East Coast Z Nationals: May 18–20, 2012 at the Carlisle Import & Kit Nationals (Show & Awards are Saturday). Carlisle Fairgrounds 1000 Bryn Mawr Road Carlisle, PA 17013 The time has come and the weather is great to dust off some the greatest nissan/datsun cars around. This years show is the weekend of May 18-20 at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. The pre registration deadline for Carlisle is April 16, 2012. The cost increases from $20 to $30 after that. As in previous years we will be holding the East Coast Z Nationals show on Saturday the 19 with trophies and prizes for an additional $10. I would ask that everyone that registors uses the East Coast Z Nationals for their club afilliation to help use get a tent. When you registor online there is a drop down box after your car information. We had a great turn out last year and would like to see everyone again. I tried to secure a hotel this year, but due to the demand on the area for the weekend I was unable to. I will how ever be looking to set one up the weekend of the show, so if you would want to have a room please let me know so I know how many to block off next year. The First NJ Z Car Club meeting of 2012 will be April 15th, Noon @ The Green Knoll Grille, 645 Rt 202/206, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. This will be a great kick off to the year, and a chance to reconnect after coming out of hibernation! All area enthusiasts are invited - great chance to see what we are all about! It sounds like the carbs are running lean (because of misadjustment or a vacuum leak), or that the engine is not sufficiently warm to run with no choke. NJ Area Z Entusiasts: The NJ Z Car Club 13th Annual Z Car Show is a little over a week away! Last year we all showcased a record number of our Z cars, and are looking forward to fantastic show again this year! Date: Saturday, September 17th (rain date Sunday, September 18th) Time: 9AM - 2:30PM (Judging closes at 12:30PM) Location: The Hilton Gardens Inn, Bridgewater NJ 500 Promenade Boulevard (by Home Depot) Bridgewater, New Jersey, 08807 Register: At the show -- $15 car entrance fee ($10 for members, so a great time to join, if not already a member). Save some time, fill out your registration form in advance, and bring it to the show. I think it the issue is inside the trans since reverse works. I'd assume 4th gear works as well (although you will need to slip the clutch a bit to check). If so, it sounds like the bearings may be shot in the transmission. Typically as they are going bad, you will hear gear whine. After they are toast (the hardened metal cages that space the balls apart break apart) all the balls can go toward one side, allowing the gear shafts to separate enough for the teeth to slip. Since first and second are affected, I'd guess the rear countershaft (and perhaps rear main) bearing. You need to unbolt the case and remove the rear extension housing to check. If it turns out to be the issue, check all of the bearings for play by hand, and look at the metal cages for signs of breaking apart. You can get part numbers off of the bearings (stamped into the sides of the bearing races) and get replacements from bearing supply houses (check phone book or google in your area). Most are fairly common bearings. Good luck...
