Z is for Zoo
Good question. I don't see any holes in the steering wheels. It has chrome bullet mirrors, aluminum slots and an Amco front bumper over rider. Chuck

Man Garage
Here's mine. It's just about done. I wish it was bigger. Some cars will have to stay in the other garage - 1978 Datsun 620KC, 1975 Datsun 280Z, Fiat Abarth, Mini Cooper S, etc. I have a little more drywall and insulation to do. The left side is a barn area for the horses. The smaller room is a clean room for painting and doing simple jobs. I put 6 4' LED lights in the walls to make it easier to see when painting. The thicker concrete is for a 2-post lift. Chuck

What's Your Multimeter?
I have an older fancy Fluke and a couple simple Craftsman meters. I also have an older Craftsman meter device to check RPM, dwell, etc. I usually use the simple Craftsman. Sometimes to check voltage I use one of those light bulbs built into a pointy screwdriver things. My gf has an old SImpson analog meter like my dad used to use at work. Chuck

Series-1 Hatch Vent Duct Clips & Restoration Info Needed
I've never seen a metal hatch grill. I have lots of early metal emblems but no metal hatch grills. I've owned a 71 & 72 510 wagon with hatch grills and I believe both are plastic as well. Chuck

fender question
It should have a very slight crown to it. The entire top of the fender has a crown to it. IIRC the crown decreases as you work your way back to the windshield. Chuck

Front Suspension - Removal of Complete Assembly
Don't bother cleaning and painting. Take everything apart and take it to Coating Concepts in Carlisle to have it blasted and powder coated. They did my race car suspension and ceramic coated my header 5 years ago and it all still looks great. http://www.coatingconcepts.net/ Chuck

240z's First Race in USA?
That's at the Cumberland Airport in Cumberland, MD. I've done their auto-x there a few times. It doesn't sound like it was the Z's first race - "Sharp, who was already running Datsun's factory-backed race operations on the East Coast, finished this race second in the C Production class.'' Here's a link. https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hsx/2013/09/Skirmish-on-the-National-Road/3729371.html Here's a link to the Cumberland races. There are some really cool photos of vintage racing. Penske and Shelby raced there. http://www.nationalroadrally.com/tradition.html Chuck

How soon do you need it done? What needs to be done? Everything? Just rebuild mechanicals and assemble? What year Z? Any/many missing parts? I'm in south central PA but could do it later this year. Chuck

Bill's EFI Drama AKA A Game of Name that Component!
I raced mostly mtb but also raced road and cross. Did it for about 20 years. I raced for Team Sourbeer, Yellow Breaches Racing, Gettysburg Bicycle and Mountain Bikers of Michaux. I stopped a couple years ago when tennis and golfer's elbow in BOTH elbows! I'm almost better so I hope to get back on the bike in the spring. I'm close to Mont Alto/Teaberry (southern Michaux) so I'll probably ride there a lot. What's your name? Chuck Buczeskie

Let's show vintage racing pictures. I'll start.

Stop Tech Slotted Brake Rotors
I don't know what 126-42004SL fits. 12642011SL and 12642011SR are slotted and should fit. I have 12742011L and 12742011R which are drilled and slotted. I bought them when I was building a friend's car but he decided to go with a different setup. They're new in the box and I'd like to sell them since I can't use them on my race car. I use CarboTech pads (http://www.ctbrakes.com/) on the race car. They have several different compounds. Chuck

Panasport: Z light suitable for street?
I did some searching and it looks like the new wheels aren't specifically for race use only. There's nothing on any of the wheels that I saw and nothing in the ads warning that they're for race use only. If it were me I'd buy a set for the street. Chuck

Panasport: Z light suitable for street?
I have a set of "FOR COMPETITION USE ONLY" and regular Panasports that I use on the race car. I'm sure that the race wheels can handle street use but they're clearly marked on the lip in big letters so I wouldn't use them on the street. But that's just me. If you can find a good set of 15x7 race wheels I'll trade you my 15x7 street wheels for them. Chuck

Hauling a Z on a trailer
The Lexus should tow it but I'd make sure not to go too heavy on the hitch. I clip the front straps into the holes in the Z's front crossmember and use straps that pass through the rear wheels. Both sets are crossed in an X pattern like in your pic. I put the car in gear and pull the hand brake on tight before strapping it down. Instead of parking on a hill you can just crank up the front of the trailer to change the angle. My race car has maybe 3-4" of clearance at most and I've never scraped in the ramp/bed transition. But I often have the air dam scrape on the ramps. I doubt if a Z at stock height would rub. Don't drive too fast. I think the speed limit is 55 or 65 in CA when pulling a trailer. Chuck

Hauling a Z on a trailer
In pic #6 the car is centered because he has a tire rack, wheels/tires and a big storage box at the front. He's also using an SUV so he can't have as much tongue weight. You want the Z a little forward on most open trailers to keep the weight forward just a bit as shown in pics 1&2. I keep my race car as far back as I can in my box trailer because I have so much stuff up front. Chuck

Hauling a Z on a trailer
I've done it many times with my race car, buying/moving cars and helping my friend move Zs over the years. You can put some tape on the car like a like of people do for track days. I wouldn't put a cover on it. It'll just flap in the wind and probably do more harm than good. Your first two pics look good but #3 has the car too far forward. I cross brace in the front and rear. What kind of truck are you using to haul it? I've been using a 2006 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Hemi 1500 and it'll do the job with ease if you position the car correctly on the trailer. Chuck

Another Try at the Z World
Welcome! How much are you looking to spend? Is there a year of 240Z that you prefer? Are you looking for a totally stock Z or modified? I'm about an hour south of you. I can keep an eye out for you. Chuck

1971 Internet Auction
Yeah. I have spare L6 engines and have considered them for the 620 and 510 but it would be a lot of work. I'll stick with the stock engine for the wagon. I might put a set of SUs on it. Chuck

1971 Internet Auction
I saw it CL and the price was right so we got it. I had a 1971 510 wagon that I traded away a couple years ago for a 1971 Fairlady Z. This one is red and has a 5-speed. The original 4-speed came with it. The car runs but IDK if it drives. It came with new weatherstripping and a bunch of other new and used parts. The car is pretty solid overall but I'll probably put it on the rotisserie and make sure that all the rust is properly repaired. The yellow thing in the roof is a spare LF door. Chuck
