I am gutting the interior of my early '71 and find the transmission tunnel has a very small hole for the stick and no provision for a hold down ring for the inner shift boot. I have no idea whether or not the boot that was in there is even out of a Z, I suspect not. My question is: What does an early boot look like and how is it held down? Glue down or does it rim in the hole itself like a fire wall grommet? Any help appreciated. Best Regards, H Houghton

  12. I live in New Mexico and cannot seem to find a decent body/paint shop.I would like to avoid bondo and use body solder but the only one I found quoted me 15-20 THOUSAND! with me stripping the car. It is a '71 with very little to do on it body wise. My question is does anyone know of a good shop either in New Mexico or Arizona? I would even be willing to trailer it to Texas. Any help is greatly appreciated. Best, H Houghton

  19. Hello again, I have connected this thing in every possible combination and still nothing. The tach itself seems to be fine because when I connect it as stock without the bypass jumper on the resistor it works fine, but the instructions say that the xr3000 unit demands full power. When connected stock it appears that the tach is receiving both a continuous 12 volt feed from the ignition and an attenuated signal through the resistor and with the new connection it recieves full voltage both ways. Would a dedicated 12 volt connection for the tach alone while leaving the signal side connected to the resistor address the problem? I dont know how clearly Im commincating this. Please give me your thoughts. Best, H Houghton
  20. Hello, I also installed an xr3000 in my '71 everything works fine except my tach. When I connect it to the negative post of the coil as per the instructions it kills the engine. I can connect it as it was through the resistor and the tach works but the instructions say not to connect that way. I have called Crane support about a dozen times and every tech I have spoken to is clue-less. Any suggestions you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Best, H Houghton

I recently did my wifes Karman Ghia with a double layer of fat mat(originally slated for my '71 Z) and used two rolls, works fine. BUT, I have since found that a roofing material called Peel-N Seal is exactky the same as Fat Mat type dampners and is sold by the manufacturers to some sound companies. I am going to use this on my Z. You can find it at building supply stores like Home Depot or ask for a distibutor near you at their web site, it costs about half as much as fatmat. Just make sure you dont get some other product that doesnt have the metal skin, some companys put out a window sealer with a shiny plastic skin that wont work. Best, H Houghton
