  1. Are you talking to me or Jeff G 78? I'll probably be selling my ITS 280Z soon since I got the 240z. It's hard to justify having both. :-( Chuck
  2. If you're talking about the unit on the right kick panel then I have one. The 240Z doesn't have one and I think the 280Z unit is different. I have both a 260Z and 280Z unit. Chuck
  3. It worked fine for me. Thanks for posting! Chuck
  4. No bike rack on this car. My blue and silver Zs have racks. The Road Runner doesn't need a rack. The trunk's plenty big! I'd like to get a hitch for my Lotus so I can haul a biek or two. No mud flaps? What if they're Datsun mud flaps??? Chuck
  5. My friend races a 240Z and his is also an older build and doesn't go all the way down either. My door bars will be similar to yours except mine join at the back. I like the location of your dash bar. Should be plenty of room for you knees! Any interference with your gauges? Chuck
  6. It does land at the bottom of the cage. The main hoop is attached to the front of the inner wheel house. The car and cage were built back in 1993. My concern today has been making the door bars SCCA ITS legal. From what I understand I need two bars connecting the front and main loop. It can be in an X or NASCAR bars. Nascar bars are defined as "consist of one or more sidebars that intrude into the door cavity and connect the main hoop to the front hoop". So...I plan to replace my upper door bars with bars that intrude into the door cavity and leave the lower diagonal pars in place. I'll connect the door bars together with a couple pieces of tubing per side. Chuck
  7. I picked this up last Friday night. It's won many races and 3 MARRS Championships. I need to install some NASCAR door bars but otherwise it's ready to race. I was hoping to race my 280Z all year but Marty needed to sell his 240Z now and I couldn't pass it up. Chuck
  8. I've had many that are hard to get into reverse. Try putting it in 3rd and then into reverse. Chuck
  9. The cutting, welding and painting is the fun part! If you were closer I coupld probably help you out with the metal work. Chuck
  10. So far everything sounds easy to fix. Yeah, the floors/frames take some time but they aren't hard to do. You might want to drill out the battery tray to get better access to the rust and hole under it. It'll be easier to weld in a patch from up top too. Chuck
  11. I hate throwing anything away too. I'll take the grease seals if you still have them! Chuck
  12. I'd fix it. It doesn't seem that bad to me. Zedd Findings sells nice floors/frames and the other areas are easy to make by hand. How are the rear wheel arches, battery area and front shock towers? Chuck
  13. The mushy feeling is gone and there is some crispness. I can feel it click into place but it's not overly mechanical. There's a hint of mush. I have a 1970 Road Runner and it's very mechanical. I can feel the lever flex before it clicks into place. That's not a good feeling. Chuck
  14. I cleaned and lubed mine and it works fine. I hate it when those little things don't work properly. Chuck

    Lol!

Are there pictures of it at the 1978 show? Keep in mind that this car was built in 1978 so of course it looks dated now. I'm sure it was hot looking back then. Times change. Something's fishy with this car. I don't buy the 14k miles. I don't think those wheels were around in '78. Hmmm...5-lug wheels??? Same for the fender vents, Super Coil, air intake, mirrors, etc. Chuck

    Lol!

That's an Accel Super Coil. Chuck

    Carpet kits

I know that they used to sell loop and cut pile. It used to cost a lot less too! Chuck

  20. Matching numbers would matter on a 1969 and maybe a 1970 240Z. It makes little difference on the others. Installing a turbo motor in your "wrecked" car will probably increase its value. Just do what you want and have fun with them! Chuck
  21. Thanks, guys! I'll post official results as soon as I get them. Chuck
  22. Here are some pictures of Sunday's race. No more novice stripes! Chuck
  23. It was a very busy weekend! Check it out... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46326&p=401085#post401085 Chuck
  24. It was a crazy weekend. I showed up at 5pm on Friday and found Jeff helping work on his son's Miata. Nate went there early Friday to spend the day testing and to make sure the trans was in good shape. On his 3rd lap he blew a shift and bent all the valves. A Miata guy there owns a local machine shop and rebuild the head in just a few hours. When I pulled up they were getting ready to start it. Cylinder #3 was dead. Ed York came over and in less than a minute determined that he had a pumped up lifter. It fixed itself and engine was good. In qualifying Saturday Nate was doing well until he put a hole in the side of the block. Can his weekend get any worse??? Jeff and I went out in the next session. Jeff's 240Z was fast as usual and qualified with the fastest time. My car started out ok an then got slower and slower. On my 6th lap the car got very weak, wouldn't rev past 5k and started to smoke. I pulled into my paddock spot and could hear a tapping in the engine. Cylinder #3 had low compression. Nate and I were done for the day. I still qualified 11th out of 15 cars in ITS. Jeff won Saturday's ITS race in his 240Z! Nate and I loaded up our cars and headed home early Saturday. He and John Legg had a spare engine and went to work installing it. The only possible spare I had was an L28 that broke a cam at Summit Point years ago. I worked on removing the bad engine and prepping the "new" one till 10:30pm. The cam, rockers, lash pads, Datsun Comp oil pan, etc. were transferred over. At 6:30am Sunday I was back at it. Jeff and Denise came over at 7:30 and pitched in. They left at 10:30 so they would have time to prep Jeff's car for Sunday's 20-lap race. Jamie and I finished bolting everything on and it fired up. Yay! We quickly loaded it onto the trailer and headed down to the track. Nate and his Miata were there and ready to go. Jeff needed some brake pads. Good thing I had a new set of Carbotech XP12s with me. I had time to warm up the engine and check the timing. It sounded good...or at least good enough. Nate had to drop out early because of transmission problem. It was a really bad weekend for him. I started 9th and Jeff was on the pole. My yellow 280Z was strong at the start. I got by the E30 325i but he soon passed me back. On the 4th lap I got into the gas too hard coming out of turn 5 and went into the dirt. The BMW got big gap but I slowly gained on him for 3 more laps. Then he was gone. My car seemed to lose some power. A couple laps later the track became slick. After a couple more laps my brakes were overheating. I was just hanging on and trying to finish while weaving through the ITB cars. It seemed like the race would never end! Jeff won and I finished 9th. The best part was that I successfully completed my 2nd race and was able to remove my 3 novice stripes! Chuck
