  1. I have to get a new one. The 35 year warranty just ran out. lol Chuck
  2. It has the early fan and E31 head but not the 2400 valve cover. Based on the car's originality I'm guessing that they used up the 2400 covers before this one was built. I have some spares it's supposed to have one. Rust? Yes. Left shock tower has a little, some under the battery tray, both inner fenders by the firewall panel and both rear wheel arches. It's better than most Zs here in PA. I've fixed much worse. Chuck
  3. As long as my race car holds together this year I should be able to find time to help. :-) Chuck
  4. I saw it CL a few weeks ago. It looks pretty nice. Chuck
  5. My friend Aaron sent me a link to a Z for sale up in Harrisburg on Sunday. I took a quick look at some pictures and told the guy that I'll get it on Monday. It's a 1-owner car. Everything is original except for the wheels, header (stock manifold included) and radio. It came with Clymer and Chilton manuals, owners manual and the manual for the Craig cassette player. The car has been parked and stored inside since 1983. A couple of the hose clamps aren't original and the dash has a couple cracks. The worst rust is the rear wheel arches. I have some NOS quarters that were put on my parts car so they'll go on this one. The hatch area is rock solid. The hood, doors and hatch are solid as well. It came with some extra parts and receipts from the late 70s. I plan to restore the car this winter. Chuck
  6. I've seen it many, many times too. I figured it was for clearance to the cowl. Chuck

It looks good but you need to have a machinist check it out. Chuck
  8. Yes. That's an AAR 'cuda. Vitamin C orange, numbers matching, 4-speed, bucket seats... I always wear gloves. I'll wear a mask in tight spaces where there isn't good ventilation. I wear "headphones" that cover my ears and keep the harsh sounds out. Safety glasses and shields always allow debris to bounce around and end up in an eye. I've had good luck with the goggles so far. I once had a piece of metal get stuck in my eye that the Dr. had to remove. And then he ground my eyeball with a little die grinder. Fun times... Chuck
  9. Glad I could help! LOL. You can do it from inside the car but it's a pain. And I always find a way to get metal shavings in my eyes when I do that. I recently replaced the trunk floor in my AAR. I bought good goggles and hearing protection so I could grind all those welds inside the trunk safely. Good luck! Chuck
  10. The best way is to put it on a rotisserie, flip the car over and use a spot weld cutter on the floor. Welding form the underside makes it a lot quicker and easier to grind down your welds. Chuck
  11. I think A is the lower part of the inner panel below 1/4 window. It extends down into the rocker area for more support. Chuck

I'd guess that's for your ignition to the coil when the car is running. It's bypassed when cranking to start. If your Z has been converted to electronic ignition then the resistor might not be there. Look next to your coil. Chuck

I'd love to restore them but they're too far away to make it worth my time. I wish I had a 3-car trailer. Chuck

If you remove the engine and trans the job will be much easier! Chuck

I've fixed/replaced most of that before. How's the frame on the engine side? Chuck
  18. Another option is to remove the strut tops, heat them to remove the rubber insert, cut 1" (or whatever) off the rubber, insert into the metal cup and then fold the metal sides over to hold it in place. You'll want to cut 4 slices in the metal side to fold it over in 4 sections. Does that make sense? Chuck
  19. It looks correct to me...or at least close. It's the first pic. It might have to cut off a few inches since it's usually too long. Clean it well so the glue will hold. I use paint sticks and clamps to hold it on place while it dries. Chuck
  20. It seems like you have a lot of binding with that sway bar. I use an aftermarket bar and it pivots easily in the bushings so there's no issue connecting the end links. Maybe you can use a C clamp or something to pull the sway bar closer. Chuck
  21. I understand. Hope you recover soon! Chuck

  24. I have 5 vendor spots at Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals/East Coast Z Nationals May 18-20. My friend who usually sells Z/Miata parts with me isn't coming up from Myrtle Beach this year. I'm looking for 1-2 people who have some Z parts to sell and want to share my vendor spots. The only thing I want in return is someone to watch my stuff so I can get out and enjoy the show now and then. Info on the show is here: http://www.carlisleevents.com/carlisle-events/carlisle-import-and-performance-nationals/default.aspx I've attached some pics during setup last year. If you're interested or have questions email me. cbuczesk@comcast.net Chuck
  25. I just watched the show last night. Two new distributors were bad? I highly doubt it. It was either tv drama or more likely something else was wrong. I noticed in a later clip that they were back to using a new distributor again. Why put all that dynamat down to quiet the car but then not put it in the hatch area and also not put in a rear carpet? They also installed a fancy headliner but left off the vinyl that runs along the A pillar and roof. What's up with that? The tach and speedo are small for the openings and the other three were too far forward. The editing could be better. He was driving the Toyota or some other car but showed a Z dash. The were some other inconsistencies too. He said they had (was it only 8 hours?) into fixing the two front fenders including paint. I don't see how that's possible especially since he was having so much trouble welding. It would have been quicker/cheaper to get a couple new fenders and work with them. Maybe that was to show their welding/body/paint skills on tv? I'm a little OCD so I pick up on that stuff and it bothers me. lol. Anyway, I liked the show and set the DVR to record it. Is anyone here familiar with the shop? This is the first I've heard of them and I've been a Z guy for 30+ years. Chuck
