280z~master, you dont mean the connection itself, but more like the connection that goes into the air regulator not where the two connections meet, because mine is really loose too, I hope that makes sense. And datsunzsrule, thanks and let me know which connection is which. Thanks

Will an ear thermometer work, that is all I have. It is more like the type they use at the hospital. I have an ohmmeter but just need to figure out which one is 45 and 46.

I havent had a chance to get over there yet to test the air regulator. How would I go about testing the thermotime switch?

The pressure is at 39-41, I have an aftermarket fuel rail and a pressure gauge mounted on the top of the pressure regulator.

I will definitely check on the power part. Right now my car is about a 20 minute drive from me. I will check it when I get the shifter for it from webdawg

It idles really low at startup and it doesnt do anything when I squeeze the hose thats why I was thinking it was the air regulator. Also could someone tell me what the wires read on there regulator to see if mine match the reading.

My 78 280z is internally regulated but I am not sure about the 75.

Does anyone know how to test the auxillary air valve for operation. I am having problems with the idle at warm up, and I think that might be my cause. My symtems are when I start it it will idle but when I step on the gas it goes up and when I let go it will act like it is going to die. This is only during warm up.

Take your battery to autozone and have them check it for free.

Yeah it runs like a bat outa hell. But now I ran into a problem with the shifter not fitting into the console. I used the original that I got with the 5 speed from pick and pull but for some reason it doesnt want to go into 1st gear because it hits the middle console. I got the 5 speed from a 1979 280zx, I dont know if there is any difference in the shifters, could someone let me know if I have the wrong shifter? Thanks

The only way I could get it to time right is with it one tooth counterclockwise from where the service manual says to put it (11:25) so it is at more like 10:20. But it is running like a champ.

My cam and crankshaft are set exactly like the link you have on here, it is just my oil pump that is off one tooth clockwise.

Montoya, I have played with that adjustment but the way it is it just doesnt work. Have you ever thought that you had your wires in the wrong spot maybe, there is a line on the cap which indicates #1, or maybe your timing chain has stretched.

Thats what I was going to do tomorrow. I didnt have enough time to do it today. That was the only way it worked right was the FSM way, lined up with the bolt holes. There was just one thing I forgot to mention is that when it was running crapy and I had it lined up like the FSM, I forgot to adjust the #8 and #9 valves :paranoid:, oops. So now I will have it running by tomorrow.

I set it like the way you showed me but it wasnt working. The only way it would work right is the FSM way. So tomorrow I have to drain the oil and redo it. It is running awesome though without the screw for the dist hold down in it. and turned alot clockwise. I posted some pics of my finished engine in the (Shifter boot) section. I will let you know how it runs tomorrow. Shane

Well here is the pics of it all together, I fixed the gas leaks and I am still trying to figure out the timing it is still off a tooth or so on the oil pump shaft. OK so I am having problems attaching pictures, I will figure it out later.

Where can you purchase this teflon sealer at. A local parts store. Thanks

First gen Z, I already bought the one off of webdawgg1. But thanks anyways. I finally tried to start the car today, . It has gas leaks on the fuel rail. And the timing is off it looks like I will have to pull the sway bar and redo the oil pump :disappoin . But it started! I need to ask, what is the best sealant for sealing up gas leaks. I have an aftermarket fuel rail and there is threaded plugs that he gave me to plug up the holes that I am not using and those are leaking. I bought this shifter boot for my 280z. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=32869-S30 But when it is in neutral it pull the boot up, is it suppose to be like that or no. I finally got my engine back together havent got to run it yet, I am a little scared to start it because I put 3000.00 into the engine and to have it not start would really upset me. I will post some pics of it tomorrow and pics of the shifter boot to see what I am talking about. Shane

I just went ahead and set it the way the FSM said to do at 11:25 or 11:29. I will see what happens when I start her sunday or monday whenever I get done putting everything back together. Thanks
