  1. That is a wild setup you got there ED, how did you go about putting two head gaskets on there, did you use sealant on the head saver shim on both sides to seal? That sounds like a good idea, you think it will work with stock head bolts? That kit from summit seams a little more reasonable in price I think I will get one of them there beakers and cc me head!

Does anyone know what the part # is for a 78 thermo time switch. I dropped my thermostat housing and the connection broke:disappoin . I was testing it before it broke and I wasnt getting good readings anyways and on top of that the bolts broke of in the bottom thermostat housing part, if its not one thing its another:sick: . The #'s on mine are A23-601000 and it says 19.5 degrees C and 9 sec. It also has 9315 and JECS on it. I just want to know if this is the right thermotime switch. Thanks
  3. Phred is the one that I bought the flat top pistons from:classic: . I also found this one set but it is a little expensive. http://www.precisionmeasure.com/block15.htm
  4. I found a kit for measuring the cc's here. http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1338 I dont really have alot of money to spend right now so I will just get whatever is cheap.

Are you using the 77 distributor or the 78? how many pickup coils are in the 77 compared to the 78 distributor or I should say how many wires?
  6. Yeah that would bite, to blow it without a trailer out in the middle of nowhere. I could only find a set of cam tower shims at goodson for 15.00 but they are only .015 mm in height, you cant really get .080 out of those so I dont think I am going to go that route. But I will port it out a little or just sand it with cloth to get the imperfections out. How do you go about measuring the cc's of the head though?
  7. So that machine shop guy was giving me a load of crap. What kind of gasket did you use? I am using this program Lengine.exe, how do you measure the cc's of a head so I can type that into the head cc's measurement?
  8. I was talking to a machine shop guy and he says that I will blow rings anything past 10.1:1! For a stock L28 what is the best rings, moly, cast iron or chrome, I know chrome ones are for off road but what about chrome steel top rings or this link says it all, is that the same thing as chrome rings?:lick: I am looking for ones that are good with a 30 degree crosshatch and street driving. But the price on these looked good! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8006348370&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
  9. I just have a question because I am still new to this. I have a question for all the people that have raised compression to 10.1:1. I was thinking about doing the mod that this guy has in his post. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/head.html Buuut! What kind of rings would you have to use to keep them from blowing! And what kind of other mods besides header and more breathing through throttle body ETC. would you have to do to actually make it scream! I know the difference between rings and how to crosshatch the cylinders for the right rings but do you have to get performance rings from say http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc? or can I just use stock rings. I will just ask this question! Has anyone ever actually done this mod and what kind of performance did you get?

There should be a flip open box above the AFM mounted on the side wall , that has two terminals with nuts on them and a green and red wire. Hope this helps
  11. Also what about the extra coolant hole in the P79 head. Is this a problem or will a felpro work good for keeping the gasket from corroding
  12. Yeah, I just got a P79 about 2 weeks ago. So they will fit! The rods are the same length arent they? what kind of power am I looking at(horsepower)
  13. I just read this again and realized how stupid I am. I meant to say will standard F54 flat top pistons fit into an N42 standard bore block:rolleyes:

Did you do a compression test?
  15. Mixing up the injector wires might do that too. My 2cents
  16. I have one of the How to rebuild your nissan/datsun engine books. But it doesnt have anything about changing to different pistons. The above compression #'s came from lengine.exe, but with a felpro gasket. I have an L28 block from a 78' but I was just wondering if F54 standard size pistons and rods would fit into a standard bore L28 or if anyone has ever tried it. Thanks
  17. I have a P79 head thats why I was wondering, from what I have found is that if I put flat tops with a P79 head my compression will go up to 8.71:1. With the way it was before with an N47 and dished pistons it was only 8.47:1. Thanks for the info guys
  18. Thanks for the info. But will the pistons and rods from an F54 fit into an L28, I just dont want to have to change the block
  19. That brings me to another question. Will F54 pistons and rods fit into an L28 if they are standard?
  20. I just figured out that this is a pretty much dumb question.:stupid: Does the 78-80 use the same pistons? What years did flat tops come in the picture? And what years Zx's came with the F54 block?
  21. Is there a big difference between 1980 flat top pistons and 81', I looked up piston rings for both years and there is a difference between the rings. The 80' one uses the same rings as a 78, but the 81' uses the same rings as an 82'. The reason I ask is because I am buying some flat tops off of someone on this site but am not sure if they are 80' or 81' flattops. I was hoping to use the same rings from the rebuild I have already done but am not sure if I can. Thanks

Does anyone know anything about a Honda NV750 custom motorcycle and how much it is worth. The reason I ask is because a friend just got one for free and it is sitting in my backyard and I am going to mess with it to (try to) get it running. I looked it up online and could not find anything out about it and makes me wonder how many they made and what it is worth!

Have you checked to see if the cam sprocket lines up with the cam thrust plate, the notch on the back of the sprocket should line up with the notch in the thrust plate at TC. Just something to look at!
  25. What is normal compression for a stock L28.
