  1. What kinds of sealant should I use. I have this one can of purple sealant that has a brush to spread it on really messy but great stuff. I went ahead and took the head back off and got a new gasket to do it right. I have another question about the fuel injection, I am buying an after market pressure regulator and fuel gauge. It is adjustable from 20-85 psi but I am wondering what the fuel pressure is at stock psi.
  2. I used the copper spray stuff for sealant on the head gasket. The timing cover it will not go on the dowels when I try to put it on. In the book it says to only put the two center head bolts on finger tight gefore putting the chain on and then put the timing cover on, then torque the head bolts down. But you guys have put the cover on with the head already torqued down?
  3. I got a new timing chain for my 280z, but am having problems with getting it on. I have the silver links lined up with the timing marks but I want to make sure it is right. Also do I use gasket material on the head gasket or no. I have to take the cylinder head back off because I torqued it down before I put the timing cover on so now I have to get a new head gasket.

Just have a question. I was going to buy an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator and gauge, but I was wondering what the fuel pressure should be at on a stock regulator. Thanks
  5. Would anyone happen to have an extra harmonic balancer for a 78 280z, I broke mine trying to get the dang thing off. The only place I could find one is motorsportZ and they want a little too much and I cant afford it. I am willing to pay for it and shipping any price just not too expensive. I have paypal if anyone has a paypal account if not I can pay by money order or check. Please let me know, it is the only thing I need to get my engine back together. I just need the timing marks to be in the right spot, I am pretty sure 75-78 will work. Thanks, Shane

  7. Here is some pics of the harmonic balancer
  8. Thats true I dont want to adjust it twice, thanks guys. Is there someone on this site that would happen to have a 78 280z harmonic balancer they would sell me. I bought one for a 240z but the timing marks are in the wrong spot, so now I am selling it back on ebay. The guy wrote on there they are a good upgrade for the 280z but you have to change the timing cover on the 280 to a 240z cover. Please let me know and thanks

I just got my rebuilt N-47 head and I need to adjust the valves before I put it on, does anyone know how to adjust them with out the head being on so I can get a good startup when I start the car. Thanks
  10. Well I came to find out that the timing marks are on the opposite side.
  11. Here is a pic of the timing mark, well I guess the file attachment does'nt work. But when you are staring straight at the back of the pulley, the timing mark is at about 10:00 o'clock from the keyway hole, if that says anything.
  12. The original one for my 280z had two belt hookups and so does the 240Z that I just got, here is a link to the ebay pulley. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=7996775020&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT Does it look like it will work?
  13. Whats up ya all, I recently broke my 280z harmonic balancer trying to get the balancer off. Well I ended up bidding an a 240Z balancer on ebay which I won. This is what the guy said about the balancer, I Quote. Description "You are bidding on a used crank or dampner pulley from a 1972 Datsun 240z. These are a great upgrade to your 280z according to some Z-specialty sites, as they are smaller in diameter and higher in RPM's. Regardless, this is a clean, balanced piece with the bolt included to attach to your crankshaft". Does anyone know about this upgrade so to say and is the timing marks the same on these pulleys or is it different. Could someone please let me know. Thanks in advance. Shane
  14. There is a mechanic that is selling an L24 with the L28 guts, pistons rods and crank, head is a E88, it has flattop pistons with .40 over for 1400.00 complete If anyone is interested PM me and let me know. Oh and the engine is located in Fontana CA.

I just recently bought an aftermarket JSK fuel rail. I was wondering if anyone has installed these fuel rails and where they located the fuel pressure regulator and what kinds of things did they use to mount it, it has bolts for mounting it to the stock location but no hardware for mounting it. Is there a way that someone could send me some pics of how they did these two things so I can get some kind of idea on what to do. Thanks in advance. I probably should have posted this in fuel injection but I am a nerd

I wish I wouldve read these posts earlier . I had to buy one for 380.00. It was free shipping and no core charge and now I have a brand new camshaft that I cant use because it comes with one. e racer1999, my old head was missing a liner too, I wonder whats up with that, my exhaust manifold is cracked right where the liner is missing also. So guess what else I have to get An exhaust manifold, does anyone have an N-47 exhaust manifold with no cracks and the EGR hookup that they can give me :nervous: and I will pay shipping through paypal or check or money order. Thanks for the help guys

That one is a little confusing. I have been looking on ebay and found a guy that may have that head. If anyone finds any other ones or sites please let me know. Thanks

Yeah I figured out how to do it, but they dont have my cylinder head. They only have the one for turbo FI and Carb one but not the N-47 with the round exhaust ports and fuel injection. Thanks

Well I took my cylinder head in yesterday and they called me back saying it was cracked . If anyone knows where to get a rebuilt cylinder head or one that doesnt have a camshaft in it because I already bought one before I took it in, please let me know. I need an N-42 with the round ports. Thanks
  21. I have another question, how do you know the difference between a 2+2 and a standard 280z. I am still looking for a flywheel for my Z, that is the only thing that I need for my 5 speed swap and I need a standard one. If anyone happens to have extra one, please let me know. Thanks, Shane
  22. I found some head bolts after I wrote that question at courtesy nissan (expensive but good) http://www.courtesyparts.com/index.html I was able to get the head bolt out too, it had enough bolt left on it to grab it with a pipe wrench (gotta love em). I went ahead and ordered me a new fuel rail also new fuel injector gaskets :classic: . I went to pick and pull and got a fuel injector, the fuel injector cooler/blower dont know how good they work but it was half off and got a 240sx throttle body boot and the pedal assembly which doesnt work and another 240sx throttle body, I got it all for 61.00
  23. Thanks for the reply. Do you know where to get new head bolts for it.
  24. Well I finally got the top half of the engine apart and here is what I have found, (so far). Well first of all I broke of one of the head bolts eeeek . Then I found that the #5 injector tip was cracked. The exhaust manifold was cracked right down the middle, the exhaust stud was broken off (not by me). And I also took the intake in to have it bored out for the new throttle body which is going to cost 200.00. And I always wondered why my car ran like s--t, now I know. Well tomorrow is half off at pick and pull so I will be heading down there to get an exhaust manifold and a head bolt and whatever else I need for the 5 speed swap. My question is what type or year Z injectors will work on my 78. Thanks in advance

Yeah it is an automatic. I have mostly all of that except for the flywheel and the starter. I am not sure which tranny I got from pick and pull but if I have fs57wb tranny it will bolt right up to the driveshaft my pedal assembly has the hole for the clutch pedal bolt and the spring. The firewall already has a hole for the master cylinder too :classic: . Thanks for the help and will have to get the manual starter.
