  1. Thanks, thats exactly the info I needed. Best, H Houghton
  2. I had my car aligned today and the good news is that it is straight and the uni-body is straight. The rack and inner and outer rod ends are all sound. The problem is that the small universal joint at the rack is worn and is causing a bit of a dead spot. This is not the one with the urathane bushing but the small steal one further down. My question being, is this sold seperatly or does it only come with a new rack. If it is sold seperatly what is it called and where do I find one?? Best, H Houghton
  3. I used some dyna-mat type stuff in my wifes Karman Ghia but the price was offensive, So in my Z I used three layers of Peel N Seal metal faced roofing matreal because it is locally available and less than half the price of other dampners but basicly the same thing, and then a layer of Luxury Liner from Second Skin Audio on the fire wall and transmission tunnel. The sound difference is amazing. After just doing the inside of the driver side door the road noise was cut by about 30%. All I need to do now is put Luxury Liner on the floor and rear deck and I'm done. Best, H Houghton
  4. I've been using Lucas 85 weight gear oil in my '71 it works great. I use Castrol syntec in my wifes Karman Ghia and it does make it run 10 to 15 degrees cooler and thats in an air cooled engine. MTC

Does anyone have any info or experience with these door seals? They're listed at $19.95. I found threads on every concievable seal but these. Best, H Houghton
  7. I believe they are two heavy insulated spade connectors until 1/71 when they changed to a single plastic connector. Best, H Houghton
  8. After months of inoperative tach after ZX distributor conversion and tons of thread reading I came across this thread that either I missed or was to lazy to read all the way through. ESCANLONS lucid wiring description solved my problem in about 2 minutes literally and that includes opening and closing the hood. I feel like Dr. Frankenstein when the lightening bolts at the lab worked and he is yelling.'HE LIVES!!! HE LIVES!!!! My thanks to ESCANLON ,ARNE et al this is a great and helpful site. Hello suzook86, I have a map light from a '71. Its not in pristine condition and one of the wires has had the original connector replaced with a crimp on but it is serviceable. I got a nice one when I replaced my dash. I also have the original flat bezel without the hood if you are interested. Best, H Houghton PS I'm just up the hill from you in Santa Fe
  10. I just got a few small pieces from Black Dragon an inner shift boot and some smaller stuff, it was fine. But when I am going for something major I use MSA and have always been impressed. Best, H Houghton
  11. Not long ago The Wall Street Journal listed the early '71 Z's as a bonafide auto investment with value increasing. Just my 2cts Best, H Houghton
  12. I just installed a 1/71 harness in my car which has a build date of 9/70 and had no problems at all. The only differences were a different type connector for the rear de-fogger and an extra hot connection near the the fuse box that I taped off and two new wires at the light/wiper switch. I actually tried replacing this switch with a '71 switch which has the extra connectors only to find the headlights would not turn off at all. So I put the original '70 switch back in and taped off the extra leads coming from the harness and everything works perfectly. Gauges, lights everything. I am assuming that with the extra, heavier gauge leads to the light switch they were trying to compensate for the mess of passing all the voltage through the switch. Just my 2cents. Best of luck, H Houghton
  13. ooops! I shot off my mouth before I loaded my brain. I just checked my wiring and the wires in the "T" connector are a heavy green and a black with a white stripe, the black/white is ignition hot. Anyone know what that connector is for? Also I had a clear look at the antenna switch wires. Mine come from a square three wire connector that treminates at the switch in insulated bullet connectors with a blue/ a blue with white stripe /and a blue with a red stripe. The blue is ignition hot. Since it is a manual switch I assume the hot is constant power and the other two are up and down (forward, reverse, whatever) on the antenna motor. Best, H Houghton
  14. "The BLUE wire is the 12v + for the STOCK Radio. It grounds via a Black wire / through the Chassis Mount" Are these the two in the "T" connector? Mine is a '71. Best, H Houghton

My hither-to-for pristine dash has developed a tiny crack on the very front edge in the center, Does anyone know of a product or a method that will repair it and prevent it from growing any larger? Thanks in advance, H Houghton
  16. That looks exactly like mine so I guess its the tire size, I will have to check, but I think the rim is right. Thanks Arne. Best H Houghton
  17. Could anyone either post a picture or direct me to a link that shows the proper spare tire hold down for a series I z? The one I have I got on e-bay and is not right, either the hold down piece is wrong or the 'T' screw is the wrong size. I cant get it to fit so that the top of the screw is below the deck so the fiber board wont sit down. Any help appreciated. Best, H Houghton

So to manually set as close as I can to the 15-20 degree mark I should disconnect the vac line and set it, but what is the best RPM to maintain while I do that? Best, H Houghton

Thank you gentlemen, I will check it on the highway and perhaps play with it some more. Took it to town today and could not believe how much better it accelerates. Also it has never started so easily, one crank and away it went. Best, H Houghton

Hello, I just installed a 280ZX distributor with an E12-80 module in my '71 and was wondering what the best timing advance is for it. I have it set about 17 DTDC and it seems OK, But I know nothing of this unit. Thanks , H Houghton PS Still cant get the tach to work.
  23. How about these guys/ I'm thinking of using them on my '71 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8054595509&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT Best, H Houghton
  24. As I was looking at the Black Dragon Catalog it shows another smaller inner boot. Does this fit over the shifter ball itself, directly on the transmission? Best, H Houghton
  25. That looks like exactly the thing. May I ask where you found it? Best, H Houghton
