shims, oh and get new valve springs because the ones that are on there are too tall, and new lash pads to compensate for the shims, it would cost about 260.00 for everything :sick: :stupid:. It would just be a big ol mess. So please let me know if you have one preferably N-47. He has good stuff like the fuel pump bloke off plates and small stuff like that, but just dont buy any engine parts from him!

    It is a round port. They go for 600.00 brand new very hard to find N47. I bought this one from ebay from Urgelis. I dont know if you have read that post under one cam tower shimmed, but I was pissed about how I got the head. I paid 380.00 for it and had to put new rockers new lash pads and a new cam on it.

    Wooow, its a good thing I found out before that kind of stuff happened. I knew my timing was off because it was running pretty bad, but I just couldnt figure it out til I bought one of those "how to rebuild nissan & datsun OHC engines" books by tom monroe. He goes into pretty good detail about it. I wish I would have had one of these books while I was doing the rebuild . This is the only place I could find them, http://www.goodson.com/ .     Whats your guys thoughts on installing cam tower shims. My head has been shaved down too much and has changed the timing a bit. I measured my old head and it is 4 2/8" in. from bottom to top and the new one is 4 6/16", it is like 2 16ths off and still needs both sides of it shaved again, the cam tower side needs to be shaved because the middle tower is a little tiny bit higher than the others. I found one place that has them for 13.99 for a set of five that are .015 thick so I will need like four sets, but I was wondering if anyone knew where to get them for cheaper? Thanks
  19. I have a little problem or not. I just took off one of the springs and measured free length and the inner is 53.0 mm and the outer is 53.0 mm. In the service manual it says outer 49.98 and the inner is suppose to be 44.85 mm. Is this bad or are these some kind of performance springs? Shane
  20. OK, I finally got a chance to take the head off because it wasnt raining yesterday, the head gasket came off like it was still new, is this normal? Also there was alot of carbon buildup on the pistons already, is this normal after only 2000 miles on it.

    I bought a head from that same guy on ebay, an N-47 when I got it in the mail the cam had fallen out and ruined the cam towers, the rockers were everywhere in the box along with the lash pads. He also forgot or didnt put the dowels under the cam towers so the towers werent aligned and the cam was also ruined. Just to let you know what a great seller he is, He told me "it must have got messed up during shipping" and that was it. I paid 380.00 and got free shipping so I didnt get insurance on the package. Sorry to stray away from the topic at hand but I had to vent :sick:
  24. Thanks for the replys guys. Today I put the injectors back on they are fine now and hold pressure. But now the car runs like it has a blown head gasket or cracked head:stupid:, now what! I was hoping as I told another guy is that there maybe water in the distributor cap or something like that but there wasnt. . There was water on the spark plugs when I pulled them back out, not coolant but just water, you know that smell when oil and water mix well thats what they smelled like. Oh and I forgot to mention that when I started it up a big ol puff of white smoke came out, "Yikes", what would that be?
  25. Would it make a difference if I took the readings with the engine cold.
