A little confused on the brake swap
ive been to several sites regaurding the toyota brake upgrade. read several posts in here as well. what i am confused with is which calipers to use. one says 79-84 toyo 4 wd calipers, 6 cylinder. another says 84-89 toyo 4 runner calipers 6 cylinder. also there is the thing with the 84 300ZX rotors which i would like to have. now how or where would i get this spacer. could any machine shop make this or?? thanks for any help james

Valve adjustment
i was wondering i was reading about valve adjustment on www.Zhome.com they stated a cold adjustment of .008 intake and .010 exhaust cold then hot .010 and .012 hot respectively. they dont go into much detail. are they talking about the distance between the lash pad and the cam. if so is there any special way the cam should be set etc. can anyone give me more information. thanks james

Help Which z to buy
rust is going to be your main issue with any of these cars. first and foremost that is what you want ot look for then go from there. the tirples are nice but again like 2many said they cost 1295 new. so what does that tell you. especially if thats his main selling point. look them all over carefully and decide from there

posi traction on 72' 240z?
but you can get lsd units for the rear or adapt a 87 trubo 300ZX rear for a good lsd rear end

Unleaded Z Options
you can get better from www.nismoparts.com and for the same price almost. all your doing is replacing the soft valve seats for something you would watn anyway, harder steel seats. and why not use the best. i dont like vb at all. they know nothing of Z's and if you dont have a catalogue forget it they will not look anything up. just go to that site and be much happier

Having fun with the new Z1

Having fun with the new Z1
for the past week now i have been pulling and tearing at my new Z. so far ive had both fenders off. cleaned up some surface rust off to bare metal primed and painted the areas. replaced all four struts and springs. replaced all four brake hoses. i think the springs were original . replaced front sway bar links and bushings, replaced the rear sway bar bushings and links to. started today working on the floor boards. just the same thing there a lil surface rust. took off all the wheels sanded the hell outta them and polished them tonight. shes starting to look preety good. except for some small paint bubble spots i had found on the outside of the body which are now covered with primer. i still cant get over how clean the car is. i love it and am very happpy with it. when i get it all done ill take some pics to show you how its going along. sometime this week ill be pulling the engine and transmission to replace it with the engine and tranny from my other Z. think ill really get into the engine bay clean up then and paint it while the egine is out of the car. i want it all nice and polished up for its new home. ill keep you posted god this is really fun work but boy am i tired Z you all later

Bumpy ride
i talked to www.shox.com about gettting a set of either tockikos or konis for my 71. well guess what koni doesnt manufacture for the early Z's anymore.

im new so this may be stupid...
a lot of people want to try and some do it. but realistically you wouldnt want to. you would spend way to much time and to much money for doing what you could already have. not to mention you couldnt run that much boost either. the best way is to get yourself a L28et and do it the right way the first time.

stock 280zx turbo engine
depends on the year and weight of your Z. the stock 70 71 240's ran 1/4 times of 15.7 secs if im remembering correctly. this was on a 130 roughly hp engine. no put in a turbo engine and that coupled with the fact it probably has about a realistic hp of 165 you can go from there. no to mention you can always go further.

240z weight
though i havent weighed my 71 yet. but my 72 240 which had the 2.4 block E 88 head, no bumbers front or rear, 5 speed tranny, fiber glass aero kit, with full interior and 215 60 14 tires, weighed 2300 on the scale even, tank was about 5 gallons. thats just the car. no driver. im going to take my 71 hopefully down tommorow and see what it wieghs in full stock trim. what i think really made the difference was thicker metal and more sound deadening for the 72 and above.

webers
i know su's are great and with the way you have your su's set up you will be fine with your application. if you ran 40 mm webers or dell ortos you would be better though. i dont know where people get a tuning night mare out of webers or the like. unless your climate is forver changing or you plan to driving it in the winter once you set them you should be good to go. bench setting the carbs is the best to do then dialing them in once on the car. it is a bit of a pain, but once there perfectly diailed and and balanced you will have a smoothe powerful machine that you will love when it takes off, especially when you fell the torque pull, and you hear all 6 barrels of those carbs open up you will never ever hear anything like it. will you car perform better with the triples, yes it will, better then the su's, its an upgrade that if you take the time is well worth it. people like to shy away from triples saying there hard to tune and such because there either to used to the su's or just like how simple they are. i like my su's i think they are nice, but if you have a cammed engine that is bored and built to run you just can go wrong with a good set of triples.

im back
just trying to clean it up a little. you will love the air cleaner attachments we made. they really do look decent. a new way to fit k & n filter elements for webers on to su's hehe.

im back
what a trip omg i didnt know how long 2447  miles was till i drove it  but it was fun. the car ran great and it has actually well now only 88K miles:p the car looks fantastic from a unibody view almost perfect. the only rust i could find was a lil surface at the batter tray. but the rest of the car looks great. the recaros look really well in the car. interior is nice. uncracked center console:eek: but the dash has a cap on it god i hate the half dash caps:sick: it has the shelby style wheels wich i will be polishing to a great shine:D it has a bosal muffler that sounds sick on it though cant wait to take it off. has a short shifter. pretty much stock but drove well with no probs. it actually was getting 25 to the gallon at 80 mph:) cant wait to drop my engine in and put the triples on. then build the original up . well when i get a lil time ill post some pics so i can show you all how it looks. laters james

need help with tranny swap
there is a spot that should already be there you just have to cut it out for the clutch master cylinder. you will also need your 4 or 5 speed, your steeling line, sensors and speedo cable, clutch flywheel and so on, and pedal set for the clutch. do know but i would be sure the mounts are different. that about all i can think of now its early
