  1. You'll want to lower it at least an inch or it'll look weird. You'll want the wheels to be at least 8" wide. You'll have to cut out the fender lips so the tires don't rub. I think I'm running 245/45/16 and they could be wider. I'll probably put some wheel spacers in there the next time I have the wheels off. Chuck

  7. I have a 1975 280Z race car and had to find ways to eliminate weight. Modern gauges Remove unneeded wires Aluminum radiator 15x7 aluminum wheels Remove any unneeded brackets Header Replace window regulators with power windows Aftermarket windshields are said to be thinner/lighter R160 diff Coil overs Chuck
  8. Yep. You'll have to clean out the grease after the piston pops out. Keep your fingers out of the way just in case! Chuck
  9. That's what I'm thinking too. Long collar with thinner 240Z clutch. Short collar with taller 280Z clutch. Combined height on both is the same. Chuck
  10. That should do it. I think I used a grease gun years ago. Threaded it on and pumped... Chuck
  11. I installed my race engine last night by myself so it's fresh in my head. I had it bolted up in about 20 minutes. Easy job. :-) Make sure the clutch fork and collar are on the trans. Jack up the front of the trans until it almost hits the firewall. You want it angled upward. Attach the chain to the engine so it's tilted at the same angle. Make sure your motor mounts are on the engine. Lower the engine in slowly. Once it's close to lining up with the clutch carefully sllip your hand between the engine and trans to feel how close the trans shaft is to lining up with the clutch. Raise or lower the engine as needed and check again. Once the shaft starts to go into the clutch look at the block to trans gap. You want it to be the same at the top and bottom. Raise or lower the engine and/or trans as needed. Push and wiggle the engine onto the trans. At some point (if you have it lined up properly) it'll pop into place. Bolt the trans to the engine, remove the jack from under the trans and bolt on the motor mounts. Done! Chuck
  12. You might want to go with a braided fuel hose for behind the engine. My friend wrecked his Z and it pushed the engine into the firewall causing the fuel line to be cut. Fuel sprayed on the hot engine and... Chuck

  14. In the world of Zs "matching numbers" means that the chassis number and engine number match the plate in the engine compartment. They are most likely two very different numbers but they match the numbers in the factory's stamped plate. Based on what EuroDat said above Datsun probably stopped stamping the engine number on the plate in 1977. I'm pretty sure that my 1975 280Zs have the engine number on the plate. Chuck
  15. Look at the plate in the engine compartment. It should have a chassis number and engine number. Are they ever the same? Chuck
  16. I haven't driven that car in months but I think the problem I had was that I couldn't rotate the mirror enough to get the correct angle. I think the mirror should have been mounted forward another inch if possible. The car's under cover in the garage but I'll see what I can do. The field of vision is much better with the racing mirrors. But the bullets look really cool to me so I'm glad that I went with them. The bullet's a smaller mirror so it's not going to perform as well. I think I have more pics on facebook. You can maybe see them there or add me as a friend. Chuck Buczeskie
  17. I have bullets on my blue 260Z (above) and black racing style on my race cars. I like the look of the bullets better but the racing style works much better. Chuck
  18. I'd make sure that the cap, rotor and coil wire are good. Then I'd check the smaller ignition wires. Maybe a mouse/mole/groundhog was hungry. Yes, I've had that happen! Make sure there's voltage to the coil. Maybe the coil is going bad? Chuck
  19. It'll be a good show for the Z folks this year. Peter Brock will be there and Nissan is bringing up his BRE 510 road race car. My brother emailed Carl Beck to see about getting his BRE 240Z up here, too. I'll have a 5 vendor spaces full of Z stuff for sale. I'm thinking of bringing 5 Datsuns and a Lotus Elise to show.   20. Will you be bringing the car up to Carlisle for the East Coast Z Nationals/Import Show in May? I'd love to see it in person. Chuck
  21. Have you removed the tail panel trim and 1/4 window trim? Once everything is out of the way you might have to bend/flex the panel to clear the strut bracket. Maybe you could use a heat gun or hair drier to make the panel more flexible. Chuck

  24. I liked the movie and was surprised to see the 280Z. It sure looked rough though. The engine sounds weren't sampled from a Datsun. Did anyone see "30 Minutes or Less"? There was a 280ZX in a lot of the movie. Chuck
  25. I'm friends with Jeff lucas and John Legg(owner) who raced the Spirit of DC 240Z and I'm pretty sure that they replaced the brake pads. They would have been using Hawk or Carbotech. We are using Carbotech now. Chuck
