I have not had that problem in my Z. Thankfully! I have replaced all of the weatherstrippig thuogh. Not because it smelled but because I painted the car. I really believe you can eliminate the smell with out having to keep the windows up all the time! Good luck! ROOPZ

Oh Man!! I feel for you. That sooo pisses me off. Even more so that cops will not do any thing about it. Thats how it is here. A-holes on the road are never seen and cause such grief...but dont you dare go 5 mph over the speed limit especially in a speed trap!! Unfortunately there is no money in it for the cops to respond to your problem. Maybe you should have offered them money! Sorry if I offend anyone...but cops are not exactly on my list of high respect when it comes to situations like this. I have had the same thing happen to me more than once. Peace ROOPZ
  4. Its just my opinion..but if you have the money...buy the steel quarter panel. That fiberglass may be nice but it isnt original, it is covering up the original and therefore will not give you the same body line without a LOT of bondo work. (i.e. it will stick out further from the car bu the thickness of the panel itself.) And it is not going to keep the metal under it from rusting either. I have a 68 Camaro that needed new quarters on it and i tried to skimp and bought the re-pro skins. Big mistake...I ended up buying NOS quarters and having them installed. Very expensive lesson for me. I know it is a hard decision and I wish you luck! ROOPZ

Hey Everyone! I am so excited because I finally got rid of that damn clunk in my rear end!! I had already changed bushings/ujoints/struts/etc a year ago but it was still there and got louder as time went by. I bought a new diff from an 89 300ZX and put that in last night and WOW!! what a difference. It is soooo much quieter now!! I havent taken the cover off of the old one yet to see what was wrong but something was worn inside. Just wanted to share my excitement. Have a good one! ROOPZ

I was wondering about the possibility of putting a Holley projection unit on a L6. Has anyone done this? If you used a four barrel intake and the holley projection it seems it might be a fairly inexpensive way of getting better fuel injection. Any thoughts? What gave me the idea was a link I saw here for supercharging the L6. Jim Cook racing. He is using the holley projection on a small supercharger. The Nissan fuel injection was great for its time but it seems to have many flaws in it. I wonder what the effects of using a throttle body would be over the port injection. Couldnt you use this in turbocharging also? Just some thoughts going through my mind. (Imagine that!)
  7. Here is a guy in Phoenix parting out a 280ZX. I was going to buy the 5 speed from him but other things are calling for my money at the moment! I know it is a long way from you but just wanted to let you know. http://www.desertzassociation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=98
  8. Isnt that car in the motorsport ads? It looks pretty good. I can appreciate the work it took. But yea...14's is not that fast. What is funny is...in the ad he says you could drive it across the county if you wanted. hee hee! I hope he means country!
  9. Personally I do not care for the big arse wings on any car. Race cars...fine. But a car that is meant to be driven on public roads...it seems useless. As for the down force. I always thought (I dont really know mind you.) that the Z's had a problem of front end lift at high speeds. Wouldnt a wing worsen this condition? Obviously that is assuming no front spoiler. (rpmZ) I do love the car though. (yella delight) it is a beautifully done car and I would like for mine to look so nice! I also must compliment you on the website. Very cool!

I have always heard that draining water spins in the opposite direction from the way it does in the northern hemisphere. Is there any truth to this?!! I have never been in the southern half and am curious. My Fluids professor mentioned it. I dont understand the reason why... but I will. Roopz

Hello Everyone! I am looking for an R200 from the 88-89 300ZXT. I think I have found one at a salvage yard 2 hours away. He says he has one anyway. My question is: How can I be certain this is an LSD short of opening it up? Is there any markings etc that would identify it? And is 250 a good price for such an item? Roopz
  14. I suppose I should introduce myself as well! First off, thanks to everyone who asnswers my sometimes :stupid: questions! I am Aaron from sunny Arizona! 33, married no kids (DINK's) I work for the Arizona Air National Guard and am a student at the UofA. Optical/Mechanical engineering major. I have been going to school forever it seems. My life is school, work and school! Occasionally I get to work on one of my 4 cars. My 78 Z is my daily driver. I have loved Z's since my brother had one when I was 12 years old. I have had two, and some parts cars. I also am a Camaro freak. <dodging rocks, tomatoes, etc> I have a 68 and a 73. Along with my 82 Mustang, and my 99 Yamaha R1. I love cars! I want one of everything! I love this site also so thanks to all who contribute!! ROOPZ

Yea, I hate those rear end noises. I have the same problems with my car. I have come to the conclusion I need a new diff so I guess I will just upgrade while I am at it!! heehee LSD R200! I have the noise coming from the rear end and it is not the mounts, bushings,or ujoints (Everything is new). I am certain it is coming from the diff itself as when the car is off the ground you can turn the wheel a good distance before the driveshaft begins to move. So if the car bucks or letting off the throttle you can hear the clunk. I also get a "ticking" noise while in reverse. I too get the ~HOT~ gear shifter after driving for a period of time. I always assumed it is the exhaust heating it up. My lower boot is in ok condition but a new one might help. Even with all of its problems, I love my Z! Good luck!

Thanks Guys for the replies. To answer your questions, In the morning or after sitting for quite a while, 2 hours or more, it will start right up and run beautifully. I have done a complete tune-up including new coil, plugs, original nissan wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, filter, injectors, ignition switch. I checked the wire you suggested, sjcurtis, and it is already ran over and secured. I have not changed the fuel pump relay or the fuel injection relay or the AFM and I am planning to do that soon. I have the cd-rom version of the factory service manual and I agree it is invaluable. I have run the tests it gives for ignition and nothing is wrong according to the results. My Z is my daily driver so I want it to be dependable. Not that is isnt but I am afraid it will get to the point where it will refuse to start back up. Anyway, Thanks for all the suggestions! ROOPZ

My Z has developed a few small rust bubbles under the gas door. I thought I had the rust treated before I painted the car but alas I did not. I had hoped to avoid cutting any metal out. My question is...Does anyone make repair panels for this area other than a whole quarter panel? Is the quality any good? Not that I have much choice! Also, the panel under the hatch....yea that area...does the entire rear panel need to be replaced or is there a repair for just the area that rusts? ( the flat area across the width of the car vs. the entire tail light panel) Thanks! ROOPZ

Hello Everyone! I am wondering if there is anything I can do to stop my car from vapor locking. I believe that is what is happening. It runs sweet most of the time. Sometimes it will die while going down the road but that is a different story. What is embarrassing me is the re-starting after sitting a few minutes. I go to a store or whatever, go inside for a few minutes 3-10 minutes, come outside, get in, and start her up. Usually she doesnt protest starting UNLESS you let it die, then you are screwed for a few more miinutes. If it starts, it runs R-O-U-G-H at idle and doesnt take the throttle very well. You have to baby it some. It takes about 2-3 minutes atleast for this to subside and then it will run fine. It is a 78 280Z with all stock engine. I cant possibly be the only one who has experienced this. Also, has anyone experienced the car just dying abruptly while driving down the road and then kick back on a few seconds later? I cannot for the life of me find a reason for this other than the car doesnt like me! Any advice is greatly appreciated. ROOPZ

Anything is possible...as long as you have the money. If a v8 will go in there then I am sure the v6 could as well. You need to check out www.hybridz.org You will most likely find what you are looking for there. ROOPZ
