for less than I spent on my Z. I dont agree with your friend at all. Speed and beauty cost money. How good do you want to look while you go how fast?? Seriously, you can spend as much or as little on either car. Comparing a Camaro to a Z car is kinda silly in my opinion. Two totally different animals. I love both. But pick which one you like and stick with it. That is the key to any successful build. You will always lose money if you dont. Good luck!!

I vote for either the gray or silver. I dont like the gold, it looks too bling blingy! The black looks good too though...

The thing I found (Or didnt find?) using the search function for the Z bumpers is noone has a good description of "HOW" they physically mounted the damn things to the 280. Yea, lots of people say "its been done, ask so and so" or "Ive done it" or "Do a search" but not one person has really explained what is needed to do the swap. Or atleast I havent found it. I just assumed everyone knew what they were talking about, ordered the parts I thought I needed, and then modified them to work. It isnt a complete bolt on swap but it isnt impossible either. I had to make custom brackets for the rear bumper, mainly because the originals I got were less than straight and I also wanted to tuck the bumper in close to the body. The front brackets (70-72 only) worked but I had to do some re-shaping to get them to align properly. I used the front spoiler for a 280 so I could keep my 280 turn signals but the 240 lights will work if you use a 240 valance or spoiler (preferably spoiler to save more modification) in the front. On the rear, you will have to remove the filler panel and re-paint the area. You will need to remove the fuel tank to remove the shock absorbers also so you can mark, drill and install the bolt on the right side quarter panel. So yea, maybe my Z isnt up to the concourse some Z snobs demand but it looks damn good and a hell of a lot better than the big crash bumpers. Not to mention, I have fuel injection and a/c that work! Now its time to get out of the z car club. I am really getting sick of car forums, can you tell?

I feel your pain. At least you weren't hurt from the sound of it. Which is good! Good luck finding what you need.

Not sure about the radiator. The booster does...I think. Seems like some people use them when they convert to the ZX rear disc brakes. So unless you are using the rear brakes Im not sure what benefit you will get from it. It may be too much for your stock brakes. Im sure there are people on here who know better than I do though.

Welcome! Yea, the bumpers on the 280 are a little unsightly. (Sorry to anyone who likes them!) I am in the process of adding a front air dam and converting to 240 bumpers on my 78 280. It is gonna look awesome if you ask me! I cannot wait! I just finished painting the air dam. The brackets are made for the rear bumper but I have to finish repairing the rust under the hatch and then re-paint some in the rear area. Its not hard to do but be patient with it. BTW...Hopefully you live in Montana at speeds of 100+

If your chrome is damaged, (i.e. pitting) then the only way to fix it is re-chrome it. Nothing will take those out. Sorry...but hey! Gives you a reason to re-chrome it and think how good it will look!

I'd be in, but there isnt much I can do living in Tucson. Keep us posted if you do end up doing something. I may be able to come up for some events/etc.

HAHA! Yea...good point. There were only a few that had first gen Z's. Gary seemed to me to be a very knowledgable guy and friendly too. But I feel your pain. If you think Phoenix is bad for clubs...try coming to Tucson! We aint got itshay here!

Hey! There is a great z car club in Phoenix. www.desertzassociation.com They do a lot of runs and meetings/shows. I wish something like that existed in Tucson! I'd do more if there was. Peace

  21. Yes, that flex agent will definitely make a difference! I plan to use it. If the only problem with the urethane is the high speed issue then it definitely sounds like the better choice. I have no problem making some brackets to reinforce it a little. I really hate the idea of doing 'glass work!
  22. Thanks Mike. I have heard that also. I realize the paint will get screwed up either way but doing fiberglass work then paint is a whole heck of a lot more work than repainting alone. Can the urethane dam be reinforced somehow to alleviate that problem?
  23. I am nearing the time to order the air dam for my Z. I see that MSA offers them in both fiberglass and urethane. Is one better than the other? It seems like the urethane is the better choice because it isnt going to get busted up so easily. Last thing I want is having to repaint every six months because I screw it up coming into my drive or something. Any opinions? Advice? Thanks!
