Need advise for a 280ZX
Depending on the type of rebuild, Id say the motor is worth about 500-850 american. Seeing though that you could have a serious rust problem on your hands, being that there is rust below the windscreen, no telling how deep it runs. It is also not currently road worth which to me if it is something as simple as a mirror why hasnt it been replaced. Id look the car over very carefully and check for rust and see how well it actually does run. If you have a compression kit, do a compression test as well to see how good the engine is.

Ticking noise
Is tightening down the manifold bolts at either end to see if it helps, you may also want to try while the engine is cold some soapy water or something that will bubble if you think its the manifold. It should be evident with something like that right away .

SplitFire 3 Spark Plugs
Remember this, I dont care if it has 4 points to hit or 40 or one, the spark is only going to go to one of these points at any given time.

Compression Test
Is to also adjust your valves while your doing everything else. That way your sure to know that everything is in correct tune.

240 motor in a 280?
If your not liking the FI to much you could always easily retrofit a set of su's on your motor without a problem. In any event like I said definetly go with the flat top pistons.

240 motor in a 280?
You would be taking a lower powered engine and putting it into a bigger car. IE swapping a 2.8 for a 2.4. It would be best to rebuild your current engine with flat tops.

what about the new z's?
Is the 350Z a nice car? Yes. ( I agree ) Is the 350Z a replacement for the 240Z? No ( I agree ) Early Z's won thier credience on dirt tracks racing in rallys. Would anyone want to take a 350Z rallying? I dont think so. ( I agree you woldnt take a 350Z to the rally ) But you forget how much the Z won its respect on the track of the SCCA circuit as well winning and winning and winning again. It was a formidable car that suprised the $^!# out of others and well, for that matter still today holds its own. Will that be seen with the 350Z we shall see. Is the 350Z the evolution of the 240Z? Yes. ( I totally disagree ) If you look at all the Z models and even the ZX models ie S30 bodystyle to S130, to the Z31 and even the Z32 with each one all side by side you can see how each car evolved into the next one. The Z to the ZX, just a little smoother and longer, The ZX to the Z31 style ZX, same length, it had gotten a little smoother but still bold lines and what seemed to be a wider body, but you could still see cues from its predicessor as you could in the Z32. Now go and put any of these cars agains the 350Z. Besides the rear quarter windows, I see no resemblence to what the Z was at all. Nothing reminds you of the car it has replaced, its its own car and is to me very different. To me its just another COOKIE CUTTER CAR with the Z name on it. It just doesnt stand out on its own like the others from the past have, its joined the same looks as the audi tt and the like. Keep it I wouldnt want one.

They have a photo of this arse, they can find out who he is, if hes stolen the car right out of a parking lot then Im sure hes done this more then once and has been caught. They have a car to identify him with as well. One thing I dont understand is how the hell did or why did they just let him go? Thats ****ed, they could have had the robber and car thief and attempted larcen right there. Been heros . I guess that 6.25 an hour isnt enough. Hope they give you something soon.

83 280ZX engine
The P90 head has the solid (adjustable)lifters, not the hydraulic lifters. No worries. If you do have the P90a head, yes you will do well with that head, just from experience and from what other high HP Turbo guys at least all run the solid lifter heads. I plan on switching myself as we all know that oil will compress easier.

We have among our datsun kind one person using dual su's on his lil 71 240Z and his 1/4 mile time is faster then mine in a turbo. 12.8 compared to 13.5 you tell me why you would want a 4 barrel?

I guess its accurate, I plugged in my MPH on the 1/4 and my times on the 1/4 as well. One says almost 300 at the flywheel, I doubt it, the other says about 275 at the flywheel. Well heres the link check it out. http://www.cprparts.com/HPcalculator.html

well everything turned out great, it wasnt as bad as it was thought to be and there was still a very bad blood infection. Good news of it was all it took was a day in the hospital under intravenous antibiotics and a weeks treatment by mouth. Thanks for all of your concern everyone

what about the new z's?
Cant get over the cookie cutter looks of the car, hell the muran looks like it like the G35 and well the audi tt and so on and so on and so on. Unlike the other Z gens it doesnt stand out or have its own look to it. The Z32 really changed things and was very aggressive looking and was a really nice ride, though it was priced out of its market and soon failed. For what it is it isnt a bad car though I would never own one. Besides that my 21 yo car can beat it hehe.

Do you know this car?
It was a 74 260Z with a V-8 conversion, I had the MSA Fibergalss II aero kit on it as well. The color of mine was dodge viper blue with artic white racing stripes.
